RIDDEL PHOTOGRAPHERS wedding photography, australia wide

What are couples often surprised to learn? How I manage to go quite unnoticed on the day. I never want to get in the way of the festivities, so I make sure I get all the important shots in the least disruptive way. I really don't see any part of the wedding as a photo shoot, rather me just capturing the love that is celebrated on the day. What do your clients love most? How comfortable they feel in front of my lens. My approach is more of a documentary style, so I like to give my couples something to talk or think about and then just step back and see what they do with that.

How do you create a great experience? I have the privilege of spending the most time with my couples, so my mood and attitude throughout the day is key! I work quite well under pressure and am very comfortable behind the camera and I think that comes across to them. I often hear how relaxed they feel and how painless it was to get their photos taken. What’s your best wedding advice? Make it your own. Don't fall into the trap of just following tradition or trends, let the day resemble who the two of you really are.

I'm so excited to share my wedding with you! We planned an intimate winter celebration with a modern romantic feel, combining our ceremony and reception spaces with a grand fireplace as the centrepiece. Staying at the guest house for the weekend with our bridal party meant we could enjoy setting up the day before and reminiscing with everyone the day after! Feasting style food, acoustic music, artfully arranged flowers and atmospheric lighting were our priorities to create a special dinner party with our family and friends.

Best Advice “Hope for the best conditions but prepare for the worst so you’re ready for anything! We saw the wild wind and rain we experienced on the day as a sign that our relationship could weather any storm. Give your suppliers creative freedom as that's how they do their best work and don't stress about what a wedding should or shouldn't be like! Spend your time on the details and traditions that mean something to you.”

The Ceremony “Maurice and I spent the morning of the wedding getting ready together but it was still an emotional moment when he saw me in my dress for the first time down the aisle! We had a short and sweet ceremony, personalising our vows with shared promises we wrote together and love notes we wrote separately.

The Styling “We paired white timber furniture with gold candles and cutlery, introducing jewel tones through our flowers, napkins, place cards and dessert table. We converted our ceremony space into a seating area for the reception and draped festoon lighting for instant party atmosphere. As a personal touch, we lined the walls with family wedding photos which our guests loved!

What should couples keep in mind? Make sure you’re able to connect and feel comfortable with your photographer. It isn't just about likes on social media, it’s about reliving the moments for years to come. What are couples often surprised to learn? My clients often say how calm and easy going I am on the day, but deep down I'm running 100mph and planning the next best shot. How do you create a great experience? I keep in contact as much as possible during the lead up and like to keep my couples nice and relaxed on the day. I tend to chuck in random jokes to lighten the mood! What’s one popular question you get? “Should we do night shots?” Yes! 100% of the time I get thanked for giving my couples time away from the reception to just chill out with each other. What’s your best wedding advice? Talk to your photographer about timing and locations so you can get the best shots. Try not to overcomplicate the day and no matter what happens, have fun!

SAMANTHA & BEN captured by figtree wedding photography

After an overseas holiday proposal, Samantha and Ben planned their chic modern wedding. The bridal party stepped out in style with a custom lace gown for the bride, her maids in white cocktail dresses and the boys looking sharp in black tie. An elegant marquee reception followed their garden ceremony, with a bridal table arbour draped in fresh greenery and filament bulbs creating a lovely focal point. White and champagne flowers decorated the tables, adding to the atmosphere of the evening alongside the glow of chandeliers and candlelight.

WEDDING PRIORITIES “I loved planning our wedding! We had an almost two year engagement which left me plenty of time to research the style I wanted and find the right vendors. Once I knew I wanted a botanical wedding, I had so much fun seeing everything come together. As time went on I realised having good food, a good beverage selection and great entertainment was most important. We spent a little more than budgeted on these areas but are so glad we did!”

ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS WAS WHEN OUR GUESTS THREW CONFETTI AS WE WALKED DOWN THE AISLE. EVERYONE WAS SO HAPPY FOR US!

BEST ADVICE “You have no time to waste on the day so being organised is key. And just have fun! Make sure you enjoy every second with your partner and loved ones.

Hello lovers! I’m Carissa, a travelling wedding, elopement and portrait photographer based in Rockhampton. I like my couples to enjoy their day of celebration and not fixate on taking photos, creating heartfelt images that reflect who you are in my candid and natural style.

