A good school becomes a great school when you have the commitment and support of parents, faculty, staff, alumni, grandparents, and friends of the school. Webb School of Knoxville is a great school, and our Annual Report is our way of recognizing and thanking the countless individuals who have shown their support to our vision and commitment to always being a great school. Through your generosity, we continue to make what would otherwise be ordinary moments, extraordinary experiences. Your investment in Webb School allows us to not just dream of what an exceptional educational experience might look like, but to bring it to life for each student, each day. At Webb, every experience counts, and we can enrich those experiences due to the generosity of our donors. At Webb, families count on us to prepare their children for their future. We can be cutting edge in our approach to preparing each graduate, due to the kindness and support of our donors. At Webb, we can nurture the mind, body, and spirit of each student. And we can do this due to the charity of our family and friends who give unconditionally to help us make a difference. Development Year In Review
A Record Year! We raised more than $2.6 million in total voluntary support—the most ever raised in the history of Webb School. We are truly grateful for the generosity of so many Webb parents, alumni, grandparents, and friends.
2015-2016 Annual Fund Campaign More than 1,000 donors contributed over $560,000 to the Annual Fund Campaign (between June 1, 2015 and May 31, 2016).
Alumni Scholars Fund Webb’s Alumni Leadership Council and the school’s Board of Trustees established the Alumni Scholars Fund in the spring of 2014. Almost $60,000 was

raised to create an endowment to support financial aid/scholarships at Webb. In addition, after two years, we met the $100,000 challenge given by a generous anonymous benefactor.
Annual Fund Participation All gifts of any size count toward participation in Webb’s Annual Fund Campaign. Board of Trustees 100% Parents 60% Alumni 11%
Exceptional Volunteers Hundreds of volunteers dedicate thousands of hours for the benefit of the school. The value of this time cannot be calculated!
Alumni Events Some 200 alumni gathered in September 2015 at the annual Spartan Alumni Tailgate as we dedicated the stadium in honor of longtime football coach and athletic director David Meske. Individual reunion gatherings, featuring graduating classes ending in 1 and 6, were held throughout the weekend. A special Chapel ceremony celebrated Sarah Trahern ’82, CEO of the Country Music Association, as Webb’s Distinguished Alumnus/na Award winner for 2015. The Alumni Leadership Council hosted its inaugural Alumni Achievement Awards Luncheon during reunion weekend. Over 50 classmates, family, and friends gathered to honor outstanding alumni from each reunion class. At Commencement ceremonies in May 2016, John Schmid ’86, long-tenured faculty member at Webb, received the Robert Webb Service Award.
Special Events This year’s Webbfest theme, “Webbfest Corral,” was a rootin’, tootin’ success, netting more than $15,000. The ArtXtravaganza art show and sale raised over $31,000. ArtXtravaganza continued its arts alliance with Mooreland Heights Elementary, and a joint art project by Mooreland Heights and Webb Lower School students was featured in the annual student art exhibit.
Capital Gifts Many generous donors continue to honor their multiyear pledges to various capital projects, including the Haslam Center and the turf athletic field.
Endowment Gifts to endowment last in perpetuity while the endowment principle remains intact. Seventy members of the Principes Society (our legacy society) have directed more than $9.2 million in planned giving expectancies that will support future generations of students and faculty.
In-Kind Gifts Many hundreds of items are donated each year to enhance the learning experience for our students.

Ways to Give
Gifts of Cash A cash gift may entitle the donor to an income tax deduction for the year in which the school received the gift. Gifts of Securities An outright gift of appreciated securities, which has been held for more than one year, may entitle the donor to an income tax deduction at the fair market value of the securities at the time of the gift, and may enable the donor to avoid a capital gains tax as well. Webb School sells securities gifts upon receipt, per Board policy. Real Estate Gifts A donor may contribute a residence, commercial buildings or developed or undeveloped real estate property. A remainder interest in a residence may also be donated provided that the value is significantly in excess of the mortgage. The Board of Trustees must approve that the real estate is immediately salable and that temporary ownership will not create the risk of imposing “a liability under federal or state laws.” If property has previously been held for more than one year, generally, the donor may be entitled to an income tax deduction for the value of the property (or the remainder), and the donor will not incur a capital gains tax. Gifts of Tangible, Personal Property A donor may contribute tangible, personal property, such as paintings, antiques, silver, jewelry, etc., subject to the Trustees’ acceptance.

