Graphic Design ~ Magazine Cover Reflection By Kako Mori
For my graphic design work for a magazine cover, I chose the TIME magazine. The reason why I chose the Time magazine is because I have read the time magazine a few times and found it a very interesting article. Firstly I made the red border on the outside edges of the page.
I used a tool in photoshop called the line tool. And changed the color to red. Next I thought about ideas for the topic I chose which was ‘The Economic Crash’. The only thing that came up to my mind, was crash when I figure ice skater crashes from a jump. This is because I ice skate every single day and crash onto the ice a lot during practice. I tried a few times to render a skater crashing with paper money. But this did not turn out well, so I decided to go with the idea of skates crashing the ice. In the background I placed American dollar bills half way. I wanted the bills to be replaced for the ice in the skate rink. For the crack I used a real ice crack image, and I trimmed the ice part, so there is only the crack left. Then I put the crack on top of the money. The skate shoes were then placed on top of the crack, and I erased the toe of the blade so that it would look like it is stuck inside the ice.
I used the smudging tool to show the movement of the skate shoes. This would make it look like the skate shoes were moving before it stuck into the ice.
But I wanted more movement so I added the skater falling in the background, on top of the TIME letters. I also extended the money background, since without it extended, it would look too empty.
Then I added other words about the economic crisis, in different places to balance it all out.
Finally I added some information and images for other topics that are going to be explained later in my TIME magazine. I did this after I saw some examples on Google images. I made the opacity 61% for the paper bills so that the skates and the crack would stand out more. Also the TIME letters is opacity 76%, since the balance looked better with it having transparency.
This is the final piece.
