NEWS OF THE WORLD LEADER IN ESSENTIAL OILS

THE

ESSENTIAL EDGE Volume 4.2 February 2014

Founder’s Message The concept of abundance has always intrigued me: it’s the idea of having enough love, compassion, time, and resources to be able to be the person you are hoping to become. Do you have enough love to give to those you love? Do you have enough compassion toward those who are in need? Do you have enough freedom of time to do what you really want to do? Do you have enough resources to accomplish your goals and to bless others? If I were to ask these questions to each Young Living member, the answers would vary in content and confidence. However, what I do know is that Young Living can lead you to an abundant life. In the network marketing industry—and specifically with Young Living—there is no identifiable limit to what you can earn, and I’m not just talking about money. It is the law of attraction; and in an industry that is dependent on relationships, you will attract what you desire, seek after, and commit to being. Your attitude is everything, and you have to believe that whatever it is you’re pursuing, you will make it happen. It will take time but the rewards will come. Be committed to the process. Know and believe in your “whys”—and make them bigger than money. Money will not motivate you during the journey that will inevitably be paved through canyons, thick fog, and difficult terrain. But when you look back on the journey from the realisation of your accomplishment, you will have become the person you once dreamed of becoming. Believe in yourself. Believe you can make a difference. Believe in Young Living!

Young Living: Obsessed With Quality By Jared Turner, Chief Global Sales Officer

Gary Young is absolutely obsessed with quality. I’ve witnessed his unwavering commitment countless times—most recently in Highland Flats, Idaho, at our newest distillery. Young Living invests millions of dollars in farms, distilleries, labs, chemists, etc., all to protect the integrity of our oils and the trust you have invested in us. This investment is not a decision most companies make because it directly impacts their profitability. At Young Living, we will take much less in our bottom line as a company so that you can have much more certitude in quality

as members. The current management team is completely aligned with Gary, and we will never waiver in terms of meeting his highest standards of quality. I welcome each of you to be bold in sharing this message. Ask to meet other companies’ analytical chemists; ask to visit their farms, labs, and distilleries; ask if their company owners are absolutely obsessed with quality and if they make it their mission in life. Gary’s passion is inspiring and contagious. We have your back. Gary has your back. Be bold and let the oils speak for themselves. *Article from a Facebook post from Idaho after Jared participated in the Winter Harvest.

A Dream Achieved In January, Young Living’s newest distillery became operational at the Highland Flats tree farm, and a different Winter Harvest experience was ushered in. But there was more— something spectacular: a realisation of a dream that founder D. Gary Young has had for many years. This new oil-extracting facility is in fact state-of-the-art—the world’s first automated distillery. Everyone who comes to experience the Seed to Seal process will stand in amazement while working in the most advanced distillery in the world. The truck bay in the new distillery building is 85 feet long and 52 feet wide. It is fully insulated with heated floors—not to warm frozen toes but to melt snow and ice in the chips for a more manageable distillation. For the first time, the semitrucks can drive inside a heated building, where the chips can be unloaded and then packed into the two 21,000liter extraction chambers. For those who have experienced a previous Winter Harvest, they will be amazed and thrilled to unload without heavy coats and hats to protect them from the miserable cold, blowing snow, and cutting wind. These huge chambers can produce anywhere from 17–23 litres of oil per cook while using one-third of the fuel. The new distillery also completely eliminates Gary’s nightly drive in the semitruck over the treacherous winding roads and hairpin turns on snow and ice to the distillery at the farm in St. Maries, which could take anywhere from three to seven hours. Gary is safer; the distillation process is infinitely faster; and the essential oils have never been better. Indeed, the new distillery is a realisation of a dream come true.

A Spotlight to Brighten Hong Kong If Hong Kong residents didn’t know who Young Living’s founder was before this year, they certainly do now. From airport kiosks to newsstands, supermarkets, and convenience stores, D. Gary Young became a household name throughout the vibrant region in early January with a cover feature in the popular magazine LifeStyle Journal. Written by respected journalist Peter Wong, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, the wonderfully written and validating threepage spread titled “Gary Young: the man who is willing to bridge and communicate between nature and humankind” shines light on the direct-sales industry specific to essential oils, Gary’s history of pioneering essential oils in the United States, and Young Living’s role as the leader in producing and distributing the world’s best essential oils. The feature also includes a very insightful question and answer portion with Gary. The magazine cover features Gary and the headline: “Heavenly Created; Return to Nature with Oils: An Exclusive Story with Young Living Founder Gary Young.”

