STATISTICAL SERVICES Services provided include statistics generated from the STATCREW computer statistics program. Wireless monitors are placed on press row for immediate access to statistics. Hard copies of halftime stats, final stats and play-by-play highlights at the end of each half also will be distributed. Coaches’ quotes will be provided following the post-game interview sessions.
THE NCAA
POSTGAME INTERVIEWS A formal post-game interview is held in the basketball media area following each game. The media will be solicited for player names with five minutes left in the game. After a 10-minute cooling-off period, a UT coach and selected players will be brought to the media area. After the coach has concluded the question and answer period, she will leave and UT players will remain to answer final questions. Afterwards, the visiting coach and selected players will be brought to the basketball media area. Risers for television cameras and a distribution box for radio will be available in the back of the area.
THE SEC HISTORY RECORDS
RADIO Requests to broadcast must be made in writing at the earliest possible date to receive permission. Stations are responsible for contacting Glenn Thackston at IMG/Lady Vol Network in Knoxville for use of the phone lines in Thompson-Boling Arena. Mr. Thackston can be reached during business hours at (865) 584-7043. The radio broadcast location is on the floor level at the main scorer’s table.

THE SEC MEDIA POLICY By acceptance and use of an SEC media credential, the holder agrees to the following conditions for any and all athletic events hosted by the SEC and its member institutions: 1. The SEC and its member institutions grant a media organization a limited license to use certain gathered information on the media organization’s own Internet or online site beginning at the start of an athletic event and up to the conclusion of such event, all subject to the following limitations and conditions: (a) No more than 10 still photographs may be used for news coverage of the game and other editorial purposes during the event. (b) Video tape may only be shown as part of a single, nonarchived, online “simulcast” of a television station’s regularly-scheduled news program. (c) While a game is in progress, the use of textual statistical information is time-delayed and limited in amount (e.g., updates pertaining to score, injuries and national, conference or institutional record-breaking performances, a condensed half-time story) so that an organization’s Internet or online game coverage does not undercut the authorized and rightspaying fee organization’s rights to play-by-play accounts of the game and/or exclusivity as to such rights. 2. Any proposed media use on an Internet or online sight of the game information that is more detailed and/or more than described above will require separate written authorization by the SEC and/or its member institutions. However, such written authorization will not permit the use of game information in entertainment contexts and will not authorize game coverage that, due to immediacy or detail, constitutes or approaches a playby-play account of a game.
REVIEW
PHOTOGRAPHER CREDENTIALS Credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers or those individuals on special assignment. During regular season games, work area includes the floor area at both ends of the court and alongside the corners of the playing floor opposite the team benches. Special arrangements for strobes or catwalk access must be made through the Media Relations and Arena Management Offices no later than one week in advance of the game. UT’s arena security policy requires that all photographers placing strobes will go through a screening process and must be accompanied by a UT police officer or representative when placing strobes.
PRESS ROOM SERVICES The pressroom and interview rooms are on the east end of the arena. Soft drinks, a pre-game meal, and a halftime snack will be offered in the basketball media area. Post-game interviews also will be conducted in this area. Adjacent to the area, the working pressroom has numerous telephones and electrical outlets available. Wireless Internet is available both courtside and in the media workroom. Fax machine service also will be available. MEDIA CREDENTIALS Media outlets interested in obtaining credentials to cover Lady Vol basketball home games must apply for those online via Sports Systems. To apply, please visit: http://www.sportssystems.com/seccredentials. Applications for single-game credentials should be submitted five days prior to a game. Once you receive your approval letter via email, you will be provided options for credential pick-up.
PRESS ROW Press row is located on the east side of the arena behind the baseline nearest the visiting team bench. Only accredited media will be allowed in this area. Children are not permitted on press row.

