GIRLS Chris Scott (8th year) 12-13 Record: 19-9 Outlook: Basketball is exciting for the Lady Buffaloes who return all five starters from last season’s 19-9 campaign. A speedy trio of guards consistently forces turnovers and baskets in transition including the play of point guard Ray’Shionne Smith (11.3ppg/4.5asst), Sarah Simpson (9.2ppg/3.5reb) and Torrii Tarkington (8.1ppg/5.0reb/4asst). Athleticism is evident with the play of forwards Teila Fleeks (4.2ppg) and Beautiful Brown (5.1ppg/5.0reb). “Experience is a plus for us this year,” said head coach Chris Scott. “Our speed and athleticism gives us plenty of options including ball pressure end to end that results in scoring chances.” Sarah Simpson 5-6 Teila Fleeks 5-6 Megan Huffman 5-6 Ray’shionne Smith 5-5 Torrii Tarkington 5-6 Beautiful Brown 5-6

BOYS Darnell Shanklin (26th year) 12-13 Record: 21-7 Outlook: The Buffaloes trip to last year’s Class 3A state tournament leaves this year’s team ready to complete unfinished business. Coach Darnell Shanklin’s squad returns two starters but will maintain the traditional style of play approach. “Nothing’s changed, up-tempo and next man up,” said Shanklin. “We’ll play catch up early due to football and go from there.” The Buffaloes lineup will again showcase the multi-talents of VYPE Top 100 Trey Johnson surrounded by seven other seniors that are determined to complete the job in 2013-2014. Joining the guard play will be Amaney Jackson, Nigel Smith Wilshon McAlester and Walter Pintado while the inside presence of forwards Jordan Stafford, Arkyl Brown and Jared Bailey will command play off the boards. “Our schedule is filled with the top teams from the larger classes. It’s an approach that has paid dividend for us when the

Trey Johnson Hugo playoffs roll around.”
