New for Expo 2014 Expo 2014 is working with local EAA Chapter 1240 to add a Workshop or two to the daily agenda. The workshops will be in EAA’s new Youth Education hangar. In addition to the exposition, trade show, and demonstration flights, Expo features manufacturer showcases, a variety of educational forums, keynote speakers, aviation artists, and concessionaires. Expo will be announcing some big surprises in the coming months leading up to the 10th anniversary event.

Arranged by Helen Tempest of Fly2Help and hosted by North London Flying School, the event was a day to give children and parents a flight experience to put a smile on their face. Many of the families had lost a loved one or have a sick family member or are themselves unwell.

Africa The day started around 10:00am and as families arrived they were greeted by the team and had a refreshing drink in the cafe. After a full safety briefing and an explanation on how an aircraft flies in the club house, they were introduced to their pilots who were private owners based at the airfield that had volunteered to take them flying. Lunch was provided after the flights and this was followed by a tour of the airfield. First stop was the aerobatic box which included a device to go upside down. The youngsters all had a go (and one brave mum) at feeling what it would be like to be upside down in an aircraft. This was followed by a “go” in the parked airfield fire truck and a visit from Fly2Help’s fluffy mascot – Douglas the Bear (aka Martin Kovac).

Following that there was a presentation of the certificates. Helen Tempest asked Sue Hart to present the participants with their own individual certificate and goody bag.
