June 30th, 6:30pm, Tickets $20 Metroplex Theater, Atlanta www.eventbrite.com/event/3565290881

Sold for money by her family and betrayed by the church, “My Yoke is Easy, My Burdens are Light” is a hard-hitting gospel play about Lisa, a young girl who was abused by her grandfather and struggles to live with that secret for the rest of her life. Will Lisa be consumed by her past? Or will she take vengeance against everyone who ever hurt her and anyone in her path, or will she find God’s yoke is easy and June 2012

His burdens are light? Follow the first in a six series production.

Interview with Playwright, Trina Liverman When and why did you begin writing plays? I started writing plays while in prison to participate in a black history show. What inspired you to write this play? My Pastor asked me to write a skit on my yoke is easy. What can we expect from the next series? You can expect to laugh and cry, but most of all you will leave with a message that will hopefully make you want to never give up.

Broken

Interview with Playwright, Shenise Blake

June 2nd at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm Georgia Tech Student Center Theater, Atlanta Tickets $15 in advance, Package Deal 2 for $25 http://brokentheplay.eventbrite.com Broken is a story of forgiveness, faith and facades. When the matriarch of the family passes away, the dynamics of the family change. Can the family survive the lies, hurt and pain or will they stay broken? The play focuses on four sisters and their not so traditional views of grief. The comedic nuances and powerful singing by this dynamic cast is sure to be a hit that you don’t want to miss. Special appearance by Jermel Howard from the films “The Brave One” and “Queen of Media”. About GIPSEE Production GIPSEE is an acronym that means “God’s Inspired Poetic Scribes Enlighten Everyone.” A percentage of GIPSEE Productions proceeds will go to Sophie’s Voice Foundation and the Fuller Center for Housing.

June 2012

What inspired you to write this play? After suffering the devastating loss of my mother, I poured my grief into writing the explosive play “Broken” which deals with the very real aftermath of grief’s impact on the family left behind after a sudden death. What advice would you offer to others on how to heal from the loss of a mother? Reflect on the good times you had with her, give yourself permission to grieve, don't dwell on what you didn't do and lean on God. Know that there is no 'right' way to grieve but with time, love and God, there is healing after you have been broken.

What’s the 411? Atlanta: Father’s Day Events

Father’s Day Everyday people responses to…

What was your most memorable event with your dad? “He used to sit with me at the kitchen table and watch me eat dinner when I got home from work. We would talk, laugh or sometimes say nothing at all. I realize now that I took those times for granted, because I look back and wish I had them again. My dad passed away in 2010 from complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. He wasn’t able to communicate like that with me again during the last few years of his life.” Janice, Human Resources Professional

“When I beat my dad in golf” Paul, Student

“I remember one day having a hard day at work. Then to top it off I had to come home and clean the house. When I walked through the door, my dad surprised me with a clean house, clothes folded, and my plate waiting for me at the table. Now moments like that are priceless! Donmika, Hauler

“I am a daddy’s girl, so there are so many memorable events -- from taking me to my favorite fast food restaurants after school, chauffeuring me and my friends to school activities, teaching me the steel drums, offering career advice, it goes on and on. I have an awesome dad! Maxine, Self-Employed
