ENHANCED STUDENT VILLANOVA WOMEN’S PROFESSIONAL NETWORK The Villanova Women’s Professional Network (VWPN) was formed within VSB and includes various women’s initiatives and support from across the University, including all of the other colleges as well as alumnae and students. The committee sponsors and supports events designed to connect Villanova women and encourage their professional growth and development. The VWPN sponsored several events including industry roundtables, notable speaker Pamela Ryckman, who authored Stiletto Network: Inside the Women’s Power Circles That Are Changing the Face of Business, alumnae planning meetings in Boston and New York, student and alumnae workshops, the Women in Business Conference and several other events.

VILLANOVA SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

MENTOR PROGRAM The Clay Center at VSB implemented a pilot Mentor Program, which paired VSB sophomore women and VSB alumnae volunteers to provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and information about professional, interpersonal and career-related issues, as well as to build a bridge between the classroom and the business world. Stemming from the success of the VWPN’s engagement of alumnae, more than 100 sophomores were matched with alumnae, and two events during the academic year brought students and mentors together. The mentorship program underscores the importance and strength of the extended Villanova community. It also gives our alumnae an outlet for serving our undergraduate population as they navigate their futures. Plans to expand the program to include male students are underway.

T EXPERIENCE DIGITAL MEDIA STUDIO VSB opened a digital media studio that accommodates produced lecture recording for distance learning and augmented course content, media relations and flipped classroom delivery models. This space is open for the entire University community to use.

CLASSROOMS OF THE FUTURE One of our goals was to build a Technology Center on the first floor of Bartley Hall. The Technology Center opened in the fall of 2013 and is a popular space for classes, group work and study time. The center supports collaborative work spaces, touch screens and BYOD-ready displays. These allow working groups to display content wirelessly from a laptop or mobile device. The room is lecture-capture capable and also supports live streaming and remote viewing of classes.

VSB continually advances the student experience. In just the past year, we’ve developed multiple new student support services.

ST. THOMAS OF VILLANOVA SCHOLARS PROGRAM Over the past few years, diversity of the incoming VSB undergraduate class has increased (this includes first generation students), but we continue to struggle with retention of these students. The Clay Center partnered with the Office of Institutional Advancement and Center for Multicultural Affairs to offer a summer program modeled after the successful University St. Thomas of Villanova Scholars program (STOVS). This year—in addition to the three-week college prep math course that took place in July—the eight participating VSB students also enrolled in a credit-bearing microeconomics course. VSB STOVS students also participated in workshops to help them adjust to the academic and social life on campus. They also learned and practiced networking skills through a career panel, networking receptions, an etiquette dinner and a visit to the EY offices in Philadelphia.

OVER THE PAST YEAR VSB EMBARKED ON AN AMBITIOUS EFFORT TO EXPAND DISTANCE LEARNING OPTIONS. WE LAUNCHED TWO NEW GRADUATE ONLINE PROGRAMS – the online MBA program

and the online Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) program. These new programs are offered in addition to the partially online Master of Accountancy and fully online Master of Science in Church Management programs.

THE ONLINE MBA is a new addition to VSB’s highly-ranked part-time MBA program. Students will now have the option to complete the Villanova MBA in one of three program tracks – the Online Track, the Flex Track or the Fast Track. With the online MBA, students earn the very same Villanova MBA – with the same curriculum, taught by the same faculty – in a convenient and flexible online format. It also includes a residency in the first or second semester and an international immersion trip to an emerging market.

THE ONLINE MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ANALYTICS PROGRAM is VSB’s newest graduate business offering and is available in an online format only. It is designed to expose students to the whole analytics continuum from data collection through analysis through implementation and use. It teaches students critical analytics skills and transforms them into business analysts prepared to assist organizations in developing and sustaining a unique competitive advantage. “The MSA program was specifically designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed to become a professional analyst,” said Matthew Liberatore, the John F. Connelly Chair in Management and Director of VSB’s Center for Business Analytics. “It addresses how to identify, capture, process and analyze the data needed to gain key insights that will enable organizations to improve their processes and decision making.”
