The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is responsible for commemorating members of the armed forces of the Commonwealth who died during the two world wars and for the care of their graves and memorials throughout the world. Canada is one of six partner governments which make up the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the others being the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India. Newfoundland was a full and equal partner in the Commission until it became Canada's tenth province in 1949, when its status as a separate Dominion ceased.
