All-BIG EAST Selections: 3 All-American Honors: 0 BIG EAST Tournament With only three newcomers joining a cast of players who went 5-22 the season prior to Mike Carey’s first as head coach of the Mountaineers, WVU produced the first winning regular season since 1996-97. West Virginia was picked last in the BIG EAST preseason coaches’ poll but finished 10th. Kate Bulger garnered all-BIG EAST second team honors while the freshmen tandem of Yolanda Paige and Sherell Sowho was named to the all-BIG EAST rookie team.

WVU boasted an 11-0 mark in non-conference play, a first, which included a school-record 71 percent shooting performance in a 114-45 victory at Robert Morris. The Mountaineers qualified for their second consecutive BIG EAST Tournament and Kate Bulger was named to the all-BIG EAST third team.

All-BIG EAST Selections: 2 All-American Honors: 0 NCAA Tournament First Round WVU posted its first 20-win season and advanced to its first NCAA tournament in 12 years. West Virginia posted a 10-6 record in BIG EAST play, winning six more games than it did the previous season, marking one of the best turnarounds from one year to the next in league history. Carey garnered BIG EAST Coach of the Year honors. The Mountaineers defeated two ranked teams in No. 19/21 Virginia Tech at home, after rallying from a double-figure deficit in the final four minutes, and knocked off No. 23/23 in BIG EAST quarterfinal action to advance to their first-ever semifinal appearance. Meg Bulger was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year while sister Kate Bulger was named to the conference’s second team. Yolanda Paige was named to the third team and became the first player in school history named to the BIG EAST all-Tournament Team.

Both garnered honorable mention All-America honors.
