THAR The Thar has always been a functional 4X4 built for real off-roading. Its ability to negotiate rough terrain is genuine, and the inclusion of the locking rear differential makes it that bit more capable. There isn’t much by way of creature comforts so it’s not an ideal choice as an everyday vehicle. It’s also expensive for what you get. CRDE 4X4 TUV300

TUV300 If you want the Scorpio’s tough, rugged appeal in a smaller, more affordable package, this is the way to go. While it’s not perfect and the looks will divide opinion, the TUV300 is one of Mahindra’s better efforts. The 100hp version is the one to go for; the 85hp’s performance is inadequate for highway use. VERITO Space, practicality and economy. The Verito provides a great mix of these three in addition to which the engine is surprisingly nice in town and the ride quality is really good too. VERITO VIBE Chop the boot off a Verito and you’ll get the Vibe. The boot is quite big but it’s got a tiny opening that doesn’t allow you to use its potential fully. XYLO The Xylo is really spacious, can seat up to eight and has a choice of diesel engines. It is easy to drive and, typical of a Mahindra, offers quite a lot of equipment for not too much money.
