WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON
working in partnership
Welcome to our 2016 Autumn season.
whole host of top quality tribute acts covering all artists from ABBA to Elvis.
This August we welcome Bill Kenwright’s Rehearsal for Murder; a production which has one of the most impressive casts I’ve seen in a touring production lately. The show is fantastic and truly a night of top quality entertainment which you would expect to only find in London’s West End. I’m delighted that Bill has agreed to bring this production to us and urge all to come and see it.
The little ones are kept busy this season with Aliens Love Underpants, Ministry of Science Live and Gangsta Granny. Showing us the way to his Golden Anniversary Tour, Tony Christie arrives this November with a night of greatest hits and some of his recent hits too.
Across the season we welcome back Playhouse favourites Jethro, Chas & Dave, That’ll Be The Day, Joe Longthorne, Ken Dodd, The Syd Lawrence Orchestra, The Sensational 60’s Experience and Charlie Landsborough, amongst others. In addition to Rehearsal for Murder, Bill Kenwright also brings us Save the Last Dance for Me direct from London’s West End. The fantastic feel good professional musical production is the perfect way to celebrate the summer as we’re transported back to music’s golden era - the summer of 63. Packed with some of the biggest hits from the 60’s this is definitely a show which should be at the top of your list for the summer period. Also, in September completing his triple show season we welcome the last Kenwright production for 2016, The smash hit Shawshank Redemption. Arguably one of the greatest films of our time, the stage adaption is truly spectacular and one of the best nights of entertainment you’ll have. Guaranteed! For those looking to get up and dance the night away we have a wealth of musical talent to keep you tapping along. A few highlights being The Real Thing, Nathan Carter, Jimmy Osmond, The Solid Gold Rock n Roll show, The Manfreds and The Stylistics plus a
Star of 8 out of 10 cats and Live at the Apollo, Rob Beckett arrives this season with his Mouth of the South tour! A must for all fans of live comedy. After all of these top quality productions and the many more featured within this season we arrive in December and what better way to celebrate the festive period than with a tale as old as time. Our production of Beauty and the Beast arrives as this year’s pantomime and we’ve been busy ensuring that it’s the best it can be. This year we’ve managed to secure one of the UK’s leading pantomime writers to develop the script, a massive set and a fantastic cast headed up by none other than Only Fools and Horses’ John Challis. Book early to avoid disappointment. On a personal note I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of our venue. We’re trying to ensure that we continuously push the boundaries of our town’s home of live entertainment and we couldn’t do it without you all - so thank you! Don’t forget to check our new website out which has been developed to ensure that your online process is much smoother than previously. Mark Thompson General Manager

THE TELEGRAPH
Following the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, which sold over two million tickets and continually played to packed houses around the UK, Bill Kenwright presents a new production from the pen of the legendary awardwinning writing team Levinson and Link, whose work includes the mystery series Murder, She Wrote and Columbo. The star cast features screen heart-throb GARY MAVERS of Peak Practice and Casualty fame and fresh from playing the evil Gordon Livesy in Emmerdale. Stage and screen leading man, ALEX FERNS, who gripped the nation playing the villainous Trevor Morgan in EastEnders, is joined by SUSIE AMY best known for playing the much loved Chardonnay in the ITV series Footballers’ Wives. Joining them will be chart-topper ANITA HARRIS, whose films include the Carry On franchise, pop-idol MARK WYNTER, who since his hit-parade days has featured in no fewer than seven Agatha Christie Theatre Company productions, LAUREN DRUMMOND from Holby City and BEN NEALON from ITV’s award winning drama Soldier Soldier. Playwright Alex Dennison is left heartbroken when his fiancée and leading lady Monica Welles is found dead from an apparent suicide. On the anniversary of that ill-fated night, Alex assembles the same cast and crew in the same theatre, for a reading of his new play. But as the reading begins, it becomes clear that Alex believes that Monica was murdered and he intends to uncover her killer...

“GREAT MUSIC AND FANTASTIC ENERGY OF A WONDERFUL CAST” PP ARNOLD
In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas. The sharpest Mod of all was known as a ‘FACE’. The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm ‘n’ Blues. This ‘Mod’ Musical is a trans-generational musical experience celebrating the unique sound of the iconic Mod band, The Small Faces. Featuring the music of the Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, All Or Nothing, Tin Soldier, Lazy Sunday, Shar La La La Lee and Itchycoo Park.
