SEPTEMBER Saturday 10th Houses of Parliament Audio Tour ROUTE A Fascinating day out as we travel to Westminster. We have included an audio tour which includes the Commons and Lords Chambers, the Queen's Robing Room, the Royal Gallery and Westminster Hall. The tour takes approximately 75 minutes with visitor assistants along the route to help if required. Most of the buildings seen on the tour were built in the mid 19th Century following a devastating fire, but the route also incorporates some of the earlier buildings, such as Westminster Hall. Free time also to enjoy the area - other attractions close by include Westminster Abbey and the London Eye. Price includes tour. Adult/Over 60 £35.00, Child £20.00 Monday 12th Montacute House, National Trust ROUTE Z This magnificent Elizabethan Mansion House located in South Somerset is constructed in local Ham stone and incorporates a National Portrait Gallery exhibition. Highly recommended. The house is noted for its fine furniture, tapestries and heraldic glass and its amazing Long Gallery which extends the full length of the house - a remarkable 172ft! Outside there is a superb formal garden with mixed borders, old roses and a landscaped park - great for exploring. Montacute House was been used extensively as a film location, notably in Ang Lee's version of Sense and Sensibility. Price includes entrance. Tuesday 13th Osborne House – Isle of Wight (EH) ROUTE C Queen Victoria's seaside holiday home is a very popular destination with our customers. A fascinating rare glimpse in to Royal life in the 19th Century, the house has an extravagant interior and there are extensive gardens offering views across the Solent. Take an intimate glimpse into Queen Victoria's family life as you tour the nursery and private rooms of Victoria and Albert. Marvel at the magnificence of the Royal Apartments including the sumptuous drawing and dining rooms and the richly decorated Indianinspired Durbar Room. Wednesday 14th Broughton Castle ROUTE A Broughton Castle is a stunning moated and fortified manor house near Banbury in North Oxfordshire. Set in parkland and built of the rich local Hornton ironstone, it was selected by Simon Jenkins as one of only twenty to be awarded five stars in his book England's Thousand Best Houses. After stopping for lunch we shall arrive at Broughton for afternoon entry to the Castle and grounds. The core of the house was built in 1306 and the gatehouse in the early fifteenth century, but most of what you see today dates from the 1550's. It was a centre of opposition to Charles I and was besieged and damaged after the Battle of Edgehill in 1642. Tearoom open on site. Memorable experience. Adult £29.00, Over 60 £28.00, Under 16 £15.00 Thursday 15th Uppark House - National Trust & Midhurst ROUTE B In the morning we head to the delightful market town of Midhurst for time to relax and have lunch before heading to Uppark House. Uppark is an impressive late 17th Century National Trust house offering magnificent panoramic views from its setting, high on the South Downs of West Sussex. The house contains 18th Century collections of French furniture, paintings, ceramics and textiles. Perhaps the most impressive piece is the famous dolls' house which gives a detailed look of life at that time. The garden is picturesque, primarily foliage, with flowering shrubs, bulbs, perennials and herbaceous plants. When you need a rest, head for the Orangery Café for tea and a bite to eat. Friday 16th Dyrham Park - National Trust ROUTE A This spectacular 17th century baroque mansion is situated in South Gloucestershire, not far from Bristol. Surrounded by a stunning 274 acres of rolling parkland offering lovely views of the house and beyond. The house is renowned for an ancient herd of over 200 fallow dear. From the founder William Blathwayt, the house has a remarkable history and has many Dutch influences - there is a fine collection of paintings, wall hangings, furniture and ceramics. Within the house there are exhibitions highlighting how Dyrham was built and adapted over the years. Monday 19th Fort Nelson - Royal Armouries OR GunWharf Quays ROUTE D After undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment, Fort Nelson has been brought in to the 21st Century with a superb new visitor centre, café and galleries. Situated on Portsdown Hill, looking down on Portsmouth, The Solent and with views of The South Downs, Fort Nelson has a checkered military history dating back to 1871. Built on a vast scale there is plenty to discover during your stay including underground tunnels and ramparts with over 350 big guns on display. Don’t miss the daily gun firing at 1pm. Entrance to the museum is free. Alternatively, you can stay on the coach as we go on to the superb shopping and leisure centre of GunWharf Quays beautifully situated on the waterfront at Portsmouth. Tuesday 27th Windsor ROUTE A There is a lovely sense of history in Windsor with the Castle dominating the town and many other historical building around the town. Thursday 6th Lords - The Home of Cricket ROUTE A New addition for our excursion programme in 2016 and one we are really looking forward to! Come along and experience one of the truly great sporting venues anywhere in the world. The history of Lords still draws the next generation of young talent from all over the world, who want to walk in the footsteps of the ‘greats’. We will be joined by a knowledgeable guide for a 1 ½ hour tour due to include the acclaimed museum, home of the famous Ashes urn and 400 years of cricket history. The tour continues through the Pavillion to the famed Long Room, from where the players make their way to the pitch. Other highlights include the players’ Dressing Rooms and the treasured Lord’s Honour Boards. Lords cannot guarantee all areas will be open on the day. Thursday 13th Imperial War Museum, London ROUTE A The Imperial War Museum in London was created in 1917 to collect material relating to World War I and has gone on to collect from WW2 and more modern conflicts, telling the stories of people's experiences of modern war. Inside you will find military vehicles, weapons, war memorabilia, an extensive library, a photographic archive, and an art collection of 20th century and later conflicts. To mark the centenary of WWI the museum has some ground-breaking new galleries to discover. There is a café that serves hot and cold food. Exhibition content subject to change. Free admission. Bombay Sapphire Distillery Tour ROUTE C Friday 14th Come along for a tour of this remarkable site at Laverstoke in Hampshire. After stopping in Winchester, with time to explore and enjoy lunch we arrive at the distillery around 2.00pm. Bombay Sapphire is one of the worlds premium Gins with its production distillery beautifully situated in an historic old Mill on the River Test.
