Students continue to visit the IMC physically and virtually to search scholarly databases, discover search tools and strategies, “book shop” for independent reading, explore online presentation and creation tools, work in groups, meet for book club, play chess, and collaborate. Through the IMC website, students and teachers have 24/7 access to research databases, class hotlists/guides, online re-

sources by subject area, online reference tools, reading resources, how to guides, and much more. The use of research databases continues to grow among students as I work with more classes on research and the benefits of using databases. We have seen an increase in on-campus and remote database usage with our Gale database subscriptions. (Right: database usage statistics)

for our Science curriculum.

Due to continued budget constraints and after evaluating database usage statistics, we decided to eliminate both World News Digest and Today’s Science. This allowed us to add Gale Science in Context which will be a valuable resource

About Reading We worked this year to market and feature a variety of books that appealed to different interests and reading levels. Monthly book displays featured a variety of non-fiction and fiction books to heighten students interest in reading. In addition, book talks, book trailers, and book shopping by genre helped expose students to a variety of books for their reading pleasure. The Abraham Lincoln Readers’ Choice Award Reading Program This year we had several students participate in the monthly “Read an Abe, Win an Abe” program and voting for this year’s Abe book award winner. Zach Greene was our April winner of “Read an Abe, Win an Abe”. Zach read Escape from Camp 14: One Man’s Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West by Blaine Harden and stated, “I would recommend this book because it tells the harrowing, true story of a boy who lived in a North Korean prison camp.”

due to PARCC testing I was surprised to see that circulation continued to increase! Fiction continues to circulate more which is likely due to our increased focus on independent reading and our reading culture. Students tend to check out fiction books for pleasure reading. Our non-fiction and reference collections continue to be an integral part of the curriculum and are regularly used to support classroom and individual learning.

IMC TV IMC Survey Once again, I would love to have your feedback in order to evaluate the library collection, resources, environment and myself to better serve you and your students. In order to do this, I am kindly asking you to take just a few minutes to complete this anonymous survey. I appreciate your time and your honest feedback!

The IMC TV can be used to display a device screen for instruction or demonstrations. This has created another instructional area in the IMC that teachers are welcome to use.

The IMC TV is also used to promote books and display student book reviews, spotlight IMC events, display the daily announcements, and keep students informed about all the great things that are happening at West!

About our Collection Collection Analysis by Classification We added 406 items to the collection this year, making our total number of available physical items 41,160. Proceeds from two book fairs, candy sales in the IMC, and a PTO grant have helped supplement our IMC book budget in order to buy needed books to support the curriculum and independent reading.
