DUKE AT A QUICK GLANCE

By winning the first outright SEC Championship in program history last week, Tennessee was awarded the No. 14 seed in the NCAA Tournament and the right to host the first and second rounds. UT is hosting for the fifth time in the last eight years and holds an 8-2 record in tournament matches played in Knoxville.

The Lady Vols earned their fourth national seed in program history, all of which have come with head coach Rob Patrick at the helm.

With the win over Kentucky last week, Tennessee has now won 12 straight matches, six of which have come on the road. Entering Thursday, UT is a perfect 13-0 at home.

Duke has made the NCAA Tournament for an ACC-record seven consecutive seasons and has 12 NCAA Tournament victories, which is the most in ACC history.

With four seniors and three juniors, the Blue Devils have an experienced lineup, as five of seven starters returned for 2011. Last year, the squad made the Elite Eight before losing to eventual NCAA Champion Penn State.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT The University of Tennessee Lady Vol volleyball team clinched its first outright Southeastern Conference Championship last Wednesday evening with a 3-1 win over No. 16 Kentucky (28-30, 25-20, 30-28, 25-18) at Thompson-Boling Arena. In front of the fifth-largest crowd in UT history, the Lady Vols won their 12th straight match and went a perfect 13-0 at home during the regular season.

Three members of the Big Orange recorded double-doubles, as sophomore Kelsey Robinson notched a team-best 26 kills to go along with 13 digs, freshman Mary Pollmiller dished out 64 assists and added 11 digs and freshman Tiffany Baker had 12 kills and 11 digs versus UK. The victory clinched an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and Sunday, the Orange and White found out they would be hosting the first and second rounds of the Tournament, as they were seeded 14th.

UT (27-3) will face off against Duke (21-8) at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the opening round after Ohio State (19-14) takes on Middle Tennessee State (21-11) at 4:30 p.m. The winner of both contests will move on to a second-round showdown at 7 p.m. on Friday for the right to advance to the NCAA Regional in Gainesville, Fla., Dec. 9-10.

THE NCAA (HISTORICALLY SPEAKING) Tennessee is making its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, which ties a school record (1981-84), and 13th overall showing in postseason play.

The Lady Vols will be hosting for the eighth time in school history and for the first time since 2009. UT has an overall NCAA Tournament record of 12-12, as the team went 1-1 last season.

The Big Orange tallied five victories over ranked teams in the tournament and has made four NCAA Regional appearances (1982, 1984, 2004, 2005), along with reaching the Final Four in 2005.

PATRICK’S MILESTONE WINS

ROB PATRICK /// HEAD COACH Two-time National Coach of the Year Rob Patrick has developed a tradition of excellence since coming to Tennessee 15 years ago. Following his arrival at Rocky Top, Patrick has become one of the nation’s top coaches and helped the Lady Vols attain levels of success never before reached in Knoxville, as evidenced by NCAA Tournament berths in seven of the last eight years, including a run to the Final Four in 2005. His nine-year stretch of winning seasons from 1998-2006 marks the longest-such run in program history, topping the previous high of seven, set from 1978-84. The Big Orange has won 20 or more matches in eight of the last 10 campaigns. Prior to Patrick’s

arrival at UT in 1997, the Lady Vols last recorded a 20-win season in 1988.

Patrick joined the UT program in July of 1997 after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach with national powerhouse Stanford.

From 1994 to 1996, he helped lead the Cardinal to a combined 92-6 record and two NCAA championships, including title-game victories over UCLA and Hawaii in 1994 and 1996, respectively.

During that stint, Stanford never lost a home match en route to participating in the 1995 NCAA Final Four and winning three consecutive Pac-10 titles.

In July, former Iona College head coach Alan Edwards joined the UT staff as the team’s new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

“I am very excited about adding Alan to our coaching staff,” Patrick said. “He brings a wealth of volleyball experience, both as a head coach and assistant coach from a number of Division-I programs, and is someone who I feel will be able to assimilate himself into our team very quickly.”

Edwards was most recently the head coach at Iona for the past five seasons, where he led the Gaels to a 75-79 overall record and four appearances in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.