SEC COACHES TELECONFERENCE The SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament teleconference will take place Monday, Feb. 27. All 12 coaches will appear in alphabetical order by school for five minutes each. The postseason teleconference is set for Wednesday, March 14. It will feature coaches from all SEC teams participating in the NCAA and WNIT tournaments. Media wishing to participate in any of the teleconferences should contact the SEC Media Relations Office for details.
MEDIA PARKING PASSES AND MEDIA ENTRANCE Parking space is limited. The media must request parking access along with other credential requests. Media coverage on a regular basis will insure first priority in UT parking garage G-10. The media entrance is located adjacent to this parking area on Phillip Fulmer Way.

PLAYER AND COACH INTERVIEWS Media wishing to interview the coaches or players are encouraged to set up interviews in advance with the Media Relations Office. Generally, the best time to conduct an interview is following practice. Coach Summitt and the players are also available for phone interviews. The Media Relations office will help with all requests.

LADY VOL TELEVISED GAMES No other women’s basketball program in the nation enjoys the national scope of television coverage like the Lady Vols. Tennessee can trace its television coverage roots back to NBC’s SportsWorld in 1978 when the Lady Vols enjoyed their first top ranking in program history. Beginning in the 1978 season, the first of many local network television stations began airing select Lady Vol games each year. In 1979, TRZ Sports televised UT’s first nationally aired game from Knoxville. Additionally, UT was one of the first schools to welcome ESPN to its campus for coverage of women’s hoops. A network first for women’s basketball occurred at the 1981 AIAW National Championships when Coach Pat Summitt allowed herself to be miked for the title game and cameras were rolling in the locker room at halftime as a national audience was treated to an up-close view of Lady Vol basketball. Since the 1980s, over 500 games have been televised via CBS, NBC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FSN, Sport South, Prime, Sports Channel, Home Team Sports, Home Sport Entertainment, and Comcast/Charter Sports Net. Countless other games have been aired via local cable outlets. No other women’s team in the nation has enjoyed the number of exposures on CBS Sports. To date, the Lady Vols have appeared 23 times on CBS and sport a 15-8 overall record. Tennessee has enjoyed phenomenal television growth over the last seven seasons as 83% of its games have been televised (204 television appearances out of a total of 247 games). Last season, the Lady Vols were on television 33 times and sported a 30-3 record on the tube. THE PAT SUMMITT SHOW “The Pat Summitt TV Show” takes Tennessee fans inside the workings of the most dominant women’s basketball program in the country. This entertaining 30-minute show is hosted by legendary coach Pat Summitt and the Lady Vol Network’s Mickey Dearstone. The show includes game highlights, exclusive behind the scenes player and team features as well as a scouting report for the upcoming week in Lady Vol basketball. The show airs for nine consecutive weeks during basketball season and is shown in Knoxville on WVLT (Saturday, 11:30 a.m.) and MyVLT2 (Sunday, 9:30 a.m.; Tuesday, 10:30 a.m.), Chattanooga on WTVC-TV (Saturday, 1:30 p.m.), Jackson on E+TV6 (10:30 p.m. Friday), Nashville on WUPX (Saturday, 12:30 p.m.) and the Tri-Cities on WJHL (Saturday, 12:30 p.m.). At that time, a handful of games were aired with John Ward, former play-by-play guru of UT football and men’s basketball, handling the microphone. This will mark the 34th year of Lady Vol games on the air. Typically, 25 or more stations air the regular season broadcasts as the network expands into many of the “Vol Network” stations. What we’ve hosted—Thompson-Boling Arena has hosted the First/Second Rounds of the NCAA Tournament for 20 years (1987-2003, 2005, 2010, 2011) as well as the 1991, 1995 and 2003 NCAA Mideast Regional Tournaments and the ultra-successful 1990 Final Four. Other events have included the nationally televised 1995, 1999, 2002 and 2011 State Farm Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classics and the 1991 and 1997 SEC/Big 10 Challenges.

