GERALD RICHEY

Assistant Coach 14th Year Abilene Christian, 1964 Entering his 14th year as assistant coach at UT Arlington, Gerald Richey continues his work with the pole vaulters. A graduate of Abilene Christian University, he has been on the sidelines of various track and field meets since 1958, including 27 years at Arlington High School from 1968-1995. Over the course of 37 years, Richey coached football, cross country and track. During that time, he coached three future All-Pro football players, two state champion cross country teams, two state runner-up cross country teams, a regional championship cross country team, 18 district champion cross country teams, seven district champion track teams and many individual state meet qualifiers and champions.

In October of 1999, the city of Arlington recognized Richey’s accomplishments by naming the cross country course at Vandergriff Park in his honor.

JODY BROCCOLI-HICKEY Graduate Assistant Coach Second Year UT Arlington, 2008 Former UTA distance standout Jody Broccoli-Hickey is in his second season as a graduate assistant for the UTA track and field team. Broccoli-Hickey was one of the top distance runners for the Mavericks during his career including in his final season of 2008. During that season he registered the team’s best times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters and had the second best mark in the 3,000 meters. Hickey was the top runner during the fall of 2007, finishing sixth at the SLC Cross Country Championships. During his junior season, Broccoli-Hickey scored points in both the 3,000-meter steeplechase (fourth – 31:59.65) and the 10,000 meters (seventh – 32:30.03). In 2006 he finished 10th in the 10,000 meters at the SLC Outdoor Championship and clocked a 33:13.44 at the Texas Relays He finished 47th at the NCAA South Regionals in 2005 with a time of 33:34.1 over the 10,000-meter course in Waco, Texas.. A Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state cross country champion, winning with a 16:24 over the 5K race in Waco in 2003. He placed second in state in the two-mile run and was sixth in state in the one-mile. He was named second-team Greater Houston Area as a senior. He was a kinesiology major at UTA.
