Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta, Georgia

Our Diversity as Gift and Challenge Wednesday, February 5, 2014 Hahn University Center, Forum C 12:00-1:30pm *Lecture begins at 12:30 p.m. Please RSVP at http://sandiego.kintera.org/ccs Archbishop Wilton Gregory is a prominent black Catholic leader in the U.S. Church. He was named Archbishop of Atlanta in 2005 and formerly served as the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Archbishop Gregory received his doctorate in Sacred Liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome. Among many honors, in 2006 Archbishop Gregory was inducted into Martin Luther King Board of Preachers at Morehouse College. He has also been the recipient of the Cardinal Bernardin Award in 2006 given by the Catholic Common Ground Initiative and named Time Magazine’s Person of the Week in 2002. Lecture Description: Archbishop Gregory will speak to the United States’ progress in our appreciation of multi-cultural identity as our national identity. He will discuss what we, as a nation, have learned and what remains for us to learn as we celebrate Black History Month. In this context, Archbishop Gregory will speak to his experience as a black Church leader, what Pope Francis will mean for the Church with regard to diversity and inclusion and how these matters of life and faith relate to the Catholic Social Thought principle of the Call to Family, Community and Participation.