RECORDS
Biggest NCAA Crowd—Until the 1996 Final Four in Charlotte, the Lady Vols also held the record for the women’s largest attendance in the history of the NCAA. When Tennessee hosted the 1990 Final Four, 19,467 attended the semifinals and 20,023 were on hand for the title game. The Lady Vols currently hold the record for the highest attendance at an NCAA Regional Final with 14,848 in attendance on March 23, 1998, when Tennessee defeated North Carolina, 76-70, in Nashville, Tenn.

THOMPSON-BOLING ARENA Thompson-Boling Arena celebrates its 25th Anniversary during the 2011-12 season. The Arena has 21,088 chairback seats, and a capacity for 590 seats in the loge and skybox seating areas, as well as a Daktronics scoreboard, beautified concourses, refreshment stands and numerous amenities. Originally, the arena was completed in time for the 1987-88 season and featured an official seating capacity of 24,535, which included 18,000 chair seats and almost 7,000 bleacher seats. Premium courtside seating was introduced for the first time in the 2004-05 season. The new capacity for the Arena is 21,678. The distance from the playing floor to the ceiling is the equivalent of a 12-story building. The Arena floor itself can accommodate a three-ring circus with space to spare. In the summer of 1996, the upper deck of the Arena (300 Level seating) was fitted with an automatic curtaining device for the USA Gymnastics Championships. UT has the ability to close off the upper level seating area and vary seating capacity from concerts to seminars to sporting events.

As the University of Tennessee’s Lady Vol basketball players take to the court, fans are apt to see a new level of spontaneity and exuberance in the tight-knit 11-member team. The Big Orange squad, perhaps as it never has before, will be “Playing in the Moment,” game in and game out, during the 2011-12 season. Their new approach to hoops sprang forth following the news they heard from their head coach at the first team meeting of the year on Aug. 23, 2011. Pat Summitt, the winningest basketball coach in NCAA history with a record of 1,071-199 (.843), stood before her players and staff and shared her news. “I visited the Mayo Clinic this spring and have been diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s Type,” Summitt announced to the hushed gathering. “I don’t want a pity-party, because it is what it is,” she said. “I plan on being your head coach as long as the good Lord is willing.” The silence was broken by fifth-year senior Vicki Baugh who spoke up almost immediately. “Coach, we’ve got your back. All of us do.” Summitt told her team that nothing would change about the way Lady Vol basketball conducted its business. “We expect to be cutting down nets at the end of the season,” she stated matter-of-factly. With Summitt’s words, faces brightened up around the room and the players absorbed the information in an instant. Collectively they echoed, “Coach, we love you! First, a pair of guards graduated in UT’s all-time leading three-point shooter Angie Bjorklund (career averages of 11.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 41% treys) and back-up Sydney Smallbone (2.5 ppg and 0.9 rpg). Second, redshirt junior and 6’6” center Kelley Cain (8.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.5 bpg career) also graduated and decided to forego her final year of eligibility. In April 2011, after continuously battling achy hips and knees, she announced, “I have accepted the fact that I am currently unable to meet the demands of playing collegiate basketball.” Finally, a pair of players moved on, as freshman guard Lauren Avant (2.6 ppg, 1.3 rpg) and senior forward Alyssia Brewer (6.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg career) departed the Lady Vol ranks. So what will this Lady Vol team look like on the court this season? “We’ll be long and lean and more versatile. We feel like this team will be able to move and cover end line to end line and sideline to sideline better than our last several teams,” said Summitt along with her staff, Holly Warlick, Dean Lockwood and Mickie DeMoss, in a roundtable interview. Instead of the big, massive and powerful front line of many previous Lady Vol teams, this one is going to feature a leaner, more athletic, mobile and a flex-position front line, while the backcourt is going to feature speed and more speed. “We can play a variety of personnel all the way down the roster,” said the staff. Coming into 2011-12, this squad also has shown its versatility in scoring and rebounding as well. Last season, seven different players led the team in scoring, and eight players were gamehigh rebounding leaders. This team also benefits from eight returnees all having logged starting assignments during their careers. Over the summer, Summitt’s 38th edition of the Lady Vol basketball team collectively embraced “preparation with a purpose” in off-season workouts. An already close and mature team cemented its bond even more following Summitt’s announcement, and they all ramped up the positive energy they exude daily. Ever since that time, Summitt has been encouraging them to live, play and enjoy the moment. Probably the player who walks that walk the best is fifth-year senior Baugh, a 6’4” post (3.