The income tax deduction available to the donor is subject to the type of property contributed and the school’s use of the property. It is the responsibility of the donor and his/her tax advisor to assign a value to this gift for tax purposes. It is important to contact the Development Office prior to delivering any gift of tangible, personal property to the school. In-Kind Gifts In-kind gifts are nonmonetary contributions given for use at the school. The Development Office assigns no dollar value to these gifts, but does furnish a gift receipt. It is the responsibility of the donor and his/her tax advisor to assign a value to this gift for tax purposes. Matching Gifts Matching gifts occur when participating companies match the amount of dollars given by employees or retirees. The company gives a gift only after the donor has made his/her gift and completed the company’s matching gift form. Planned Giving Webb School also welcomes gifts with a deferred benefit, such as remainder trusts, gifts of life insurance, or bequests in wills. Contact the Development Office with questions.

2016 Committee Members Erika Nadaud – Chair Virginia Bailey – Patron’s Party, Outreach Committee Jennifer Bruner – Artists in Action Coordinator Danielle Nutt – Artist Selection/Liaison, Outreach Committee Celebrating its 16th year, ArtXtravaganza 2016, March 4-6, was a resounding success. Highlighting more than 2,000 original artworks by 70 acclaimed artists hailing from the Southeast and beyond, Webb’s annual art show and sale raised a net profit of more than $32,000. For the second year in a row, ArtXtravaganza kicked off with a Patron’s Party, providing guests with an exclusive look at the works by this year’s participating artists. Guests also bid on collaborative artworks by Lower School students and enjoyed tasty hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and drinks provided by Dead End BBQ, the Tomato Head, Holly’s Gourmet’s Market & Cafe, Dulce Knox, Beverage Control, Inc., and Cherokee Distributing Company. Metal artist Preston Farabow of Knoxville and mixed media painter Sarah Kaufman of Nashville were the featured artists. Farabow owns and operates Aespyre at Ironwood Studios and has produced commissioned metal works for a diverse range of clients, including the State of Tennessee, Bristol Motor Speedway, the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Tribe, Red Bull, and numerous private collections. His latest undertaking is a nonprofit school of metalworking with a curriculum designed for at-risk populations. Kaufman approaches her mixed media paintings from both an artistic and storytelling perspective, producing often magical and ethereal textured pieces that explore various aspects of the human experience. She is an award-winning artist whose work is in several corporate and private collections, nationally and internationally.
One of the premier art shows in the Southeast, ArtXtravaganza continues to play a major role in establishing Knoxville as a community aligned with the arts. Reflecting Webb’s tradition of fostering community by enhancing lives through art education and appreciation, ArtXtravaganza helps fund Webb’s visual and performing arts program and the arts at Mooreland Heights Elementary, an arts-integrated public school supported by the Tennessee Arts Commission.

The show again included a student art exhibition, featuring pieces by Webb Lower, Middle, and Upper School grades, artworks by children from Mooreland Heights Elementary, and a joint art project by Webb and Mooreland Heights elementary students. Art show visitors were also treated to performances by the Webb Dance Academy.

Webbfest 2015 Committee Members
Everyone had a rootin’, tootin’ good time at the 2015 WEBBFEST CORRAL! Celebrating the wild, wild west (West Knoxville, that is), student buckaroos enjoyed a whole stampede of activities throughout the week of September 21-25. Webb School’s annual Webbfest celebration fosters a sense of community among Webb students, faculty, staff, families, and friends of the school, and serves as a fundraiser for designated school projects. WEBBFEST CORRAL was a mighty-fine, four-day adventure filled with skits, dress-up days, estimation jars, raffle baskets, bake sales, ice-cream sundaes, photo booths, and even some “do-si-do” line dancing! The biggest shindig was on Friday with the WEBBFEST CORRAL Carnival, Rock the Clock, and tasty fixin’s at the BBQ dinner, held for the first time in Webb’s renovated cafeteria—the Spartan Bistro. WEBBFEST CORRAL raised more than $14,000 to help support Webb’s Fulfilling the Promise Campaign, which funded the new Haslam Center, the Upper School Westside project, the Strachan Family Weight Training Facility, the Boyd Courtyard of Sparta, and the Shannon Miller Boruff Pavilion at the Lower School. Of course, WEBBFEST CORRAL wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing work of our incredible volunteers. Our hats go off to 2015 Webbfest chair, Angie Johnson, and the whole herd of folks who put in their time and energy to make WEBBFEST CORRAL a downright hootin’, hollerin’ hit!
