Throughout this report, Wichita Community Foundation’s survey results are compared to CEP’s broader dataset of over 10,000 donors from over 80 community foundations. The full list of participating funders can be found at http://cep.org/dpr-participants/. In order to protect the confidentiality of respondents, results are not shown when CEP received fewer than five responses to a specific question.
Subgroups In addition to showing WCF's overall ratings, this report also shows ratings segmented by Fund Type. Using data from WCF's donor list, and in consultation with WCF, CEP tagged donors based on their Fund Type. The ratings of Designated Fund holders trend lower than the ratings of other fund holders on many measures in the report, including for their overall satisfaction with the Foundation and their likely to recommend WCF to a friend or colleague. CONFIDENTIAL Donor Suggestions Foundation Communication (33% N=9) Increase Visibility of the Foundation (N = 5) "Continue to get the message out to professionals, brokers, accountants and attorneys regarding the impact of WCF's community of donors and how simple it is to give donations through WCF." "WCF still needs to work on better and/or more effective ways to educate the community in all the different ways it can help donors and how easy and effective using WCF is." "Increased visibility and sharing goals for WCF." "...Have not done a good job of telling their story..." Provide Donors with More Frequent Updates about Foundation Work and Fund Status (N = 2) "Detailed reporting about my donor advised fund are very rudimentary, too boilerplate..." "More communication." Communicate Community Needs (N = 1) "The one improvement would be communicating needs in the community. We are sometimes willing to give just not sure who to give to." Solicit Donor Input (N = 1) "For all of the recent, high profile WCF projects, it seemed like just a few people had info and input on these projects." Community Impact (22% N=6) Orientation (N = 4) "To me, education is the most important issue. In my opinion WCF dodged the issue with the Chung report. And the WCF literacy program, like the other major literacy programs doesn't move the needle on student achievement." "I would like more people to receive scholarships or more insight into why scholarships are not being given." "Be more selective. Not say "yes" to everything." "Not focus only on Chung." Community Involvement (N = 1) "...Need to be more involved in the community." Provide Donors with More Information About Local Nonprofits (N = 1) "...Not-for-profits need more exposure to their donor pool." Donor Resources and Services (22% N=6) Provide Donors with More Learning Opportunities about Giving Areas of Interest (N = 2) "I would like to hear more about the different initiatives WCF engages in, and information about what other donors are doing. I know mailings are expensive, but it's helpful to read stories about what others are doing. I learn so much when I sit down with my contacts at WCF, but I don't feel like that information is being pushed out to the public; I had to go in to get it." "When a direct need is identified some notification to donors of the need so that if they wanted they could suggest donations to help that need." Donor Central (N = 1) "Donor Central is wooden and needs to be replaced..." Provide Donors with More Frequent Updates about Foundation Work and Fund Status (N = 1) "A more frequent report of the status of the investments would be a good idea." Other (N = 2) "Utilize former and current board members, CPAs and Estate planning attorneys for individual meetings with prospects about benefits of DAF." "Longer ago detailed giving on client website i.e., I forgot who I gave to 4 or 5 years ago." Foundation Administration (11% N=3) Administrative Costs (N = 2) "All we've seen thus far is rather sizable fees and no ROI." "Reduce fees, improve investment performance." Website (N = 1) "It would be nice to request and send funds to charities through the website without calling or filling out paper forms..." Interactions (11% N=3) Increase Donor Interaction (N = 1) "WCF is doing better at developing "touch points" with stakeholders as well as potential stakeholders, but this could be further improved. I recognize it is challenging to do - with a small staff responsible for execution of substantial projects..." Other (N = 2) "Board seems to be elitist..." "...Acknowledgment letters appear to be cut and paste and have errors more often than they should."

CONFIDENTIAL Additional Survey Information On many questions in the donor survey, donors are allowed to select “don’t know” or “not applicable” if they are not able to provide an alternative answer. In addition, some questions in the survey are only displayed to a select group of donors for whom that question is relevant based on a previous response. As a result, there are some measures where only a subset of responses is included in the reported results. The table below shows the number of responses included on each of these measures. The total number of respondents to WCF’s donor survey was 54.

CONFIDENTIAL About CEP and Contact Information Mission: To provide data and create insight so philanthropic funders can better define, assess, and improve their effectiveness – and, as a result, their intended impact.
Vision: We seek a world in which pressing social needs are more effectively addressed. We believe improved performance of philanthropic funders can have a profoundly positive impact on nonprofit organizations and the people and communities they serve. Although our work is about measuring results, providing useful data, and improving performance, our ultimate goal is improving lives. We believe this can only be achieved through a powerful combination of dispassionate analysis and passionate commitment to creating a better society.
About the DPR Since 2009, the Donor Perception Report (DPR) has provided community foundations with comparative data on their donors’ perceptions, preferences for engagement, and giving patterns. Based on research and guidance from a group of community foundation leaders, the DPR is the only survey process that provides comparative data for community foundations. Over 80 community foundations of all sizes from across North America have commissioned the DPR, over 10,000 donors have provided their perspectives. The DPR’s quantitative and qualitative data helps community foundation leaders to better understand their work with donors, and how that compares to their philanthropic peers.
