MATTHEW SMALL Matthew Small is a passionate believer in social inclusion and that, given the opportunities to be heard and respected, all individuals have something of value to contribute to society. As an artist Matthew wants to change the negative pre conceptions of the people he feels are misunderstood. By painting young marginalized figures of society he allows the viewer to spend time with these people in the hope that a shared a sense of humanity, unrestricted by class and social boundaries, will arise. Matthew’s artwork is a product of the urban environment. Collecting discarded obsolete objects he reappropriates these found materials into his portraits creating industrious sculptural constructions and canvases for his paintings. These materials become integral in contributing to the ethos within his work.

RICHARD TWOSE Ethereal yet edgy, Richard Twose’s paintings elicit a quiet stillness through their subtle use of colour and composition. Mysterious figures, spatial distortion and unusual perspectives all combine to create his fascinating scenes. Richard was runner up in the BP Portrait Award 2014, adding further demand for portrait commissions and exhibition work. We are proud to continue to regularly show new work at View, both in our exhibitions and at art fairs. Twose has a talent for seeing beneath our complexities to unveil the hidden personality of his subjects. With hints to mythology and symbols, we the viewer, ultimately want to know more.

DAN HILLIER Dan Hillier is acclaimed for his black line engravings that embody the ‘Steampunk’ aesthetic, combining Victorian sensibilities with a fascination for animal attributes. His work is characterized by depictions of fantastical human/animal hybrids, spliced together from late-1800s imagery. These beautiful, classically rooted images find their power in their unsettling effect, as they seamlessly blur distinctions normally implied by reality. Hillier’s subjects depict portraits of an inner being, opening the gateway into the curious and mystical. These spell binding, ornate images linger in the imagination transporting the viewer into a new world.

DAMIAN DALY Enchanting, unnerving and exquisite, Damian Daly’s work is a constant source of intrigue. Inspired by a wide range of influences, from memories and his subconscious to sci-fi and comic books, Daly’s imagination is captivating. Having nothing but a vague theme in mind before he begins Daly’s work evolves organically resulting drawings that always retain an element of that they emit. The beauty behind Daly’s art is how it inspires viewer participation. The detailed layers of narrative mean that the audience are on a continuous journey of discovery, constantly able to unearth new elements and points of intrigue. Combining a total freedom of expression with incredible technical ability Daly’s drawings will transport you to another realm.

JOSHUA BOWE Josh Bowe’s work, although primarily figurative, represents an on-going investigation into the fundamentals of representation and abstraction. At once complex and intuitive, his paintings combine form, colour and texture to create a strong sense of vigour and dynamism, the contrasting figurative and abstract pictorial elements stimulating the viewer to see familiar subjects in fresh and challenging ways. This series of paintings peel back the skin of the sitter and penetrate the psyche through an expressive application of paint. The subjects appear to be in a state of internal dialogue over a possible action/scenario they have manifested, or witnessed.

SHERROD BARNES-GINIFER Sherrod Barnes-Ginnifer’s dynamic, figurative abstracts are intuitively sculpted to express and intensify feelings generated by touch and relationships. The subject of much of Sherrod’s work is the challenge in life to simultaneoulsy love and feel free. Seeking escape from constraints, she therefore creates figures that move, dance, fly and fall through space. These Sensual, lyrical sculptures celebrate masculine and feminine form through abstraction. Swollen, rounded curves long for touch with desire bordering androgynistic hedonism. The precarious balance and movement emphasizes the fragility of life. This new collection depicts figures in sumptuous flesh like forms which precariously balance on top of one another creating an over all harmonious elative feeling. The eye feels and explores these figurative forms wrapping around its curves and crevasses.

STUART MITCHELL Working with a diverse range of media Stuart Mitchell creates otherworldly paintings, prints, animation and installations. His interests lie in the extreme experiences of those who live at the edges of societies and cultures. Ideas of abnormality and alienation are often central to his work. His portraits in oil evolve through exploration of existing imagery, observation and subconscious input, developing into rich works of imagination.

TIM PAVIER Expressive movement, dynamic subject matter and subtle tones, Tim Pavier’s art is a combination of unique qualities. His subject matter deals predominantly with human perception and how unseen concepts such as sound and motion can be perceived. Tim’s creative practice begins by taking photographs in motion, causing his subjects to appear “jaggedly and rapidly twisting.” By using photographs as a reference to paint, he drains the captured motion from the camera onto the work surface and then fits the image to reach the archetype of motion in his mind. This distortion of his fascinating figures and scenes create unusual shapes and expressions, which are simultaneously unnerving and intriguing. The results are a hybrid of technological and anatomical perception.

CHINA MIKE Illustrating the unstoppable ticking of time, Bristol based artist, China Mike’s extraordinary paintings are a unique combination of abstraction and figuration. Beginning his creative career illustrating for record labels and clothing lines, his unique style soon became distinctive. Saturated with colour, Mike’s paintings fluctuate between clearly defined figures and hollow outlines. His subject matter will not cease to intrigue, at times dark and mysterious, his images are not limited by routine. Prepare to see anything from robotic looking portraits, to distorted children walking a dog.

EDWARD TAYLOR Influential to all of Edwards work is the world around him. The places, objects and news stories he hears and see’s everyday absorb and manifest into his surreal collection of drawings. This collection reflects the nature of the small vignettes coalescing into a larger picture. Edward also combines objects that clash or wouldn’t/couldn’t occur naturally. This style arose from wanting to include all of his interests, experiences and thoughts into a series of works, a formalised doodle that map the thought process.