SARAH & JULIAN captured by the evoke company

Whisking her away on a surprise trip to Bali, Julian proposed to Sarah at a private beachside dining table surrounded by flowers. They kept their wedding budget in check with some head-before-heart compromises, skipping a pricey car and gown to focus their spending on the guest experience at a country estate. This offered the perfect excuse for menu and wine tasting! With her bridesmaids interstate, Sarah didn’t see them in their mismatched outfits until just before the ceremony, but it couldn’t have worked out better, don’t you think?

BRIDAL PARTY STYLE “The dress search was so much fun! Talk about feeling like a princess… When I found my dress after trying on about eighty, it wasn’t an ‘Oh my God’ moment. I just felt beautiful, comfortable and like myself. I didn't like the idea of forcing my best friends to wear identical outfits so I narrowed down the colours to blush, navy, charcoal and light grey and they chose their style. The boys looked absolutely gorgeous in crisp navy suits and bow ties with brown shoes.”

THE RECEPTION “I knew I wanted simple, luxe styling that felt glamorous but understated and not out of place in the rustic setting - complete with lots of fairy lights! I’m actually not a big flower girl, so long tables were decorated with gum leaves and candles. Julian is a pilot so we created paper aeroplanes with guest names on them in lieu of place cards, and our seating chart took inspiration from an arrivals board.”

Emerald Bridal bridal boutique, new south wales

What should brides keep in mind? Give yourself a good amount of time to try on wedding dresses to avoid the stress and pressure of last minute decision making. Dresses often need a lead time of a few months to make and alter for the perfect fit. What’s one question you often get? “What’s the most popular style?” This is not necessarily the best for every bride and we encourage our clients to try a variety of styles to find what looks best on them.

What do your brides love most? The quality of our gowns and elegance of our designs. They are often surprised at how competitively priced we are! How do you create a great experience? We are genuinely passionate about personalised service and make an effort to get to know our brides and their style. What’s your best wedding advice? Set a budget and stick to it!

Christine & Andrew captured by byron loves fawn

A proposal during an intimate Christmas Day lunch in Florence overlooking the Duomo sounds hard to beat for romance, but Christine and Andrew’s tipi wedding was an incredible bookend to their engagement! This lovely couple planned a natural and informal celebration so they could customise every aspect. Their riverside ceremony was framed by a macramÊ backdrop and followed by a bohemian reception with feasting tables and a luxe woodland vibe. With an indoor fire pit to keep things toasty, their winter wedding was truly magical!

Bridal Style “We had a winter wedding so I always knew I wanted lace sleeves! I actually hadn’t tried my dress on before I bought it, I just saw it online and knew I loved it. So I ordered it, tried it on at home and thought, ‘Wow, that’s it!’ The moment I saw Andrew on the day, the tears started and I had to accept that within an hour my makeup was 100% natural! I never expected to be so impacted by the love we received from friends and family.”

Best Advice “Things will go wrong, it’s just the nature of a big event with lots of people invited, so focus on the celebration and love. We took a chill approach and if we couldn’t get a particular supplier or things didn’t work out how we thought, we went with the flow. The only thing we wished we did was get our wedding on video as I would love to look back and see the movement, dancing and talking in action!”

The day was emotional and magical and represented so much of who we are at every turn.

MEG COWELL bespoke wedding dress photography, australia wide

What do you offer couples? I photograph wedding dresses and transform them into large-scale pieces of contemporary art. I love seeing people talking and laughing about their wedding day as they sit in their living rooms in front of my artworks. Rather than being folded away, the dress keeps the memory of the wedding alive in their home.

What's one popular question you get? “Will the water damage my dress? Modern gowns are not damageable by fresh water and every detail is considered to ensure they are not affected. Once I've finished photographing a garment, it is lovingly steamed and packaged safely for return.

What are they surprised to learn? My process altogether! It's not immediately obvious that the gowns are submerged in water, making them appear enchanted and in motion.

What do your clients love most about what you do? People really respond to the magic of my images. They enjoy the way I'm able to tailor them to the emotion of the day and the character of the bride.

Cherish The Memories wedding celebrant, queensland

What should couples keep in mind? You should feel confident that your celebrant will listen to you both and deliver the ceremony you've been dreaming of. I let my couples know how important their wedding is to me by arriving early, supplying a state of the art PA system, liaising with their venue, photographer and videographer and creating an amazing atmosphere on the day.

What are couples often surprised to learn? That there is so much more involved than turning up and reading a script! It takes many hours to put a special ceremony together.

What would you love everyone to know? I value the importance of delivering your ceremony in a way that will be enjoyed and remembered by your guests. I also ensure all the legal paperwork is filled out perfectly.