“I do not have retirement plans; there are a lot of plants I still need to discover.” D. Gary Young

Young Living’s Anti-ageing Secret By Luba Vozar, PhD

No longer is anti-ageing only about reducing fine lines. A complete, youthful, healthy skin profile begins with keeping your face hydrated to promote an even texture and tone. The signs of aging are influenced by a few different factors and should be thought of as a complex process. We recognise intrinsic or chronological aging as the passage of time that is influenced by our genetics. Extrinsic aging is accelerated by the amount of exposure to the sun, as well as by our personal habits. Hormonal or catabolic aging depends on hormonal changes and is easily recognised by the increase of facial sagging. An array of skin-damaging enemies surround each of us—that is why it is always beneficial to incorporate in your skin-care regimen a combination of Young Living essential oils and carrier oils, lotions, or creams. Essential oils affect the body, mind, and psyche and help activate the life of your skin. In addition to essential oils, Young Living also offers a wonderful variety of moisturising creams that can help promote beautiful, healthy skin. One of my favourites is Young Living’s Boswellia Wrinkle Cream because it moisturises and reduces the appearance of fine lines with youth-promoting ingredients.

Boswellia Wrinkle Cream contains MSM, which supports healthy collagen and an even skin tone. The added wolfberry seed oil supports hydration and helps soothe irritated or sensitive skin. Hyaluronic acid supports balanced moisture in the skin. Grape seed extract, calendula, aloe vera, and shea butter—in combination with Geranium, Ylang ylang, Myrrh, Frankincense, and Sandalwood essential oils—all play a key role in rejuvenating your skin.

Enhance the power of Boswellia Wrinkle Cream or any Young Living moisturiser by adding five drops of these essential oils: Clary Sage (to hydrate and regulate) & Neroli (to tone) OR Palmarosa (to regenerate) & Rose (to hydrate and tone)

Checkmate!

Chess. The intriguing mind-exhausting game of strategy enjoyed by men and women of all ages in parks and classrooms across the world has found a new home: the Young Living Lavender Farm in Mona, Utah. On January 18, 66 K-12 students and their families, friends, and teachers embarked on a day filled with brain stimulation, competition, and just plain fun during the Young Livingsponsored chess tournament. To no one’s surprise, Josef and Jacob Young finished in 1st and 3rd place in their respective age groups! Congratulations, Josef and Jacob! In all, almost 200 people came to the farm and enjoyed wagon rides, bounce houses, and distillery tours.

Gary Young: A Somalian Adventure

This is the first of an expected five-part series highlighting real events from Gary’s frankincense exploration in Somalia, written by Gary himself. Part 1 I spent eight years trying every angle possible to get into Somalia to see the frankincense trees, applying for visas, and being turned down countless times, all while my friends, colleagues, and sweetheart kept saying to me, “Gary, this seems crazy. Why do you want to go to Somalia? It is so dangerous.” Yes, I saw the news and read the newspapers. No matter what the response, the consequences, or the outcome, I just want to know the truth so that when what I say is repeated, I know it is the truth. It is easy to defend documented truth, and that is what I desire for anyone who might be

challenged. Where does Boswellia frereana grow? In what conditions does it grow? How and when is it harvested and how long does it take? Who does the harvesting? How many grades are there and who determines that? How did it get from the trees to me? Where does Boswellia carterii grow? What are the growing differences between the two trees? I just had to see it. I had to know. That meant that I had to go to Somalia. There just had to be a way, and I knew that God would provide. As I sat down on the plane on the last leg of my journey, I started talking to myself again. “Was a simple grove of frankincense trees really worth the price I was paying? If I die, will the information really mean anything to anyone? Would my discoveries even make it out of Somalia to the world?” That was a sobering thought. “So, why am I doing this? Look at the

companies out there selling synthetic cut perfume oils, calling them 100 percent certified therapeutic, doing well, and making a lot of money; but they are not here. Nobody else would take this risk, nor do they care about the truth. They just spin their lies and people buy them. No, this can’t be worth it.”

Gary checks to see if this tree is frereana or carterii.

Just then I heard this still, small voice in my head that said, “You know what matters the most. You can sleep with the peace of knowing the truth and that it will stand forever, regardless of how people perceive it. I AM TRUTH AND YOU ARE NOT ALONE.” I felt comforted.

DGYF: Hope In Action By Don Clair Director, D. Gary Young Foundation

The D. Gary Young Foundation is growing rapidly and is making the world a better place in many ways. When we look at the Young Living Academy, we tend to focus just on the children. Yes, our goal is to help them, but there is more to share with you. This year, parents of Young Living Academy students formed the Central Parent Committee (CPC). This group of dedicated Young Living Academy parents is committed to helping their children get the best education possible and to support the school financially. The CPC recently held their first fundraiser for the academy. For $1, parents and visitors were treated to a great event that focused on celebrating Ecuador’s colourful and cultural diversity. Attendees enjoyed tasty donated food, and a group of professional folk dancers performed for the students and their families. One of the academy teachers is a member of the professional folk dance group and was instrumental in organising all of the dance arts. The CPC’s event was richly successful! The community now embraces the school and values the opportunities that education brings. Most significantly, the CPC took the initiative to make a difference in their community and raised $1,000 to buy new musical instruments for the school, including a drum kit, a guitar, a bass, and amplifiers. Remember to register for the special D. Gary Young Foundation event during the 2014 International Grand Convention. It will be a night to celebrate! Watch for registration information at DGaryYoungFoundation.org.
