HOW IT’S MADE PLASTIC BOTTLE BEADS A unique Vi Bella design, these beads are handmade by our Haitian artisans by using recycled plastic bottles. Bottles are sanitized, cut into strips and painted, then heat is used to finish the rolled beads. It takes skill and patience to transform discarded bottles that litter the landscape into something beautiful and new.
PAPER BEADS Our artisans in Mexico & Haiti specialize in these handmade beads. Newspaper and magazines are cut, rolled on wooden skewers, and then sealed to make beads in various shapes and sizes. They are then painted and finished in various ways to create beautiful designs. It takes a keen eye and a steady hand to transform discarded paper into beautiful beads that tell a story of redemption.
BOTTLE CAP BEADS Metal bottle caps are recycled by our artisans in Mexico, molded to create a large, rounded bead. The bead is then covered in lightweight paper and finished with enamel. These upcycled creations are perfect to create a statement while still being lightweight.
METAL ART Haiti has long been known for creating art by recycling metal oil drums. The drums are cut down the middle and manually flattened. Then designs are intricately created using a hammer and chisel. The result is beautiful up-cycled metal art.
HAND STAMPING & BEADING Hand stamping is used by our artisans to imprint letters onto the surface of metal. When using this technique, not every letter will line up exactly, creating a rustic, individual look to each handmade piece. Hand-beading is a tedious and time-consuming method of stringing individual beads on wire. This process creates intricate, detailed designs that compliment many Vi Bella pieces.
DENIM Every pair of jeans has a story and in the hands of our artisans their story lives on beautifully. We bring new life to recycled denim fabric and seams to create unique flower pins, handbags, and other accessories. Slight variations in color may occur as each creation is one of a kind.

Welcome to The Vi Bella Story! This catalog holds more than collections of beautiful handmade jewelry and accessories. It is a collection of beautiful stories that have brought redemption and restoration to our artisans and their communities. Vi Bella means “Beautiful Life”. Our company began in 2011 when my heart was broken wide open for families living in extreme poverty in Haiti. The stories of those I met were beautiful in spite of their desperate living conditions. I felt drawn to be part of their lives by providing steady work that would assure food, shelter, and education to families in communities where jobs were so scarce. Our story didn’t stop in Haiti. With two centers operational there, Vi Bella expanded to the small village of Pesqueria, Mexico. We also employ women in transitional housing near our home office in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Vi Bella story has grown to provide employment, education, and opportunity to more than 30 artisans in Haiti, Mexico, and right here in the United States. In this year’s collection we’ve also partnered for the first time with organizations that provide employment in India and Ecuador. I am excited to introduce ten brand new collections of jewelry in this 2016 catalog. Our commitment from day one has been to not only provide beautiful lives for our artisans, but to create jewelry that is on-trend and wearable for every generation. “Now, I have a full-time job making jewelry!” Filane started with Vi Bella cleaning part-time at the Simonette Center. As Vi Bella grew and needed to hire more artisans, we offered Filane a position making jewelry and she eagerly accepted! Filane has three children who are now able to go to school. She also has another very special connection inside Vi Bella. Her sister Fredane also works at the same center making jewelry. Filane brings a lot of energy into the work space making each day a little more beautiful.

I am the seed planted here, and God is reaping and harvesting me towards my destiny.” Aniose has been with Vi Bella since our beginning year. She also works at Vi Bella to help provide her household with the necessities. “My favorite part of working at Vi Bella is that I don’t have to worry about where to leave my son when I go to work. Vi Bella Manager Pesqueria, Mexico David is the Vi Bella site manager for our team in Pesqueria, Mexico. “The first time we talked about partnering with Vi Bella, both my wife and I felt very at peace.” David found that Vi Bella has created safe places for women in need to work, relate, create, and learn together. It is important that the women learn new skills and are able work rather than just to receive a hand out. Having a safe place for women to work with each other and learn about Christ on a weekly basis is what it’s all about. “We have witnessed how the lives of the ladies that work with us have been positively changed,” says David. Our artisans are able to provide for their families and take great pride in the work that they do. “We share our lives with them, and in doing so, we get to share about how Christ has loved us in such a way, that we too should learn how to love our neighbor as ourselves.”

