Steve

NUGENT Head Coach First Year

Steve Nugent became the Washington State University Head Soccer Coach, Feb. 3, 2014. In doing so, he became the sixth mentor in program history after spending the last three seasons at UNC Greensboro. His 2012 UNCG squad captured the Southern Conference regular season title. From 2008-10, Nugent was an assistant coach at Georgia. The Bulldogs won 37 matches during those three seasons and advanced to the NCAA Championship twice. Nugent worked with goalkeepers and defense at Georgia and mentored goalkeeper Michelle Betos, who set the Bulldogs’ career record for wins while posting the second-highest single-season save total in school history. Georgia had 10 all-region selections in Nugent’s tenure and finished in the top 25 rankings twice. Nugent’s career began in 1989 with Team Boca club soccer in Boca Raton, Fla. He served two stints there (1989-2000 and 2002-08). He was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Girls Youth Competitive Division South Region Coach of the Year in 2005. He helped Team Boca win 15 state championships and developed nine girls who went on

to become national team members for the respective countries. From 1994-97, Nugent was a volunteer assistant coach at Lynn. The Fighting Knights captured the 1994 and 1995 national championships in NAIA and were NCAA Division II runner-up in 1996. During the 2000 season, Nugent was a graduate assistant at Florida State. The Seminoles earned their first NCAA berth, a trip to the NCAA Third Round and the school’s first postseason national ranking. He moved to Rice as an assistant coach in 2001 and helped the Owls qualify for the WAC Tournament in their first year of competition. A native of South Boston, Mass., Nugent holds an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma with Distinction, a U.S. Soccer “B” License and a US Youth Soccer National Youth License. He is a 1996 graduate of Florida Atlantic, Nugent and his wife, Janna, have three sons, Trevor, Brady and Connor.

DAVISON Assistant Coach First Year

Sandy Davison brought over 25 years of coaching experience to Washington State when she joined the Cougar soccer program in February, 2014. Davison spent 2013 as the volunteer assistant coach at Louisville. The Cardinals finished runner-up in the American Athletic Conference, earned a Top 25 national ranking and reached the NCAA First Round. AAC Player of the Year Christine Exeter and Midfielder of the Year Charlyn Corral were both named All-Northeast Region. Davison was Cincinnati’s volunteer assistant coach in 2012. Her first-collegiate job came in 2011 as an assistant at UNCG to current WSU Head Coach Steve Nugent in 2011. She was the recruiting coordinator and coached student-athletes who earned 11 weekly and/or season awards at conference, state and national levels. Her experience with US Soccer Youth National Teams began in 2002 when she was a U.S. Soccer Federation women’s representative at the USOC Women’s Leadership Conference. In 2003, Davison worked at the U-14 Youth National ID Camp and the U-17 Youth National Team Camp levels. She coached U-14 Youth National ID Camps, 2007-10, mentored at the U-15 Youth National Team Nike Friendlies in 2008, and served on the US Soccer Youth National Team Scouting staff, 2010-12.

Davison has coached in the three of the four ODP regions. Since 2013, she has been a U-16 assistant coach for Region II, a position she held for Region IV in 2001. She was a regional staff coach for Region IV (1997-98, 2009) and Region III (2003-04, 2006-08, 2011). She served as the head coach for the Region III ’93 U-17 CONCACAF Costa Rica tour in 2008 and was the head coach for the 94, 93 and 92 age groups from 2006-08. She was a part of ODP state teams, 1994-2012. Her career began in 1987 as the head coach of San Juan Soccer Club in Sacramento, Calif. She worked with club teams in Sacramento and nearby Davis until serving the first of three stints with the Challenge South Soccer Club in Houston, 1998-2000. Davison was the technical director at Pleasanton (Calif.) Rage Soccer Club from 2000-02. Following a return to Challenge South (2002-04), Davison was the program director for the Weston Fury Soccer Club in Weston, Fla., 2004-06. She was the Girls Director of Coaching at Tophat Soccer Club in Atlanta, 2006-07 and at Space City FC in Houston, 2007-08. After returning to Challenge South, 2008-09, Davison became the Girls Division Director at Sereno Soccer Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. She assisted in the placement of over 40 players in NCAA Division I, II and III programs. 3

HARVEY Assistant Coach First Year

Jon Harvey joined the Washington State University soccer staff in February, 2014. He came to Pullman from UNCG where he was an assistant for one season under current WSU Head Coach Steve Nugent. With the Spartans, Harvey was the goalkeeping coach and recruiting coordinator. Under his tutelage, UNCG lowered its goals against average from 1.02 to 0.75, good for 35th nationally. He coached Jamie Simmons, who recorded the 18th-best save percentage in the nation last season. Prior to his stint at UNCG, Harvey was a volunteer coach at Georgia (2011-12) and worked primarily with goalkeepers. He helped All-SEC and all-region goalkeeper Ashley Baker etch her name in the Georgia record books in nearly every category. Baker signed a professional contract in England and earned a call up to the Senior National Team’s camp following her career at Georgia. She was the 20th overall pick by Sky Blue FC in the 2013 National Women’s Soccer League college draft. From 2006-10, Harvey was an assistant coach at NCAA Division II North Georgia. The Saints won 58 percent of their matches during that span, earned their first 4

NSCAA Top 25 ranking and reached the Peachbelt Conference Tournament championship match. Harvey was instrumental in lowering North Georgia’s goals against average from 1.79 in 2005 (the year prior to his arrival) to a program-best 1.03 in 2010 (his final season). He recruited and trained 13 All-Peachbelt Conference performers, five NSCAA All-South Region selections, and NSCAA All-American and a Peachbelt Conference Freshman of the Year. Harvey’s responsibilities also included practice planning, fundraising, travel and recruiting. From 2000-05, Harvey served in the United States Navy. His military career included decorated combat tours in Al Anbar Province, Iraq in 2004 and 2005. Harvey is also on staff with the USSF as well as the Region III ODP goalkeeping. He has become a member of US Soccer National Training Centers in Atlanta and Jacksonville, Fla. He holds a USSF “B” License and NSCAA Levels I, II and III Goalkeeping Diplomas. He is a graduate of North Georgia and is married to his wife, Raegan.

SCHISEL Coordinator of Operations First Year

Alex Schisel was named to coordinator of operations for women’s soccer in March, 2014. Schisel graduated from Pacific Lutheran in 2011 and is scheduled to earn his master’s degree in sport management from Washington State in May, 2014. He played for the Lutes under coach John Yorke and was a member of the 2011 squad the became the first in school history to make the NCAA Division III Championship.

Schisel played his prep soccer at Highline High School and finished his four-year career with 44 assists, which ranked second in school history. He was a team captain as a senior. He played for F.C. United (now Washington Premier F.C.) out of Tacoma, Wash. A native of Burien, Wash., Schisel will be responsible for team travel, camps and gameday operations. He was a team manager in 2013.

The Cougars made history with their third-straight NCAA Championship appearance, a first for the program. Along the way, Washington State set or tied over 30 school records. Keidane McAlpine was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year while Micaela Castain (11 goals, 11 assists) took home the conference’s player of the year award and became the first All-American in school history. The Cougar defense was stingy setting standards for shutouts (15), road shutouts (8), goals against average (0.50) and fewest goals allowed (11). Washington State drew a school-record 7,085 fans to its home matches.