During his time in New Rochelle, Edwards mentored one of the top defensive players in NCAA history in Allison Neiters. One of the top volleyball performers in Iona College and MAAC history, she shattered the Iona and conference career record for digs with 2,682, the fifth highest all-time total in the NCAA. Neiters was named the 2007 and 2008 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2009 MAAC Libero of the Year, as well as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week 17 times during her career. She was also a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team and MAAC Honor Roll member, two-time CoSIDA Academic AllDistrict selection and earned Iona’s Academic Merit Award for holding a 3.50 or above grade point average.

After a standout career at Mississippi State as a player and coaching the past three seasons as an assistant at ETSU, Rachel Cooper joined the Tenneessee staff in May. Prior to her time as an assistant coach at ETSU, Cooper served as a graduate assistant with the Buccaneers, where she assisted in recruiting and coordinated team travel and community service.

“The thing that most impresses me about Rachel is her work ethic,” Patrick said. “I’ve gotten to know her in recent years when she has come to work our camps and I am very excited that we have been able to add her to our coaching staff. She has experience in recruiting and understands the day-to-day responsibilities involved with running a high-level volleyball program.

“Rachel was also an outstanding player in the SEC and knows exactly what it takes to be successful at the highest level in our conference. Her personality is very engaging and inviting, and I expect that our players will be able to easily relate to her.”

A Roscoe, Ill., native, Cooper was a four-year letter winner and starting outside hitter for the Mississippi State Bulldogs. A two-year captain and team Most Valuable Player, Cooper was also the first Bulldog athlete ever named SEC Player of the Week. She finished her career third all-time in kills with 1,405.

WHO’S BACK? Tennessee is returning three starters and a libero from last year’s roster: juniors DeeDee Harrison and Leslie Cikra, sophomore Kelsey Robinson and sophomore libero Ellen Mullins.

Robinson was a SEC All-Freshman Team selection in her first season with the Lady Vols at outside hitter.

Additional returners include sophomore setter Kylann Scheidt, senior setter Kelsey Mahoney and sophomore outside hitter Carly Sahagian.

WHO’S NEW? For one, most of the coaching staff is new. Patrick added two new assistants in the offseason: Alan Edwards, who was head coach at Iona; and Rachel Cooper, who was as an assistant at East Tennessee State.

On the court, the Lady Vols feature plenty of new faces with the eighth-ranked recruiting class in the country. JETER OUT FOR SEASON Senior leader Kayla Jeter will miss the entire 2011 season with a knee injury, associate athletics director for sports medicine Jenny Moshak reported.

Jeter suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee at team practice Aug. 19. Recovery time is estimated between six and nine months.

Jeter enjoyed her best season as a junior in 2010, earning first-team All-SEC and AVCA All-America honorable mention honors. The Solon, Ohio, native ranked second on the squad with 340 kills (2.98/set) and led UT with 19 solo blocks.

SEC COACHES’ SURVEY SAYS The Southeastern Conference coaches selected Tennessee to finish second in the Eastern Division, and they picked up two votes to win the SEC regularseason title. LADY VOLS IN THE RANKINGS With no new AVCA poll being released until Dec. 20, the Lady Vols remained at No. 15, as the team received 686 points in the poll released on Nov. 21.

The squad returned to the top 25 on Sept. 26, as it was ranked 23rd following wins over South Carolina and No. 6 Florida on the road. Despite going 3-0 to start the season, the Big Orange fell out of the poll after week one.

PAST & PRESENT THE BEST IN THE SEC Winning the Southeastern Conference after going 19-1 against the leauge, the University of Tennessee was well represented on the All-SEC Awards list.

Sophomore Kelsey Robinson was tabbed SEC Player of the Year, setter Mary Pollmiller earned SEC Freshman of the Year and head coach Rob Patrick picked up SEC Coach of the Year.

Robinson became the first Lady Vol ever to be selected as the conference’s Player of the Year. On the season, she ranked first in the league in kills per set (4.57), points per set (5.19) and double-doubles (21), while her average of 0.37 aces per set in SEC play ranked second.

Pollmiller was selected as the Freshman of the Year after leading the league with 12.35 assists per set (counting league matches only) and ranks fourth nationally with a season average of 12.05 assists per set.

For the third time in his coaching career, Patrick claimed SEC Coach of the Year after guiding a young Lady Vol team to an overall record of 27-3 and a conference championship.

