Puerto Vallarta Serves as Headquarters for Major Sporting Events
Puerto Vallarta continues preparation to be a competition venue for the 2011 Pan American Games and also to host other significant sporting events in the future. In addition to demonstrating our capacity as host, our city has received a great deal of coverage in the international media thanks to events including World Championship Boxing, the final training round of the Mexican Davis Cup tennis team, the Aga Sidral XVI International Sports Classic and international beach volleyball and soccer tournaments.
Puerto Vallarta sigue preparándose para ser sub-sede de los Juegos Panamericanos del 2011 al convertirse en anfitrión de grandes e importantes eventos deportivos. Además de demostrar su capacidad como sede, la ciudad ha recibido una gran cantidad de cobertura de los medios de comunicación internacionales, gracias a eventos como el Campeonato Mundial de Box, el cierre de entrenamiento del equipo mexicano de tenis Copa Davis, el XVI Sidral Aga International Sports Classic, así como los torneos internacionales de voleibol y fútbol de playa.
The 2009 Puerto Vallarta World Boxing Championships (www.boxvallarta.com) was held in July at the newly inaugurated International Convention Center. This was the first major sporting event staged at the convention center and featured ticket sales through one of the largest event promoters in Latin America. The national television network, TV Azteca, broadcast the event, and there were also a significant number of associated activities-including a parade, public autograph signing session, official weigh-in ceremony and an impressive concert series.
El Campeonato Mundial de Box Puerto Vallarta 2009 (www.boxvallarta.com) por ejemplo, se realizó en el recién inaugurado Centro Internacional de Convenciones el pasado mes de julio. Este fue el primer gran evento de entretenimiento que recibió dicho recinto, además de que la venta de boletos fue a través de una de las promotoras de eventos más importantes en Latinoamérica. Alrededor de este evento, transmitido por la cadena de televisión nacional TV Azteca, se realizaron varias actividades como una caravana, firma de autógrafos, ceremonia de pesaje y un concierto masivo previo al campeonato.
