Company Profile: • One of the largest mining operations in Australia, Mount Isa Mines (MIM) operates the Mount Isa copper, lead, zinc and silver mines located in Queensland as part of the Glencore group of companies. Safety Advisor - MICO Mining (Sep 2014 - Current) Key Duties: • Undertake work as a Safety Advisor involved in overseeing all safety, health and environmental matters onsite. • Facilitate incident investigations and procedural audits, ensuring compliance to all environmental standards. • Perform workplace observations and safety audits, promoting a preventative approach. • Assist supervisors and superintendents to complete hazard alerts and injury summaries. • Liaise closely with the client in regard to all operations, including general and HSE activities. • Assist with undertaking hygiene sampling throughout the underground copper operations. • Conduct risk assessments with various work groups and facilitate workforce safety training. • Assist all personnel/work groups obtain required safety PPE, ensuring they are fully versed in the use. • Encourage a team-oriented approach, promoting the importance of a positive and proactive safety culture. • Develop, implement and monitor site-wide safety initiatives and undertake analysis of safety statistics. • Assist training department review procedures and training documents and make recommendations for improvements. • Safeguard development of the site safety processes, through close monitoring of work processes. • Develop applications for safety and training programs, and prepare programs for risk awareness. • Mentor trainees in all areas of HSE requirements, including hands-on training. Workplace Trainer & Assessor/2IC - Fill & Construction (Dec 2008 - Sep 2014) Key Duties: • Contributed primarily as a Workplace Trainer & Assessor, involved in all aspects of safety • Performed higher duties (2IC supervisory) as required, overseeing operations and scheduling of a team of 12 • Consulted with appropriate internal and external resources to assist in day-to-day operations and planning. • Initiated, performed and documented jobsite inspections and audits with a focus on hazard recognition. • Counselled staff on Personal Risk Assessments and assisted in Incident investigations • Perform shift hand over to opposing crew, ensuring correct procedures were followed at all times. • Ensured high levels of construction quality, maintaining full adherence to all deadlines and specifications. • Built bulkheads for fill, ventilation and firing, stop logs for ore passes, hang and repair services and pipe work. • Completed the installation of ventilation fans and vent bags throughout the underground mine • Operated hand held mining equipment and various underground mobile machinery, including German service vehicles, Normet service vehicles, MacLean scissor lift, Komatsu front end loader/I.T, Dieci Telehandler, CAT and Eimco LHDU/Mucker.