Joining Robinson on the All-SEC First Team were juniors DeeDee Harrison and Leslie Cikra. Along with Pollmiller, Tiffany Baker was also named second team All-SEC and to the All-Freshman Team.

WE’RE ROLLING AGAIN! After a heartbreaking loss at No. 25 Kentucky in a five-set thriller on Oct. 12, the Wildcats ended the Lady Vols 11-match winning streak.

However, since that match, the Lady Vols have surpassed that run, winning 12-straight matches. UT claimed revenge on UK by knocking off the Wildcats in the season finale to win the Southeastern Conference championship outright.

The UK loss ended UT’s streak of 11 straight SEC wins, which dated back to last season. This season, the 8-0 start by the Big Orange in league play tied for the best conference start in UT history.

AWARDS ABOUND With success comes reward, and Tennessee has had an abundance of both. This season alone, multiple Lady Vols have been recognized by the SEC in the same week on four occasions. That breaks a conference record, as Florida had multiple award recipients on three occasions in 2008.

Tennessee has now had six different players accumulate 14 league honors, which is the most in the conference this year and seven more than any other university. LSU ranks second with seven weekly awards, followed by Kentucky with six.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT  DUKE Five starters return for Duke this season,including All-American setter Kellie Catanach. Catanach was named ACC Player of the Year and an AVCA AllAmerica third team selection last season after leading the ACC with 1,419 assists and 11.26 assists per set.

Duke also returned NCAA All-Regional selection Sophia Dunworth and All-ACC honorees Christiana Gray, Ali McCurdy and Amanda Robertson.

The Blue Devils have advanced to the NCAA tournament 10 times in 13 seasons under head coach Jolene Nagel. Duke has advanced past the first round in six of the last eight NCAA Tournaments.

Gray leads the ACC and ranks ninth in the nation with a .399 hittng percentage.The 6-5 middle blocker has amassed 303 kills and just 64 attack errors over her 599 attacks this year. She averages 4.73 kills for every attack error.

The Blue Devils went 6-3 in non-conference matches this season.

OHIO STATE AT A QUICK GLANCE Ohio State is making its 18th overall NCAA Tournament appearnce, as the Buckeyes have advanced to the postseason each of the last three seasons. Last year, they made it to the Sweet Sixteen, where they lost to Stanford.

Playing in one of the best conferences in the nation, the Big Ten, the Buckeyes are 4-6 in their last 10 matches and are ranked 48th in the RPI. This year, OSU finished seventh in the league with a 9-11 record.

THE LAST TIME VS. DUKE - 12/4/09 KNOXVILLE (NCAA TOURNAMENT): With a 3-1 triumph over Duke, the No. 24 University of Tennessee volleyball team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in school history.

Kayla Jeter and Nikki Fowler combined to blast out 35 of UT’s 54 kills with totals of 18 and 17, respectively, to pace a strong offensive showing for the Big Orange. The match was played in front of the largest home postseason crowd in UT history, as 1,059 fans clicked the turnstiles.

THE LAST TIME VS. OHIO STATE

MTSU is in the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season and the seventh time in school history. Last year the Blue Raiders lost to Louisville in the First Round.

MTSU is 8-2 in their last 10 matches and finished the regular season ranked #45 in the RPI. The Blue Raiders were selected via an at-large bid, marking the second time in school history.

- 12/10/04 MINNEAPOLIS (NCAA TOURNAMENT): The No. 9 University of Tennessee volleyball team fell to No. 7 Ohio State, 29-31, 27-30, 30-16, 30-26, 15-12, in an NCAA regional semifinal to conclude its record season with a 32-3 mark.

The Lady Vols, a #12 seed nationally, saw their 14-match winning streak end in the loss to the fifthseeded Buckeyes (30-3). The winning streak was the longest at Rocky Top since the 1980 squad ran off 22 straight from Oct. 2-31.

- 10/15/02 KNOXVILLE: The University of Tennessee Lady Vol volleyball team kept its perfect all-time record against Middle Tennessee State in tact, winning 3-2 (30-21, 23-30, 21-30, 30-20, 15-8) to move to 14-0 against the Lady Raiders.

Heading into their third five-game match in their last four outings, the Lady Vols came out poised and focused. When the teams switched benches, Tennessee held a substantial 8-3 advantage over the Lady Raiders.

