A Snapshot of BREC

ABOUT BREC PRESENTS Each year, we work tirelessly behind the scenes to source a range of shows from theatre companies across Australia. This ensures that audiences have the opportunity to see a variety of programming that they may not otherwise have the chance to see on a local stage. These shows, labelled throughout this brochure and on our website as BREC Presents, have been hand-picked specifically for you, our loyal audience. As a not-for-profit organisation, your purchase of tickets to BREC Presents shows helps us to be able to continue offering this diverse range of programming now and into the future. In the past, we have offered the opportunity for patrons to purchase 'Series' of shows. This year, however, we are doing things a little differently. Rather than purchasing packages of shows in the same genre, we are now inviting you to purchase a 'Subscription' made up of any of the fantastic shows in our BREC Presents 2016 program. This brochure outlines the amazing range of shows you can choose from - and with classical music, contemporary dance, family shows, drama, comedy, film and more, there really is something to suit every taste! When you purchase a Subscription, you are able to access some fantastic discounts. Simply purchase tickets to 3 or 4 shows to receive a 10% discount off the total price, or 5 or more shows to receive a 15% discount - how great is that? We are also introducing our Out of the Box Presents concept to this year's program of events. Any show with an Out of the Box logo will feature added extras on the night, such as Sundowners, live music, games and more. You'll find more details about what's happening on each show page. So make yourself a cuppa, sit back and enjoy browsing our new BREC Presents 2016 brochure. We look forward to seeing you at the Centre in 2016!

THEY SAW A THYLACINE

BY HUMAN ANIMAL EXCHANGE | TOURED BY PERFORMING LINES On an unseasonably cold September day in 1936, the world’s last known Tasmanian Tiger died in captivity at Hobart's Beaumaris Zoo. Out of the darkness, Sarah Hamilton and Justine Campbell conjure the ghost of one of our lost beauties – the thylacine. With the suspense and warmth of a campfire story, these feisty, funny women weave a lyrical tale of discovery and destruction.

Tuesday 22 March, 7.30pm Venue: The Cube theatre Duration: 60 mins no interval Adult $39 | BREC Club $20 | Concession $37 Group 8+ $35 | Child $25 | School $20 Tickets include entry into a pre-show Sundowner, with a complimentary drink, nibbles and music.

For this thylacine tracker and zoo keeper’s daughter, it’s a quest to protect a threatened creature…and themselves. Gutsy, rebellious and fresh from a season at Melbourne's Malthouse Theatre, this beautiful reimagining of Australia’s lost history shines a light on extinction and our own survival.

“This gem of a show thoroughly deserves its elevation from Fringe experiment to mainstage success.” Deborah Stone, ArtsHub Warning: contains coarse language

Tour produced by Performing Lines. They Saw A Thylacine is supported by Malthouse Theatre, the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria, and the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

Rafael Bonachela’s world premiere, Lux Tenebris, provides the perfect contrast: light and darkness emerging from a dusky sonic landscape by composer Nick Wales (longterm collaborator of Sarah Blasko). Movement follows deep, unexpected, visceral beats, and sharp, sudden twists to discover a dark place where there is space for beauty and light. Bonachela’s work, as always, is deeply emotional.

CounterMove will intrigue, move and entertain. Don’t miss out!

Never Did Me Any Harm PRODUCED BY FORCE MAJEURE & SYDNEY THEATRE COMPANY | DEVISED BY FORCE MAJEURE

Never before have parents been under such pressure when it comes to raising children. Is the pressure to get it right overwhelming us? And what is ‘good parenting’ anyway? Are children today given too much choice? Too few boundaries? Less chance to take risks? Drawing inspiration from real-life interviews, award-winning director and choreographer Kate Champion explores contemporary attitudes to raising children in this provocative dance theatre work. Using a distinctive language of dance, images and text, Force Majeure and Sydney Theatre Company create an emotional, humorous and

insightful work that cannot fail to resonate with all who were once children. Never Did Me Any Harm is a captivating work that has attracted rave reviews with its power, poignancy and distinctively Australian humour. Warning: contains minimal strong language.

PLAY YOUR PART AT BREC The Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre was built with the support of the South West community, who raised over a third of the initial construction costs. As a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity, BREC relies on the support of the community to enable us to continue our annual low-cost BREC Presents theatre program as well as our community events and shows. There are many ways you and your loved ones can play a part in the future of BREC and ensure that arts and culture continues to thrive in the South West.

Make a Donation Every donation above $2 that is made to BREC is tax deductible! Plus, you will be supporting projects such as our talented local youth who take part in our Black Box Youth Theatre program; community productions by local theatre groups; our diverse BREC Presents artistic program and our annual range of free community events.

Name a Seat Naming a seat in our Stage One or Cube theatres is the perfect way to create a personal, lasting legacy at BREC. Your name and message of up to 45 characters is engraved and affixed to one of our theatre seats, demonstrating your support of the Centre to many generations of future patrons. Your donation will make a real difference to ensuring the Centre is able to purchase essential equipment and the latest technology to improve the community’s experience at BREC.

Leave a Legacy Leaving a legacy for BREC helps to strengthen the future of arts and culture in Bunbury and the South West. A bequest leaves a lasting memory in your honour, and creates a meaningful bond between you and the Centre. You will be acknowledged now for your future generosity. To all past, current and future donors to the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, we thank you for your generous contributions!
