No food substance can come even remotely close to a sweeter taste like honey, hence the phrase 'as sweet as honey'. Bees produce honey to feed on and feed their young ones. Luckily, a lot of extra honey is produced and therefore is harvested and brought to our stores. I imagine the first person to discover this sweet tasting substance; he must have been thrilled and ran off to spread the word. I wonder if he had an encounter with the stingers. You would be forgiven if you thought honey flows from your local Wal-Mart stores. It is actually a very involving and even dangerous activity that is beekeeping. The beekeeper honey is the reward for any beekeeper whether it is for personal or commercial purposes. Speaking of commerce, beekeeping can easily turn into a cash mint because of the huge demand and varied uses of honey. And that's not all about beekeeping, it is estimated that about a third of the food we consume is usually as a result of pollination by bees. It is certainly good news that more and more beekeepers are coming up. Reports and research projects have recently appeared all over the media about the immense benefits and uses of honey, far greater than we would have imagined. The health sector has particularly been a focus area whereby honey has been found to help cure a lot of ailments and correct a few problems with the body here and there. Some of them might seem a bit farfetched or ridiculous but have actually been proven scientifically. For instance, honey is now used as a skin moisturizer. When mixed with some eggs and flour, you have yourself a hand and body lotion that reportedly deals squarely with the effects of dry skin. Honey is now also used heal and remove pimples (acne) on your face. There are also recent reports that conclude that honey offers protection from heart disease and cancer through its antioxidants which hinder formation of cancerous cells in the body. It has also recently been found to accelerate healing of ulcers which are primarily treated through modern techniques. Other uses include the unmatched sweetening taste which goes with just about any food, working as energy booster whereby a simple solution of honey and water becomes an energy drink, antiseptic qualities, improvement of blood flow, and helping to kick out any parasitic organisms like worms that may exist in our bodies. One of the uses that have particularly worked for me and my family members is its ability to cure sore throats, coughs and colds. I have long since replaced my cough syrups and throat lozenges in favor of this sweet tasting drug. My son would head for the woods at the thought of medicines in the form of tablets and dizzying cough syrups. But now, that story has changed; he goes to lengths of feigning such ailments for an occasional scoop.