Sophomore Kelsey Robinson has been tremendous this year, producing 12 performances of at least 20 kills so far this season. In 11 of those matches, she has also recorded a double-double.

(The list of double-doubles is in the box on the right.)

No Lady Vol had as many 20-kill matches in all of 2010. All-American Nikki Fowler reached the mark four times last year to lead the team.

Meanwhile, Robinson has already surpassed her double-double total from last season, when she had five matches with at least 10 kills and 10 digs.

Perhaps not suprisingly, she is a national leader offensively. She leads the conference and ranks 12th nationally in kills per set (4.57). She also ranks ninth in Division I in points per set (5.19).

When a pair of Lady Vols in junior DeeDee Harrison and sophomore Carly Sahagian were bestowed conference honors on Sept. 26, it marked the first time since Oct. 20, 2008, that multiple Lady Vols were recognized by the SEC in the same week.

Since then, that feat has been accomplished three times by UT, as on Oct. 31, freshman Tiffany Baker was tabbed the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week., while classmate Mary Pollmiller earned Freshman of the Week honors. On Monday, Kelsey Robinson was tabbed Offensive POW and Pollmiller again picked up the Freshman of the Week award.

On Nov. 21, sophomore Kelsey Robinson was named Offensive POW and Baker grabbed Freshman of the Week.

In September, Sahagian was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Harrison earned the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week.

Sahagian recorded double-doubles in both matches versus Florida and South Carolina, highlighted by blasting a career-high 19 kills at UF. Harrison was a standout all-around performer, blocking a total of 12 attacks, with an average of 1.33 blocks per set. She also set career-highs in blocks assists and total blocks at USC. Offensively, she also notched double-digits in kills in both matches.

In October, Baker became the sixth different Lady Vol this season to earn an SEC accolade. By having six different student-athletes be recognized, it is the most in UT history and ties for the most in SEC history (UF also had six players earn honors in 2007).

Baker had double-doubles in each match and increased her season averages in almost every statistical category. Pollmiller had 41 assists in a sweep of South Carolina, aiding UT to a season-high .446 hitting percentage versus the Gamecocks.

Against Arkansas and LSU, Robinson averaged 6.00 points per set and 5.50 kills per set, as she registered her SEC-leading 20th double-double of the year versus the Tigers. Baker hit a career-best .524 (110-21) in the sweep over LSU, while only committing one attack error between the two matches.

With Harrison and Sahagian earning conference honors in the same week, and Baker/Pollmiller, Robinson/Baker and Robinson/Pollmiller repeating that feat, UT is the only team this season to have multiple players earn SEC accolades in the same week.

The last time the feat happened came in the final week of 2010, by Alabama’s Mary Catherine Aune and Brianne Vande Griend each grabbed awards.

NIFTY 50 Freshman Mary Pollmiller’s first year in Orange and White is off to a fantastic start. Because of injuries at the setter position, she has played all but a handful of points. Her average of 12.03 assists per set ranks first in the SEC and also ranks fourth nationally.

She has 13 matches of at least 50 assists this season, the last one coming in a 3-1 Lady Vol victory versus Kentucky. This season she has also produced seven double-doubles, registering 50 or more assists in four of those performances.

UT’S 800TH WIN Sunday’s 3-0 sweep over Alabama wasn’t only the the squad’s 24th win of the season, but it also was the 800th win for the Tennessee volleyball program.

Lady Vol head coach Rob Patrick has been a huge reason for the success, as he has accumulated nine seasons of at least 20 victories, highlighted by a 32win season in 2004.

WE DON’T MESS AROUND By notching their 20th win in just the 23rd match of the year versus South Carolina, the Lady Vols have made it to the 20 win milestone in the third fastest amount of time in Tennessee history. The 1973 team won their first 20 in a row, while the 2004 squad reached 20 wins in 22 matches.

Kelsey Robinson has been an offensive force this season, as her play has caught the attention of both the SEC and on the national level.

On Oct. 10 she was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while a day later she grabbed Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week Honors for her efforts against Alabama and Ole Miss.

Robinson notched double-doubles in both matches versus the Rebels and Crimson Tide and leads the SEC with 21 double-doubles. Versus the Rebels, Robinson recorded her second 20-20 game of the season, as she blasted 20 kills and had 20 digs.