What do your clients love most? That I'm there for them from the beginning when they don't know where to start and after the wedding day is over. They can contact me any time and there are no silly questions.

What's one popular question you get? “How many weddings do you do a day? I only officiate one wedding a day to ensure my couples have my undivided attention.

Adrienne & Shaun captured by lover of mine

Enjoying Pimm’s, canapés and lawn games while listening to the strains of a string quartet set the tone for Adrienne and Shaun’s whimsical garden wedding! It was all about the flowers when it came to styling and the outcome is simply stunning, with a circular arbour doing triple duty as a backdrop to their vows, speeches and photos. With a dreamy palette of blues and pinks adding a lovely wash of colour to their glass conservatory reception, a cascade of fireworks later in the evening was the icing on the cake!

The Planning Experience “I really enjoyed the planning. We did struggle with the idea that we needed to keep everyone happy, trying to invite absolutely everyone and cater to their needs. We realised in the end that we needed to be happy and comfortable, and if we were respectful to our guests and sensible about our choices everyone would have a great day.

Best Advice “Surround yourself with people you love and vendors you can have fun with. If you're paying professionals to help create your dream wedding, trust them! They are so creative and have so many wonderful ideas, especially if you aren’t sure what you would like or how to achieve it. Remember that ultimately the day is about committing to each other, so don’t get too caught up in the little aspects. You’ll always forget something or think of other ways it could have been done.”

The floral wreath that encircled us during the ceremony moved inside as a backdrop for our cake and speeches and became an unofficial photo booth!

What would you love everyone to know? It's not about the camera! Couples are often surprised to learn how much photography of humans relies on the ability to interact with them. What should couples keep in mind? You've planned the most gorgeous wedding, how will you remember all the details? Choose a photographer that is willing to capture the photos you want. What do your clients love most? Apparently I'm super easy to work with and rather funny...possibly even a bit wacky. I make them laugh. I also bribe them with alcohol! What’s one question you often get? "What happens if it rains?" I have a personal relationship with the God of Rain, but he doesn't always oblige when I request specific dates. However I do have a bunch of umbrellas with me as rain shots can be super cool. Wet weather photo locations are something we discuss in the lead up. What’s your favourite part of the job? I love capturing the little details when you don't know I'm there. It might be a look you give each other during the ceremony, a kiss on the hand, the way your parents hug you or your bridal party helping you. Ninja stealth all the way!

Madeline & Patrick captured by one, but many

These two were inseparable from their first meeting, and when Patrick proposed to Madeline, he organised a beach picnic with a backup bottle of champagne to make sure nothing was left to chance! The coastal theme continued for their beautiful black tie wedding, where they treated guests to great wine and live music in a spectacular seaside location. With the sand just steps away, it was an easy transition from their relaxed portrait session to the party!

The Game Plan “Prior bridal party stints and attending at least 15 weddings together equipped us with fairly concrete ideas about what would work for us and how to make it all happen. On the day of our engagement, Pat and I talked about how we envisioned our wedding and quickly realised that our dream was in sync. We wrote our guest list the next morning!”

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have all the people who love you celebrating in one space. Don’t waste time stressing about the minor details!

Reception Style “My parents offered their property to us which provided an amazing coastal backdrop. I didn’t want to obstruct the view so I chose a clear marquee with crystal chandeliers over the tables and a focus on beautiful florals in natural tones. We kept the table settings romantic with antique crystal glasses, gold cutlery and blush napkins. To provide a bit of wow factor and separate the dance floor space, we had a floral chandelier on view as guests entered the marquee.”

What would you love everyone to know? Most people don’t realise that I get to spend the most amount of time with you on your wedding day. I practically have a front row seat to an amazing show, and for me this isn’t work, it’s an absolute honour! What should couples keep in mind? Photography is a vital part of your wedding day. Cakes get eaten and dresses get worn, but the way your wedding is documented will speak to future generations. You want your day to be captured accurately, beautifully, and completely. How do you create a great experience? I love getting to know my couples in the lead up to the wedding. I also try to create a relaxed and happy atmosphere on the day. If all else fails, I have a long string of terrible dad jokes to make them laugh! What do your clients love most? I love this quote by David Alan Harvey, “Don’t shoot what it looks like, shoot what it feels like.” My clients have always said I’ve managed to capture the emotion of the day. They also rave about how much fun they had shooting with me. What’s your best wedding advice? There’s no right or wrong way to have a wedding. It’s the start of your marriage to the love of your life, so be present and enjoy spending time with your friends and family.