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg in 2010-11). A member of the Lady Vols’ 2008 NCAA Championship Team as a rookie, Baugh blew out the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in the title game and unfortunately, did it again as a sophomore in her 14th game of the season in 2008-09. After surgery to repair a torn meniscus in January 2010, she sat out the 2009-10 campaign and slowly worked her way back during 2010-11. “Vicki Baugh, back and healthy, takes our team to another dimension with our athleticism,” said Summitt. This season, she is back better than ever and ready to make the most of her final go-round. Already with her B.A. degree in hand, she will complete her eligibility in UT graduate school in sports psychology. “Vicki is an awesome leader for this team,” Summitt continued. “She has a tremendous influence over her teammates and a powerful presence on the court. Her teammates look to her because she is so mentally strong.” Baugh previewed her mental toughness in

the final game of the 2011 season against Notre Dame in the NCAA Elite Eight game last March. She shed her tentativeness and logged 18 minutes – her most playing time since tearing her ACL for the second time on Feb. 2, 2009. Caught up in the moment of trying to help her team to the Final Four, it was a physical and emotional breakthrough for her. Living in the moment will be a challenging task for the four true seniors who are collectively mindful of the unfinished business at hand. This will be their last dance and the final shot at advancing to the Final Four. In their rear view mirrors, they can still see the disappointing 2008-09 rookie campaign and losing for the first time in school history in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Also in the mirror’s view are the heady achievements of fashioning 32-3 and 34-3 records and winning back-to-back SEC regular season and tournament titles in 2010 and 2011. “There are some positives to having a senior-laden team,” said Summitt. “They have been through about everything, but they are very resilient and focused and obviously very seasoned with all of their experiences over the last three years. They just have to stay in the moment and enjoy it.” The seniors are led by a 2011 State Farm AllAmerican and the 2011 SEC Player of the Year in 6’2” guard/forward Shekinna Stricklen (12.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and an All-SEC and All-SEC Defensive Team selection in 6’3” post Glory Johnson (12.0 ppg, 9.7 rpg). This past summer, they captured gold medals after a winning stint with Team USA at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China. signments and playing all 37 games in the 2010-11 season. “Kamiko has shown such growth both on and off the court,” said Summitt. “I just hate that she had to suffer a torn ACL. She gives us great athleticism at the guard spot and worked hard at improving her defensive play. “Although we are projecting her return to the court around Christmas, hopefully, it will be a waitand-see situation,” said Summitt. UT’s lone sophomore, 5’9” guard Meighan Simmons (13.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg), had an outstanding rookie campaign, leading the Lady Vols in scoring from start to finish, and earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors along the way. Simmons was just the fourth true rookie in UT history to lead the Lady Vols in scoring as a frosh, joining Bridgette Gordon (1985-86), Chamique Holdsclaw (1995-96) and Shekinna Stricklen (2008-09). A two guard, Simmons accomplished a great deal as a point guard during her first campaign. Her impact might be even greater as she moves back to her natural position. “No doubt about it, Meighan had great success last year, and we are challenging her to build on it, not to sit on it,” said DeMoss. She tallied exactly 500 points and dished out 104 scoring passes, joining former Lady Vol Olympian and All-American Kara Lawson (504 points, 102 assists in 1999-2000) in a very exclusive true rookie sorority at Tennessee. As a great offensive force, Summitt has challenged