STRAY CAT FLOWER FARM: Diana Doll’s personal passion for flowers blossomed into a business in the winter of 1988. One chilly day, she ventured out on a crosscountry skiing expedition for fresh materials to create custom winter wreaths. The following spring she began sowing, growing, and drying flowers. BEFORE THE RING. Lauren Evans always had a crush on Matt Wells, a handsome, friendly guy a year ahead of her at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Over the years, the pair moved in the same circles, and though Lauren didn’t know it, Matt harbored a secret crush, too. One night on campus, Lauren caught the wrong bus home and found herself face-to-face with Matt. The couple chatted, and he finally asked her on a date. Over dinner, sparks flew, and Matt confessed he’d been planning to “accidentally” take Lauren’s bus home. Collegiate courtship blossomed into true love, and the rest was history. THE PROPOSAL. In the fall of 2011, Matt planned a weekend retreat to the
couple’s favorite getaway, Nantucket. They arrived on the island, dropped their bags off at the inn, and set out to visit their favorite spots. From the Cisco Brewery out to Great Point, Lauren was completely unsuspecting, until they returned to the Wauwinet instead of the inn where they’d left their luggage. “I had always wanted to stay there — it was so beautiful and elegant,” Lauren remembers. Matt led his sweetheart to the hotel’s luxe library, where a vintage box filled with mementos from their relationship waited. “Will you fill this box with me?” he asked on bended knee. THE DAY & DESIGN. Sharing a love of crafting, the couple and their families worked together to bring every detail of the day to life. “We spent the year before poking through antique shops and hand-cutting confetti in our wedding workshop,” Lauren says. “All of the memories we created getting ready for the big day made our wedding all the more special.” The pair drew inspiration from natural wood textures and antique accessories to channel the rustic romance of the locale. Books and maps accented tables topped with burlap and fresh ivory and peach blossoms, as Scrabble letters spelling out meaningful locations added a playful twist.

BEFORE THE RING. A twist of fate and a long wait brought Kelly Broznya and Matt Journalist together. Kelly, a student at Boston College, found herself stuck in line on a busy Saturday night at Ned Devine’s Pub. Her company was a friendly stranger and recent Eagles alum, Matt. Over conversation to pass the time, something special sparked. The couple stayed in touch over the years, and when Kelly graduated and moved to New York City, they visited back and forth. “Eventually, it was obvious we were meant to be,” Kelly says. “Matt moved to the city, and we never looked back.” THE PROPOSAL. One crisp day in Manhattan, the couple took a leisurely
stroll through Central Park, enjoying the fresh air and lush gardens. With marriage on his mind, Matt led Kelly deeper into the park. In the heart of the city that had played such an important role in their love story, Matt got down on bended knee to ask Kelly to be his wife. Kelly, caught completely off-guard but thrilled to her core, could only say, “Yes.” The pair wound their way back through the park hand-in-hand, eager to return home and share the happy news with their favorite people. Inspired by the lush scenery surrounding the farm, the couple chose a bright palette of petal pinks, purples, and oranges to enliven the more neutral hues of taupe and ivory. Tea light candles in mason jars welcomed guests to the barn with an inviting glow, and cream linens draped simple tablescapes topped with fresh blooms and birch-bark accessories. THE PROPOSAL. One night, while Michael was still in business school, he
staged a mock double-date with a classmate and asked Kristen to be ready at his apartment for a nice night on the town. Planning a heartfelt and personal proposal, he was dismayed when Kristen arrived with her brother, Ryan, in tow. “Kristen hates surprises, so I knew I couldn’t put her on the spot in front of anyone,” Michael said. “It had to be a special moment between just us.” Slyly slipping Ryan some cab fare, Michael seized their moment alone and asked Kristen to be his wife.

THE DAY & DESIGN. Dreaming of a day infused with elegance and seasonal
splendor, Kristen and Michael celebrated their “I dos” with an eco-chic fete. “We wanted to keep things simple to highlight Vermont’s natural beauty,” Kristen says. And so began the design of their sophisticated soiree with a rustic twist, a celebration crafted to strike the perfect balance between organic and elegant. It was important to the couple to make their special day locally and environmentally sustainable. “From seasonal flowers to reusable decor details, it was a priority to keep things low-impact,” Kristen says. The rich interior of the solar-powered Hermitage Inn glowed with warm candlelight, as mercury-glass vases dotted tables topped with pops of pink and peach blooms. The intimate affair was complete with a Polaroid sign-in station, where guests snapped instant photos and left happy wishes for the newlyweds.

