FESTIVAL UK’s Panshangar Aerodrome Revived Again! Relaxed but fun-filled surroundings at the fourth Panshangar Revival Day.

Panshanger Aerodrome held the fourth Revival Day on Sunday 19th August, which was organised by North London Flying School and Out of the Box Café due to the success of last year’s event. The event displayed vintage planes from Spartan Executives to Tiger Moths along with over 120 vintage cars and motorbikes of the same era. Military vehicles were also part of the show this year with army camps on the airfield. The whole aerodrome was themed 1930s from old-fashioned lemonade and the Happy Jazz Band to entertain along with dancers from jiveswing.com who provided a dance lesson during the day. In the Out of the Box café there was a showing of a vintage slide show actually held at Panshanger many years ago!

There were also 1930s Olympic Games held round the back of the club house which included sack races, long jump etc and the Gold medallists won a flight. Roller ball raised money for the Herts Air Ambulance and also help for heroes was another charity supported on the day raising just over £100. Panshanger Aerodrome is one of the few remaining aerodromes with a historic background as it was used as a decoy aerodrome during the war. As well as being an RAF military base for some years, the London Aeroplane Club operated from there and taught many aspiring pilots to fly. Today it is a licensed aerodrome and continues to spread the passion for aviation through being the base for the North London Flying School (www.northlondonflyingschool.com) and Out of the Box café recently quoted as one of the best airfield cafes (www.liveoutofthebox.co.uk). Friendship Roll-Out In early July, Fokker F-27 Friendship ‘ prototype’ was rolled out of the KLM paint shop at Schipol in the Netherlands, wearing the Blue and white livery of the 1955-built prototype aircraft. The Friendship was flown from the UK in November 2011, and following this restoration will become a ‘gate guardian’ in front of the Fokker Business Park, which is located on the site of the former factory at Schipol.

Sopwith Snipe for Hendon - R.E.8 and Albatros D.Va also arrive from NZ A Sopwith 7F.1 Snipe incorporating numerous original parts arrived in the UK on July 31 from Wellington, New Zealand. The 95-year old design was built for the RAF Museum by The Vintage Aviator Ltd (TVAL). The RAF Museum’s replica R.E.8 and German Albatros D.Va also arrived in the same shipment and all three aircraft went directly to Old Warden airfield. Hurricane back at Biggin A Hawker Hurricane MkI has arrived “home” at Biggin Hill Airfield after 10 years in Texas, USA. It arrived in a crate in mid-July, and was subsequently re-assembled in the Biggin Hill Heritage hangar in early August. Currently owned by the Friedkin family in the USA, the aircraft had a 50,000 hour restoration between 1994-2000 before it flew again in June 2000. Its first display, before it was shipped to the USA in 2001, was at the 2000 Flying Legends air show in Duxford. We are responding to progressively wider availability of unleaded aviation-grade fuel supplies for light aircraft,” says Michael Kraft, Lycoming senior vice president and general manager. “It’s a significant and positive development that European unleaded avgas producers and EASA are making UL 91available and easily usable to consumers. Dynon has just introduced a portable true attitude indicator that can be used by all pilots. The D1 utilizes familiar Dynon MEMS-based AHRS technology in a true artificial horizon instrument; the D1 can quickly display accurate pitch and roll, even if it’s turned on in flight, and it maintains the horizon accurately during extended turns. The AHRS sensors also drive a turn rate indicator and slip/skid ball. At only 3½” wide, 3¼” high, and 1” thick, the D1 packs a lithium-ion battery that lasts four hours on a charge, and the unit comes with two

The Latitude was originally announced to have an expected range of 2,000 nautical miles, but through customer input and quality design and engineering, the Latitude is now expected to have a maximum range of 2,500 nautical miles (4,630 kilometers). Announced in October 2011, the Citation Latitude will offer Cessna's widest-yet passenger cabin with stand-up access throughout its length of more than 16 feet. Embraer faces a new delay on the Legacy 500 programme as the manufacturer continues to grapple with problems on the type's fly-bywire system supplied by Parker Aerospace. First flight of the midsize business jet is now expected to slip into the fourth quarter and entry-into-service could slide into early 2014, although the official schedule for first delivery remains late 2013, says Ernest Edwards, president of Embraer Executive Jets. "I don't think [the new delay] is going to affect entry-into-service, Parker has delivered the components of the fly-by-wire system that were responsible for the original delay to Embraer,” Edwards says. Delivery of the remote electronic units (REUs), which operate the flight control surface actuators, had given Embraer confidence only three weeks ago to reaffirm plans to complete first flight before 1 October. But the schedule has slipped again because of delays with the software linking the REUs to the flight control computer. The company has continued to conduct ground tests on the first prototype and to build the second and third flight test prototypes. OPMAS Guidance for Corporate Users

This summer the European Court of Justice, ECJ, decided in a case involving VAT and a Finnish owner of two business jets. The Finnish company bought and leased aircraft to a Finnish international charter operator and AOC holder. The natural person, X, owning the company was the primary user of the aircraft. The court allowed the company the VAT exemption for qualifying airlines under the Sixth VAT Directive despite the fact that the company was not an airline itself and that the aircraft was used by X most of the time. It was also concluded that an international charter operator with an AOC or charter certificate and not only a scheduled carrier is considered a VAT exempt airline.

To be specific: an international charter operator may import at a 0% VAT rate (VAT exemption), a company leasing an aircraft to such a charter operator may also import at a 0% VAT rate. To avoid any misunderstandings the AOC procedure for qualified operators is a separate procedure unrelated to our other importation procedure for corporate aircraft owners and operators and aircraft under management. The AOC procedure is strictly for operators with - an AOC! Some AOC holders will qualify for both procedures. Bell Helicopter has announced towards the end of August, that it has delivered the first Bell 429 configured for emergency medical services (EMS) in Europe to Air Zermatt in Switzerland. According to the company, Air Zermatt selected the Bell 429 for its ‘unmatched ability to operate at high altitudes and in extreme conditions’.

Russian Helicopters has confirmed that the Mi-38 helicopter has set a new world altitude record on 27 August, the final day of the 14th FAI World Helicopter Championships, climbing above 8,600 meters at the Drakino airbase in the Serpukhov District of the Moscow Region. The flight set a new world record in the E1h class - the FAI category for helicopters weighing 10,000 to 20,000 kg. Test pilots from the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant, part of Russian Helicopters, flew the aircraft to beat the previous record of 8,500 meters, also set by Russian pilots during a test flight.