Simmons to dial up her defense this season. “I’ve asked Meighan to set the example for this team with her defensive play,” said Summitt. “I told her that her defensive awareness, intensity and effort are all things she can control to become a better player. We need that commitment from her to take on a greater role.” Definitely taking on a big role in 2011-12 will be the talented Lady Vol newcomers in three high school All-Americans 6’2” forward Cierra Burdick (Charlotte, N.C.), 6’3” post Isabelle “Izzy” Harrison (Nashville, Tenn.) and 5’6” point guard Ariel Massengale (Bolingbrook, Ill.). Burdick and Massengale earned gold medals with the USA U19 team this summer, while Harrison benefited from enrolling early at UT, working out on campus with her new teammates and playing in a summer league. “I love their energy and the positive personalities of this freshmen class,” said Summitt. “They love the game…they love this program and they are great teammates,” echoed the staff. Manning has played in 103 career games and earned 23 career starts, while Bass has seen action in 88 games and lined up for the opening tip 14 times. Tennessee’s coaches refer to Manning as “hard-nosed” and “the glue of the team,” while Bass is valued for her leadership and energy as “her teammates feed off her game.” Need a back-up point guard? You can call on Manning. Want someone to do the dirty work as a four player in the post? Give number 15 the call. Got to have a stop or help on defense? “A-town” is your player. “The things Alicia Manning does on the court don’t always show up in the box score,” said Warlick. “She is tough-minded and has played as diverse a role as anyone on our team. The great thing about her? She is always, always about the team,” said Lockwood. The same can be said for Bass. She has an effervescence about her that just gets everyone going. Whether she’s a starter averaging 21 minutes a game like she did as a rookie or playing in a backup role at the point, team is always first for Bass. “Bree has such a positive attitude and is a great leader,” said Summitt. “She is always focused on the task at hand, and she diligently works on her game. She is a great teammate and gives energy to everyone.” Summitt would like nothing more than for this class to advance to a Final Four. “As a class, our five seniors have been through the spectrum from the highest of the highs, to the lowest of the lows,” said Summitt. “All season long, I am going to encourage them to stay hungry, be in the moment and enjoy it. Perhaps good things are in store for them.” Guards Taber Spani (8.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg) and Kamiko Williams (6.8 ppg, 3.2 rpg) are a pair of lefties who each experienced a great deal of growth in their games as sophomores. The 6’1” Spani picked up 26 starts while the 5’11” Williams earned increased minutes (17.9 mpg) coming as a result of improved defensive intensity. This summer, Williams had surgery on July 22 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee. Her return to the court has not been determined as of yet. “Both Taber and Kamiko showed solid improvement and worked hard in the off-season to improve their right hands, foot speed and mobility,” said Summitt. “Kamiko’s return will be a waitand-see situation.” Spani battled through some dings and nicks as a sophomore. In October 2011, she had surgery on her left elbow to remove scar tissue build-up and returned to the court a couple of weeks after being sidelined. She took on a bigger role as a sophomore and doubled her rookie productivity in the box score, turning in 13 double-figures scoring games and flirting with a couple of doubledoubles. “A healthy Taber is going to be very good for this team,” said Summitt. “Her teammates respect her work ethic and her attitude. She is an energy giver.” “She is in tremendous shape…really mobile and lean,” remarked DeMoss. “As a result of her surgery, she had to do more things with just her right hand and that has helped her game quite a bit. I also believe she’ll come into this season as a better defender.” Unfortunately, Williams suffered her left knee injury on July 7 while playing in the Women’s Pilot Rocky Top Summer Basketball League in Knoxville. She was driving the baseline and went in for a reverse layup when the ACL tear occurred. She had been working hard in the off-season to be a bigger impact player for UT after earning four starting as-

