Rotary family health day VEREENIGING. - Rotary International in partnership with the Department of Health recently hosted a national outreach. The Rotary Family Health Day (RFHD) from May 9 to May 11 was held at 182 sites countrywide. At Emfuleni, identified sites were

the Bophelong ASEDI Community Centre, the Albertina Sisulu Sebokeng Zone 11 Clinic and the Levai Mbatha Clinic in Evaton. The programme’s primary purpose is to strengthen community networks and social systems to improve access to health-care services.

Services provided include HIV counselling and testing, turberculosis screening, polio immunisation, diabetes and blood-pressure testing, deworming and vitamin supplements, and the promotion of and talks about the advantages of the `consistent carrying and use’ of condoms.

Sometimes two in a day. They’ve picked up people they’ve never met. Supported children that weren’t their own. Seen death steal life, and given it back again. They’re on the ground long after others have put their feet up. And have stood firm when others have fled. These are the shoes of someone who always puts other people first. The shoes of someone who saves lives. These are the shoes of a nurse, and on the 12th of May, International Nurses’ Day, we’d like to thank our Mediclinic nurses for making them such big shoes to fill.

Die ontbyt is een gaar koppie mieliemeel (kies die growwe een), tamatie-enuiesmoor (125 ml), 2e biltong of 1 dun snytjie kaas om oor die pap te smelt. Sluk dit af met 25 ml melk vir tee of koffie. Volg jou dieet met Omega 3-aanvullings (1 000 mg per dag) en kry genoeg rus en matige oefening in, dit sal dit help om jou insulien/bloedsuiker-wanbalans te herstel. * Begin jou nuwe lewenstyl met ‘n besoek aan jou dokter en gesonde eetplan.

Een uit elke vyf mense sukkel met diabetes en dit kan beskou word as ‘n epidemie, meen kenners. Hiervan is die tipe 2 (nie-insulien-afhanklik) die mees prominente van die siekte en teenoorgesteld van diabetes wat aanleiding gee tot vetsug en oorgewig. Diëte flop dikwels wanneer lewerselle, vet en spiere weerstandig teen insulien raak en voorkom dat vet in die liggaam verbrand word. Hier speel gene verseker ‘n rol wat deur jou leefstyl soos onder meer streshantering grootliks bydra tot ‘n gesonde liggaam. Volgens kenners is sowat 80% van oorgewig mense insulien-weerstandig en word toegeskryf aan die sogenaamde “metaboliese sindroom”.
