This lecture will also reinforce the chair-side techniques for head & neck and intra-oral examinations. Techniques for written and photo documentation of oral lesions will also be discussed.

New Approach for Antimicrobial Treatment of Periodontal Disease Jorgen Slots, DDS, DMS, PhD Thursday, June 12 from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Repeat) CDE Credits: 3 Hours Room: Hyatt, Olympic Tower, Evergreen ABC Dentistry utilizes mechanical therapy (scaling and root planing), antiseptics, and systemic antibiotics to control periodontal infections. Systemic antibiotic therapy can help eliminate pathogenic bacteria that invade gingival tissue or reside in extradental sites. This lecture will discuss how anti-infective therapy provides an effective, safe and affordable treatment of various types of periodontal disease. Treatment protocols and cases will be presented. Learning Objectives: • Identify the type of periodontal patients who should be treated with specific types of adjunctive antimicrobial therapy • Identify the most optimal antibiotic and antiseptic therapy for individual patients • Institute a highly-effective, long-lasting and inexpensive means of combating bad breath and some types of tooth sensitivity (this part of the lecture is new and extremely valuable) Dr. Slots is a professor of periodontology and microbiology at the University of Southern California.
