VANDERBILT STADIUM
Vanderbilt Stadium Home Since 1981 All of the Commodores' home games will be played in Vanderbilt Stadium, their on-campus venue for the last 29 years. The stadium, with a capacity of 39,773, was opened in 1981 on the same site as Dudley Field, which stood at the corner of Jess Neely Drive and Natchez Trace since 1922. Though the old stadium was demolished prior to the 1981 project, the Commodores continue to play on the original Dudley Field surface. In recent years, the stadium has been given an exterior renovation. An expansion concourse, two gate entrances and a plaza outside Gate 2 were introduced in 2009, one year after crews began an exterior paint and brick effort to unity the three largest athletic facilities on campus: Vanderbilt Stadium, Hawkins Field and Memorial Gymnasium. In addition, an on-going building project calls for an thorough refurblishing of Gate 1 near the Marriott Vanderbilt. The Dudley Field playing surface has been natural grass since 1999.