Julie Hulstein, Vi Bella’s Founder and CEO was part of mission trips to Haiti after the devastating earthquake of 2010. What she witnessed stirred her heart to create opportunities and empowerment. Pesqueria Vi Bella is writing a story of redemption in Mexico. Our artisans here are skilled in creating paper beads and our signature bottle cap beads, reclaiming the landscape as well as their lives. At Vi Bella’s center in the village of Pesqueria, Mexico, ten artisans enjoy steady work close to their homes, a strong sense of community, and the opportunity to attend Bible studies. After school programs have also been supported by Vi Bella for the
children of our artisans. “I have grown spiritually and I want the same thing for others in my community” says Susi. Her employment has allowed her to provide for her family. “I think one of the most important things that Vi Bella is doing here is to care for families on a very personal level.” says David, our site manager in Mexico. The Bible studies, and the personal relationships that we have made with each artisan are directed and targeted so that the ladies are able to feel God´s love and acceptance in every level of their lives.

Sioux Center, Iowa Vi Bella’s home office is located in Sioux Center, Iowa. Here our USA staff creates jewelry designs & connects with ambassadors and customers. Our team also oversees marketing, shipping and partnership development. We also employ several women who have been referred to us through local agencies. Beyond the packaged jewelry and new designs that line the walls at our USA home office in Iowa, you may hear the clacking of metal work and witness the quiet and concentrated presence of La Princia, a full-time Vi Bella employee. La Princia began as a volunteer with Vi Bella during a tremendously difficult time in her young life. As part of a transitional living program she was encouraged to volunteer. She
What began as a few volunteer shifts each month turned into a full-time job in jewelry creation. In addition to earning a steady income doing something she loves , the Vi Bella staff became an extended family and a gathering of cheerleaders as she forged a life for herself and her daughter. Through the support of the Vi Bella staff and her employment with us, La Princia reached the goal of earning her GED. She has also moved out of the transitional housing center into her own home. “I’m not scared now to do what’s right. I used to be so scared to be on my own, but I’m paying my own rent and my favorite place is being home with my daughter, relaxing. I finally have peace.” We celebrate the beautiful life La Princia has created for herself and her daughter. We are honored that Vi Bella has been part of making their dreams a reality.

Vi Bella Manager Simonette, Haiti Pierre, affectionately nicknamed Gerard, is one of the men Vi Bella employs. He is a gentle and kind man who loves his job. His favorite part of the job is making wirewrapped earrings, and “I’m good at it,” he says. Gerard has six children, three of whom are living in Florida. He works hard to support his family, providing them with food, shelter, clothing and a good education. “Because I have a job, I have a reason to get up in the morning. Now, I can send my daughter Charlene to college.” Gerard enjoys helping at the local school, watching sports like soccer and basketball, and building things with his own hands.”Before this job, I had nothing to do. Vi Bella Artisan Simonette, Haiti “My job has allowed me to repair the damage the earthquake did to my house.” Fredane has been working with Vi Bella since February of 2013. She has four children and a niece she provides for. “This is the first job I’ve ever had! Having a job to go to encourages me.” Fredane feels blessed to have a job that provides for her and her family’s daily needs in addition to repairing her home that was devastated by the earthquake in 2010.

Her dream became a reality by simply reaching out to friends and family to sell Vi Bella Jewelry. What cause is close to your heart? Kristin Smith, a Vi Bella Ambassador organized a quick and easy fundraiser by selling Vi Bella Jewelry through her local MOPs (Motherâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s of Preschoolers) Group. She shares: â&#x20AC;&#x153; I just distributed Vi Bella catalogs and packets of information to our group members and together we sold more than $14,000 in jewelry! Our group was able to use 30% of the total sales to provide scholarships, financial assistance, and support to mothers in our community. It was such a wonderful feeling to raise funds for local moms while knowing that we were also equipping women in Mexico and Haiti to be the moms they were longing to be for their children. Fundraisers are a win/win and Vi Bella is very generous to offer this option for non-profits, charities or groups to make an impact right where we are: Moms helping moms.