In a three-set sweep of Alabama, she registered 15 kills, 13 digs and three assists.

She also received the SEC Offensive POW accolde on three more occasions, while adding MVP honors at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic and Virginia Tech Invite and being named to the all-tournament team at the Illinois State Farm Classic.

Entering the final road weekend of the regularseason, sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Robinson was just 29 kills short of breaking the 25-point rally scoring kills record held by Nikki Fowler, as she had 430 going into the matches at Ole Miss and Alabama.

After blasting 24 kills against the Rebels, Robinson was just five shy of tying Fowler’s tally of 459 in 2009. She eclipsed that mark on Nov. 13 at Alabama, as she recorded 12 kills against the Crimson Tide to bring her season total up to 466. She now has totaled 525 on the year.

Her 42 service aces this season is also Lady Vol record, as she bettered teammate Kelsey Mahoney, who set the previous record in 2009 with 28 aces.

When the Southeastern Conference announced the weekly award recipients on Monday, Nov. 28, a familiar name was listed as the Freshman of the Week.

Tennessee freshman setter Mary Pollmiller earned the award for the fifth time this season, as she had 64 assists and 11 digs versus Kentucky. It was doubledouble number seven for her, as the UT offense blasted a four-set season-high 76 kills versus UK. She first earned SEC Freshman of the Week on Sept.

12 following her outstanding setting performance in Blacksburg, Va. She is one of just two freshmen currently in the SEC top 10 in assists per set, as she ranks first in the league, averaging 12.03 assists per set.

Her second honor came just three weeks later on Oct. 3, for her efforts at LSU and Arkansas. Against the Tigers and Razorbacks, Pollmiller had a hand in 80 percent of the kills, tallying 92 of Tennessee’s 102 assists and adding five kills of her own.

On Oct. 31, Pollmiller was again tabbed the conference’s Freshman of the Week, as she had 41 assists in a sweep of South Carolina, aiding UT to a season-high .446 hitting percentage versus the Gamecocks.

Two weeks ago on Nov. 14, she grabbed the award after matches at Ole Miss and Alabama. Pollmiller dished out 104 assists and averaged 13.00 helpers per set, as the Big Orange hit over .300 in both matches.

Against Alabama, the squad hit at a clip of .433, marking the second-highest offensive output of the season. Versus Ole Miss, she recorded a career-high 69 assists, ranking as the second-highest total of assists by an SEC player this year.

Her five accolades this year are the second most an SEC freshman has received since the conference began naming a Freshman of the Week in 2005.

Jasmine Norton of Arkansas collected six awards during her freshman campaign in 2009.

GETTING TO 25 At home against Arkansas, the Lady Vols picked up their 25th win of the year for the 11th time in school history. It marked the fourth time in the last quarter century, and the fourth time under Coach Rob Patrick. This is just the eighth time Tennessee reached the mark during the regular season.

HOW TOUGH IT IS TO WIN THE SEC Having claimed its first outright SEC title it program history, the Lady Vols have accomplished something special that has rarely been done.

Since 1989, LSU and Tennessee are the only two SEC teams besides 19-time champion Florida to win the conference.

MULLINS’ FIRST HONOR After setting a career high in digs and being a consistent presence in the Lady Vol back row, the Southeastern Conference announced that Tennessee sophomore libero Ellen Mullins has been named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 24.

It was the first time the Nashville native has been recognized by the SEC, as she averaged a team-best 5.75 digs per set between road matches against Kentucky and Mississippi State.

Against UK, Mullins set a career-high in digs with 31, which ranks second all time in UT history during the 25-point rally scoring era. At the time, it was also the most digs by any SEC player in a conference match this season.

The Lady Vols finished off the first half of their SEC double round-robin schedule in first place with a 9-1 mark, which is their best record at the half way point since the conference went to the format in 2006.

The next best start came in 2009, as that team went 8-2 in its first 10 against conference opponents.

The team went 7-3 last season and in 2006.

ABOVE .500 AGAIN By winning 10 of its first 11 conference matches this year, Tennessee assured itself of having an SEC record of above .500. Head Coach Rob Patrick has now lead the Lady Vols to a .500 or better record in 13 of his 15 seasons at Rocky Top.

DOMINATING ‘D’ The Tennessee defense has been terrific as of late, highlighted by the match at home versus Florida and the road contest against Mississippi State.

