For Safe surfing and downloading 1- Assess what you're downloading. Are you downloading a file that or are you downloading image? There's a much greater chance that the image is going to have a virus hidden in the download than the file download. What's the file? That's your first clue. 2- Look over the site. It may seem superficial, but if you're downloading a file from a very basic site there's a higher chance that the site will have a virus hidden in its downloadable files than from a site that looks like it's been made from years of dedicated web designers 3- Consider who you are downloading the file from. Think about it logically, if you're downloading something from Windows, say, it's not likely that you're downloading a virus. What's the context? That's the key 4- Are there other people that have downloaded the file? If there's a forum attached to the site that has people saying they've downloaded said file and have not experienced any problems, chances are, you aren't going to be downloading a Trojan or worm 5- Look at the size of the file. If it's too small for what it is, it's junk 6- Watch out for executable files, such as '.exe', '.bat', '.pif', and '.scr'. If you download one of these you are, potentially, opening yourself up to anything on that file once you activate it. Try scanning it with a virus checker or any other software that is like it - just to be on the safe side. One common trick used by crackers is to have a 'double extension' such as '.gif.exe'. Said file is actually an .exe, not a .gif 7- Try to get yourself a good anti-virus program on your computer. Norton, AVG and Avast! are all trusted sites with very effective programs that help clean up and/or protect your computer from the viruses that float around the internet. Even if you just get the free version, it's worth having a defense against a multitude of threats

How to Organize Your E-Books: Instructions: Step 1 :Put all your e-books into one folder on your desktop if you haven’t done this already. Step 2 Once you have all your e-books in one master folder on your desktop, look at the types of e-books that you have. Create a new folder on your desktop for each category of e-book. For example, you might have one folder for romance fiction, another might be for mysteries and still another might be for marketing e-books. Step 3 : Set up a database spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. Step 4 Enter all your e-books into the database spreadsheet. Step 5 Save the folders you’ve created on your desktop to their own CDs, meaning one per CD when possible. This will help to clear space on your hard drive, and also since you have categorized all your e-books and entered them into your database spreadsheet, you will have a clear idea of exactly what you have. OR (2) Organize Your E-books with This Free Program. My EbookLib Organizer is a freeware program designed to help you organize your e-book collection. Whether your collection is made up of paid e-books, or the free e-books so many of us are fond of, My E-book Library will help you get them in order. One feature I really like is the ability to rate the e-books. If there comes a time when you want to prune your e-book collection, the ratings make things easier. If you have two e-books on the same subject, and one only has 2 stars, while the other has 4 stars, you pretty much know which one to get rid of.