ers for our team,” said Summitt. “Each of them is capable of producing game-changing moments, and they are at the core of our scoring and rebounding attack. All three of them should have All-America-type seasons.” Even though she did not lead her team in scoring, Stricklen earned All-America honors as a result of playing all three positions on the floor and solid defense. She has the capability of exploding in almost every statistical box score category on any given night. “Shekinna can impact a game on multiple levels,” said Summitt. “As an All-American, she has to play well for this team to go where they haven’t gone yet. “We have challenged her to become consistent in her play every time she steps out on the floor. If she does that, she can be one of the best players in the country.” Johnson rolled through her academic curriculum and graduated in just three years with a degree in global studies. She is now pursuing her master’s degree in communications studies. Johnson settled into scoring and rebounding consistency last season and nearly became the first Lady Vol to average double-figure rebounds for a season since All-American Patricia Roberts did so in 1977 with 14.2 rpg. “We are going to challenge Glory to have a double-double season in points and rebounds,” said Lockwood. “Last year, Glory turned the corner in terms of her approach to the game, and she had an All-American type of season. I believe this is going to be a special year for her.” Amazingly, Johnson is just 137 rebounds shy of becoming just the fourth Lady Vol in school history to grab 1,000 career boards and would join Chamique Holdsclaw (1,295 rebounds in 148 games), Sheila Frost (1,043 rebounds in 138 games) and Tamika Catchings (1,004 rebounds in 127 games). Massengale, who was anointed the 201112 starting Lady Vol point guard by Summitt last March, will jump into the cross-hairs quickly. “Just watch Ariel and you’ll understand why I announced she was our point guard,” said Summitt. “She has a great presence…is a true point guard and we’ve been anxiously waiting for her. I love her tempo. She makes quick decisions and pushes the ball up the floor,” said Warlick. Massengale is also an excellent on-the-ball defender, has great strength and applies constant ball pressure. She’ll have company on defense with Burdick alongside. The duo has done nothing but win gold medals for USA Basketball as teammates for the last three summers. A multi-dimensional player, she is able to line-up on the perimeter or go inside and play the four. “She is a positive and upbeat person and player,” said Lockwood. “She is very even-keeled on the floor and is extremely receptive to coaching.” Burdick is the kind of player who loves to embrace a challenge and does so eagerly. “She has a great skill set and is a solid shooter,” said Summitt. “She is not afraid to play out of her typical comfort zone on the perimeter.” The third member of the group already knew about life as a Lady Vol from her sister, redshirt junior volleyball standout Dee Dee Harrison. “Izzy” Harrison was quickly taken under the wing of Baugh in summer workouts and pick-up games. The fifth-year senior dubbed her rookie protégé, “a mini me.” Early on, the coaches have been impressed with her basketball IQ and the rapid progress she has made in her post game. She has been like a sponge absorbing the system with her willingness to put in extra work. “She has a great work ethic and made an impression on her teammates almost immediately,” said Summitt. “She wants to learn and is so receptive.” The perennial bull’s-eye is firmly affixed to the Lady Vols’ uniforms, as they take on another challenging schedule. Over the last two seasons, UT has fashioned a 66-6 record and won 33-straight SEC games (both regular season and tournament titles) in consecutive years. In addition to the Southeastern Conference slate of 16 games, the Lady Vols also will face a number of formidable non-conference teams, including first time foes Pepperdine and the University of Miami. Also on the dance card are contests with Virginia, Baylor, Middle Tennessee, Texas, DePaul, Rutgers, UCLA, Stanford, Old Dominion, Chattanooga and Notre Dame. Twenty of UT’s 24 opponents in the coming season participated in 2011 post season play, appearing in the NCAA or WNIT Tournaments. In all, UT will be facing competition from nine different conferences in the coming year, including the ACC, Big 12, BIG EAST, Colonial, Pac-12, Southeastern, Southern, Sunbelt and West Coast conferences. “This is an exciting schedule for the coming year,” said Summitt. “We’ll see a couple of new opponents in Pepperdine and Miami and travel to play 2011 Final Four teams Notre Dame and Stanford on their home courts. “The non-conference schedule is really challenging and should help us to prepare for anything we may see come post-season play.” The season gets underway with a pair of exhibition tune-ups in Knoxville, as Carson-Newman