Against the Gators, the Big Orange defense limited to UF to a mere .160 hitting percentage, as it marked the first time on the season UF was outhit (.175-.160). At the time, Florida was leading the conference and the nation with a clip of .314.

At State on Oct. 16, the team held the Bulldogs to a .025 team hitting percentage. In the match, the highest MSU hit in any set was at .056, which came in the second frame. MSU’s hitting percentage of .025 is the 12th lowest average the Big Orange has held a team to since 2001.

The number 24 may be just a number to some, but for the Tennesseee Lady Vol volleyball team, it is a significant number in both matches versus Florida this season.

Most recently, in a 3-1 win over UF at home, the Big Orange snapped Florida’s streak of winning 24 consecutive sets. The Gators had not dropped a set prior to UT traveling to Gainesville earlier in the season and defeating UF in five.

By downing the No. 6 Gators on Sept. 25, Tennessee broke Florida’s streak of 24 straight SEC wins, which dated back to their last conference loss in 2009 — which was also against Tennessee.

It’s been seven years since the Lady Vols defeated Florida on its home court, as the 2004 squad topped Florida in the regular season finale, then returned a week later to win again in Gainesville to capture the SEC Tournament crown.

Through 30 matches this season, three Tennnessee records during the 25-point rally scoring era have been broken, which dates back to 2008.

Freshman Mary Pollmiller shattered the total assists record, as the Littleton, Colo., native currently has 1,384 assists on the year. Current Lady Vol Kelsey Mahoney previously held the record, as she tallied 842 helpers in 2009.

In digs, sophomore Ellen Mullins has dug up 440 balls this season, which ranks third. Junior DeeDee Harrison is the team leader in blocks, as she has 123 putbacks in 2011, which also ranks third.

FLORIDA DOESN’T LOSE AT HOME Florida’s loss to Tennessee was just its 21st defeat at home since Head Coach Mary Wise took over the team in 1991, and just the 52nd loss at home in program history.

By being unofficially ranked No. 26 on Sept. 25, UT is just the second unranked team to defeat Florida in Gainesville since 1991, and the first in 17 years.

Now with three victories in Gainesville, no other team has more wins over the Gators at home under Coach Wise than the Lady Vols.

BAKER SHINES BRIGHT After grabbing Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 31, freshman Tiffany Baker picked up a national accolade a day later, as CVU.com (College Volleyball Update) named her it’s National Player of the Week.

Baker lead the Lady Vols to a pair of victories against Florida and South Carolina, tallying doubledoubles in each match. She averaged 4.00 kills per set, hit at a clip of .429, dug up 3.29 balls per set and had a total of six total blocks.

A TOUGH OUT The Lady Vols volleyball squad has broken out the brooms 13 times this season, as the team is a perfect 13-0 in three set matches this year.

This is just the second season that Tennessee has not been swept in a match, as the only other occurance came in 2004, as that squad won 32 matches and captured an SEC Championship.

YOU GOT (COMMUNITY) SERVED The SEC announced Tuesday that Tennessee senior volleyball player Kayla Jeter has been named to the 2011 SEC Community Service Team.

A native of Solon, Ohio, Jeter has participated in numerous community outreaches, including volunteering at a homeless shelter and an assisted living home.

LADY VOLS INK BIANCA ARELLANO The Big Orange received a NLOI from one of the nation’s top setters, as Bianca Arellano of Phoenix, Ariz., is set to become a the Lady Vol in 2012.

Named to the 2011 Under Armour All-American Second Team, Arellano earned first team all-state the past three seasons and ranked 30th on the PrepVolleyball.com “Senior Aces” list.

MR. 300 With a sweep over Georgia in the Southeastern Conference opener on Sept. 16, Tennessee Lady Vol head coach Rob Patrick recorded his 300th career win, all of which have come at UT. Patrick now has the highest winning percentage of any UT volleybal coach (.675), along with the most victories (318).

HOME SWEET HOME The Lady Vols have had a lot of success this season, no matter what town or venue they are playing in.

However, the Lady Vols have protected their home court, as the team is a perfect 13-0 in matches played at Thompson-Boling Arena this year. Since the start of SEC play, UT has only dropped five sets in the friendly confines of TBA.

