5. Remove clamp that attaches exhaust pipe (13, Figure 53) to exhaust pipe (1, Figure 53). 6. Remove flange cover and three flange bolts that secures exhaust pipe to counterweight and remove exhaust pipe. 7. Remove counterweight. See section Counterweight Replacement for removal procedures for counterweight. 8. Remove clamps that attach exhaust pipes (1 and 4, Figure 53) to muffler. 9. Remove exhaust pipe (4, Figure 53) from engine exhaust manifold and remove exhaust pipe from muffler. Discard gasket. 10. Remove washers, isolators, spacers, locknuts, and capscrews that attach muffler to lift truck frame. Remove muffler from lift truck frame.

Inspect

WARNING Exhaust system components are hot to touch. Be sure exhaust system components are cool before starting disassembly, or personal injury may occur.

Inspect following items in exhaust system: •

Inspect all exhaust pipes for damage, corrosion, and rust. Replace as needed.

If equipped, inspect all exhaust wraps for wear, proper fit, contamination with oil or antifreeze, gaps in coverage, failed fasteners and replace as needed. If replacing an exhaust pipe section that has a wrap, also replace wrap. DO NOT reuse wraps if they have been removed for a service operation.

Inspect muffler for damage, corrosion, and rust. Replace as needed.

NOTE: Lift trucks equipped with standard exhaust follow Step 1 through Step 4. Lift trucks equipped with overhead exhaust follow Step 5 through Step 10. 1. Remove counterweight before removing muffler and other components of exhaust system. See section Counterweight Replacement for removal procedures for counterweight. 2. Remove clamps that attach exhaust pipes (1 and 4, Figure 53) to muffler. Remove exhaust pipe (1, Figure 53) from muffler. 3. Remove exhaust pipe (4, Figure 53) from engine exhaust manifold and remove exhaust pipe from muffler. Discard gasket. 4. Remove washers, isolators, spacers, locknuts, and capscrews that attach muffler to lift truck frame. Remove muffler from lift truck frame. NOTE: The exhaust pipe (13, Figure 53) must be removed before removing counterweight and other components of exhaust system.

Install NOTE: Lift trucks equipped with standard exhaust follow Step 1 through Step 4. Lift trucks equipped with overhead exhaust follow Step 5 through Step 10. 1. Place muffler on lift truck frame and install washers, isolators, spacers, locknuts, and capscrews to attach muffler to lift truck frame. Tighten locknuts to 22 N•m (195 lbf in). 2. Connect exhaust pipes (1 and 4, Figure 53) to muffler and install clamps to attach exhaust pipes to muffler.