THE PROPOSAL. Sharing a love for the outdoors, Jenny and Matt decided to spend a lazy summer afternoon fishing on Fairfield Pond. Out in the middle of the crystal-clear water, Matt was anxiously waiting for just the right moment to make his move when a ladybug landed on his shoulder. “I knew they were a sign of good luck, and that was my moment,” Matt says. THE DAY & DESIGN. Inspired by the little ladybug that provoked Matt’s proposal, the couple carried a “lucky in love” theme throughout their special day. A vintage marquee feature spelling out LOVE welcomed guests to the barn reception, as glass orbs hung overhead from the eaves, giving the entire space a wonderfully warm glow. “We wanted a combination of natural elements with glam props,” Jenny says. Family photos and heirlooms dotted the decor, as barnboard table runners, apothecary vases, moss, and succulents gave the design a hand-hewn aesthetic. Driftwood tree lounge seating, a diy project, completed the country-chic vibe.

They first met under the harsh beam of a surgical lamp, working together in the operating room of Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. On Saturday evening, loved ones gathered beneath the eaves of the Riverside Farm barn for an elegant affair with personal touches. “Our color palette was inspired by the fall foliage,” Cara says. “We wanted a rustic feel with an elegant edge.” Mismatched china and an old-fashioned typewriter made for romantic accessories, and antique keys served as seating assignments to complete the time-worn elegance and vintage whimsy of the day.

THE PROPOSAL. Back in the Northeast, Laura was finishing up a particularly
difficult semester of graduate school. After her last accounting exam, Laura met Sam to check in on her parents’ home, which they were house-sitting. “As we were leaving, Sam stopped me in the mudroom. This was the place we shared so many long goodbyes as teenagers,” Laura says. “After seven years of hellos and goodbyes there, he asked me to marry him. It was so personal and so perfect.”

BEFORE THE RING. Laura French and Sam Rigby grew up together in the same quaint New Hampshire town. Sam attended boarding school away from home, and didn’t meet Laura until they were both nineteen. Young love was in the air as they got acquainted through mutual friends, and when Laura left to attend Bates College in Maine, Sam followed less than a year later. Their teenage romance blossomed into life-long love. After graduation and a few years of long distance, the couple moved to Chile together. Traveling from South America to Texas and Maryland, they came full circle and returned to New England.

THE DAY & DESIGN. Bright and colorful with homespun accents, Laura and Sam’s wedding was a roaring celebration rife with personal touches. “We wanted our special day to be fun and genuinely us,” Laura says. “To make that happen, I spent a lot of time on diy details to make our personalities shine through.” Opting out of a traditional color scheme, the pair chose a collection of vibrant colors with white floral arrangements to add an air of elegance. Golden party animal escort cards welcomed guests to the celebration, as rainbow ribbon runners and yarn-wrapped table numbers continued the theme of playful whimsy. Guests enjoyed late-night snacks of grilled cheese, sweet potato fries, and popcorn as the evening ended with a bonfire, capping off a night full of love and laughter.

BEFORE THE RING. When Diana Martinez set foot on Columbia University’s historic campus, little did she know her someone special was just around the corner. She met Owen Cornwall while planning a conference for fellow classmates and professors. They were both pursuing their PhDs and clicked instantly. It was no question Diana left a lasting impression, as a fast friendship resulted in many late-night study sessions and coffee dates. Getting to know each other over the books, Diana and Owen’s casual courtship blossomed into everlasting love. THE PROPOSAL. When Owen realized Diana was the woman he wanted
to spend his life with, he knew just the place to pop the question. Inspired by his sweetheart’s love of architecture, he planned to propose in her favorite building in New York City, Grand Central Terminal, followed by a celebratory dinner at her favorite restaurant, Blue Hill at Stone Barns. For weeks he eagerly anticipated the special day, until he couldn’t wait any longer. “Owen was so excited, he proposed to me four days before the big date in our cozy apartment,” Diana says. “We were able to enjoy the celebratory activities without any nerves —it was absolutely amazing.” THE DAY & DESIGN. The couple’s celebration at Owen’s family home was the essence of country-chic, with antique accessories and diy decor. Inspired by the natural and neutral hues of the Vermont landscape, Diana and Owen chose a color palette of soft ivory and cool green with pops of dusty rose. Fresh blooms spilled from vintage pewter vases onto weathered wood tables, topped with linen table runners and radish bulb favors. Guests were guided to their seats by cardboard-tag place cards, whimsically tied to an oak tree. “The most important details of our day were those we made ourselves,” Diana says. From invitations to menus, the bride designed all of the paper goods, completing the personal sentiments of the day.