CAN’T MISS TELEVISION Tennessee games have aired 8 times on an ESPN network over the years and the Lady Vols are 5-3 in those matches. Overall, the team has won 13 of their last 16 televised matches.

Most recently, the Lady Vols swept visiting LSU on Sunday, Nov. 22, to improve to 3-1 on televised matches this season.

THE ORIGINAL ORANGE PANTS When UT head football coach Derek Dooley headed out of the Neyland Stadium tunnel in orange pants for the season-opener against Montana, he created a buzz around Knoxville, and even nationally.

However, what some may not know is that Lady Vol head volleyball coach Rob Patrick had already donned the orange pants a year ago against Kentucky on Sept. 30, 2010. The match was televised on ESPNU .

The Lady Vols swept the Wildcats in that match and Patrick’s orange pants record now stands at 2-1.

First putting on the Orange and White jersey for the first time in 2008, senior Kelsey Mahoney will play in her final home match of her UT career on Wednesday against Kentucky. Last Sunday, she was honored prior to the start of the LSU match.

Mahoney came to Tennessee along with Kayla Jeter and DeeDee Harrison, but the duo each redshirted. Harrision sat out her freshman year, while Jeter had to miss this season due to an injury right before the start of the season.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mahoney has played in ever match since Kentucky on Oct. 12. She ranks first in asssists per set during the 25-point rally scoring era, while also ranking second in total serving aces in a season.

SHE CAN DIG IT! Sophomore libero Ellen Mullins continues to be a force in the back row for the Lady Vols. Against UK on Oct. 12, she dug a career-high 31 balls, which is the third- most in an SEC match this season. On the season, she ranks fifth in the conference with an average of 3.75 digs per set.

Mullins bettered her previous career high by 11, as she notched 20 digs against Dayton. Her 31 digs are the fifth most by an SEC player this year, as she is just the fourth SEC player to reach the 30 dig mark and is 10th most by a Lady Vol in program history.

TAMING THE TIGERS AND GATORS By topping LSU on Sept. 30 and downing Florida Sept. 25, it is the first time in school history that Tennessee has beaten both the Gators and Tigers on the road in the same season. The Lady Vols had not won in Baton Rouge since 2000, while the last UT victory in Gainesville came in 2004.

PLAYING THE BIG POINTS The Lady Vols have gone to five sets in eight matches this year and are 6-2 in the final set. By going to five sets on eight occurences this season, UT has played the second most five setters of any team in school history.

That mark also ties the most five set matches in a season under Rob Patrick. Tennessee six wins is the school record for most five set victories in a season.

GETTING IT DONE IN THE CLASSROOM The Lady Vols volleyball squad was one of just four teams at Tennessee to earn a perfect 100% on the latest graduation success rate report that was released on Oct. 25.

TOP 25 VOLLEYBALL CROWDS The Lady Vols had seven of their top 25 highest crowds during the 2011 season, including a seasonhigh 2,012 against Florida on Oct. 28.

Twenty-two of Tennessee’s top 25 highest crowds have come in the four years since Thompson-Boling Arena became the team’s primary venue.

After spending 10 seasons in Stokely Athletics Center, the Lady Vol volleyball team is in its fourth year playing in Thompson-Boling Arena on the banks of the Tennessee River.

Since beginning to play in the facility full-time in 2008, the Lady Vols are 49-7 in home matches, including a perfect 13-0 this season.  Record at Thompson-Boling Since 2008

For the fourth-consecutive year, Tennessee shattered both its overall and average attendance records at Thompson-Boling Arena. In 13 matches this year, Tennessee had an overall attendance of 14,293 and averaged 1,148 fans. Four of the five top crowds in UT history have come this season.

Prior to 2011, the average home attendance of 983 in 2010, demolished the previous school record of 772 set the year before.

NEW COURT To the casual observer, the Lady Vols’ court looks very much the same as always with the checkerboard orange and white beyond each baseline, but the playing surface is brand new.

The court was assembled for the first time in Thompson-Boling Arena last week and is slightly elevated off the ground, which makes for more spring on the court. The Lady Vols’ new practice court is also designed this way.

RECORD SETTER For its Friday-night match against No. 13 Florida on Oct. 28, an announced crowd 2,012 fans were in attendance to see UT win in four sets, marking the second-highest attendance in program history.
