ITEMS OF NOTE

¢ This is the second contest of a six-game homestand for Tennessee that began Dec. 13 and stretches through Jan. 9. ¢ Presbyterian College, located in Clinton, S.C., is in its first year of full Division I certification and is eligible for the Big South Conference Tournament and all postseason possibilities for the first time. ¢ The nickname “Blue Hose” began in the early 1900s, when sportswriters referred to Presbyterian College athletic teams as the “Blue Stockings” because of the blue socks they wore. Writers often shortened “stockings” to “hose” in newspaper headlines. ¢ Former UT graduate manager Brooks Savage is in his first season as an assistant coach at Presbyterian. His last year at UT was 2009-10. ¢ The Tennessee basketball program’s threeyear OUTLIVE initiative to raise funds for cancer awareness and the UT Medical Center Cancer Institute was Savage’s idea, as he was inspired by former Vol Chris Lofton’s successful bout with the disease. OUTLIVE lasted from 2009-11. ¢ Tennessee is receiving 18.4 ppg from its bench, and the Vols’ bench has outscored the opponents’ bench in seven straight games. ¢ The Vols score 29.8 ppg in the paint this season. That’s 47.8 percent of the team’s total scoring. ¢ The Vols’ 3-point field-goal defense of .248 is second in the SEC and ranks 13th nationally. Tennessee’s opponents are making an average of just 3.5 3-pointers per game. ¢ Tennessee has used the same starting lineup in all eight games it has played this season.
