All music education majors are required to: •

articipate in a USF large music ensemble for seven semesters p (excluding student teaching semester);

ass a piano proficiency examination (freshman or p sophomore year);

r eceive approval to continue as a music major during annual evaluations,;

t ake applied lessons for six semesters (these courses may be taken for no credit);

aintain acceptable attendance at concerts, recitals, and m community events (10 per semester)

aintain regular attendance at departmental recitals each m semester; and

erform in at least one departmental recital per semester p (when enrolled in applied lessons).

The Music Department regularly assesses its programs to determine how well it is accomplishing its educational mission.

Music Minor Student Learning Outcomes: Students in the music minor will be provided with a broad understanding and appreciation of music as an integral part of the liberal arts in collaboration with their chosen major field of study. Student Learning Outcomes: 1. Students will recognize the connections between the musical arts, service to others and the community as well as the church and their personal faith. 2. Students will recognize the importance of music in relation to other liberal arts. 3. Students will gain a broad understanding on the components of music including the theoretical aspects, historical correlations, and performance mediums. 4. Students will experience positive interaction within a large group setting as well as the personal one on one interaction experienced in lessons. Vocational Applications: The study of music and participation in music ensembles prepare the student for future leadership and service in church and community music organizations. Requirements: In addition to meeting the regular degree requirements of the University, the student must take the following courses: ❏ MUS 150 Theory I ❏ MUS 155 Theory II ❏ MUS 250 History of Music I: Ancient-18th Century ❏ MUS 255 History of Music II: 18th Century-Present ❏ MUS 323 Conducting I ❏ FA 220 Service in the Arts 2 elective credits (any MUS 200 course or higher) All music minors are required to: •
