The Sooners’ first recorded NCAA Tournament appearance was in in 1947. They defeated Oklahoma A&M, 6-2, in the opener.

OU’s total number of NCAA appearances, third in the Big 12 behind Texas and Oklahoma State. Twice, the Sooners have made six straight trips to the tourney (1972-1977 and 1984-1989).

Sunny Golloway is 29-16 as a coach in seven of the Sooners’ last 12 appearances and has been on the staff for OU’s last four regional championships (2006, 1995, 1994 and 1992).

The Sooners scored 21 runs against Eastern Kentucky to open the 1986 tournament, a program best for an NCAA Tournament game. OU has scored 10-plus runs on 15 occasions in NCAA postseason play.

The Sooners have recorded a winning record in 15 of their 32 NCAA tournament appearances. OU is 70-62 in 132 games played.

2006 NORMAN REGIONAL Under first year head coach Sunny Golloway, the Sooners won the 2006 Norman Regional at L. Dale Mitchell Park. After winning the program’s 10th regional/district title, OU took then-No. 1 Rice to game three of the Houston Super Regional. Despite narrowly missing the program’s 10th College World Series Appearance, the Sooners made their first appearance in a Super Regional after the format originated in 1999. In addition, Golloway became just the second coach in NCAA history to lead his club to a Super Regional in his first full season at the helm.
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER The Sooners have enjoyed home field advantage on seven occasions. OU has hosted NCAA Regionals in 2009, 2006, 2004, 2000, 1977, 1975 and 1974.
Chip Glass was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 1994 College World Series. Glass is pictured above signing autographs in Norman after the team returned from Omaha with the program’s second National Championship. Glass is one of 27 Sooners who have been named to a postseason All-Tournament team in the last 16 years.
