VOLMANAC

Notes  Trae Golden’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the back of the rim as Alabama held off the Vols, 68-65, at Coleman Coliseum on Jan. 12. A 10-0 Crimson Tide run late in the second half proved to be the difference.  Junior Jordan McRae led the Vols in scoring for the third game in a row, tallying 21. He was the Vols’ only double-figure scorer.  McRae’s layup with 7.7 left brought the Vols within one at 66-65. Tide point guard Trevor Releford made two free throws with 7.5 seconds left to give the Tide a 68-65 lead.  Vols freshman Armani Moore made his biggest impact of the season with a career-high tying seven points in a career-high 21 minutes in his SEC debut.  The Vols led 28-24 at halftime behind 10 points from McRae. The game featured 10 lead changes and 11 ties, and no team led by more than eight points for the entire game.  Releford scored all 15 of his points in the second half, including two free throws that sealed the game with 7.5 seconds left. Trevor Lacey also had 15 for the Crimson Tide. Levi Randolph (12) and Andrew Steele (11) also scored 10+.

POSTSEASON

Notes  Ole Miss won in Knoxville for the first time since 1991 as the Rebels handed Tennessee a 92-74 defeat Jan. 9 in the SEC opener for both teams. The Vols had won 11 consecutive games at home in the series dating to Feb. 27, 1991.  Jordan McRae led the Vols in scoring for the second game in a row with a career-high-tying 26 points as he returned to the starting lineup. Jarnell Stokes had his fifth career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds  The Rebels outrebounded the Vols, 47-32. Ole Miss also had an advantage at the free-throw line, as the Rebels went 38-of-44 from the stripe (.864). The free throws made and attempted set records for the most by an opponent in Thompson-Boling Arena history.  Ole Miss led the Vols, 38-30 at halftime, and the Rebels scored the first four points of the second half to take the first double-figure lead of the game, going up 42-30.  Down by 12 early in the second half, the Vols chipped away early in the second half. McRae’s 3-pointer with 13 minutes left, cut the deficit to five at 53-48. But Ole Miss used a 6-0 run to regain a double-figure lead at 61-50 on floater by Henderson with 10:55 left.  The loss gave UT back-to-back home losses for the first time since falling to Pittsburgh and Austin Peay last December.  The SEC’s leading scorer, Marshall Henderson, tallied a career-high 32 points for Ole Miss. Two Rebels had double-doubles as Murphy Holloway had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Reginald Buckner had 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Jarvis Summers added 16 points.
