A LOOK BACK: 2012-13 2012-13 FINAL ASSOCIATED PRESS POLL IDAHO FALLS TO UCONN IN NCAA TOURNAMENT The Huskies went on a 12-0 run before Idaho got on the board, and UConn never looked back in a 105-37 win over the Vandals in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Idaho, which earned an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time in 28 years, ended its season with a 17-16 record. The Huskies shot 61 percent from the field and 50 percent (11-of-22) from three-point range, while Idaho hit just 26 percent of its shots and 8-of-26 three-pointers (31 percent). The Huskies forced Idaho into 21 turnovers, while committing only six. UConn out-rebounded Idaho 45-23, including 12-6 on the offensive end, and the Huskies blocked eight shots, compared to Idaho’s three. Stacey Barr led Idaho with 14 points on 4-of-9 three-point shooting, and Jessica Graham scored eight points in her final game at Idaho. Alyssa Charlston had six points, two rebounds, two assists, three blocks and a steal. SEATTLE U FALLS TO SAINT MARY’S IN FIRST ROUND OF WNIT The Redhawks weren’t able to overcome an early deficit in their first-ever appearance in the WNIT, falling at Saint Mary’s in the first round, 68-51. The Gaels shot 39 percent from the field and a blazing 58 percent from three-point range, while Seattle U connected on 28 percent from the field and 21 percent from beyond the arc. Saint Mary’s also nearly doubled the Redhawks in rebounds, 54-29. Sylvia Shephard led the Redhawks with 20 points and five steals, and Kacie Sowell recorded her 17th double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. UTAH STATE FALLS TO SOUTH DAKOTA IN FIRST ROUND OF WBI Utah State could not overcome a 9-0 South Dakota run in the second half as the Aggies lost to the Coyotes, 77-69, in the first round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational to end its season with an 18-14 record. Jennifer Schlott netted a team-high 25 points, tallying 18 in the second half, as well as dished out eight assists, one shy of her career high. Devyn Christensen added 16 points, while Jenna Johnson grabbed 13 rebounds and had a career-high five blocked shots. IDAHO CLAIMS 2013 WAC TOURNAMENT Idaho defeated top-seeded Seattle U 67-64 to win its first WAC Tournament title in school history. Tournament MVP Stacey Barr finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. The third-seeded Vandals defeated No. 6-seed San Jose State (84-82) and second-seeded Utah State (6764) in earlier rounds of the tournament.
