2014 Nursing Leadership Summit Sponsored by the SC OVOP Future of Nursing Action Coalition June 2 & 3 – Hilton Head Island, SC The SC Center for Nursing Leadership (housed at the USC College of Nursing) and the SCHA are co-leaders of the SC Action Coalition (AC) and want to invite you to join a select group of your colleagues at the 2014 Nursing Leadership Summit. This special meeting will be held at the Sonesta Hotel on Hilton Head Island, SC., and will feature three national speakers who will help our AC move the work of the IOM Future of Nursing Report forward – Dr. Sue Hassmiller, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Senior Advisor for Nursing; Dr. Maureen Sroczynski, President, Fairly Associates and Consultant to the Center to Champion Nursing in America; and Mr. William “Bill” Lecher, President of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing, and Senior Clinical Director at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Nurse leaders will convene on June 2nd for an afternoon of focused work on two issues: ◆ Establishing a model for educational progression to move our BSN workforce toward the 80% level by 2020; and ◆ Developing three leadership programs to prepare our nursing workforce for current and future leadership opportunities. On June 3rd, our speakers will address the following: ◆ Dr. Hassmiller – “The Future of Nursing: Perspective & Putting It Into Action” ◆ Dr. Sroczynski – “Creativity & Connections: Building a Framework for Nursing Education & Practice” ◆ Mr. Lecher – “Moving Diversity in Nursing from Planning Toward Action” Additionally on June 3rd, our colleagues from the Georgia Future of Nursing Action Coalition will join us and give an update on their work. It will be excellent for the two states to compare notes and perhaps develop collaborative work along the way. We want to encourage education/service associates to attend these sessions if at all possible, as it is through these partnerships that the National Campaign for Action will have successful outcomes. We would also like students to come and have a special registration fee to make that affordable. Costs for the meeting – other than meals and hotel rooms – will be covered by the SC Action Coalition through the support of our RWJF State Implementation Program grant and the generous matching funds from our SIP grant donors. If you are interested in joining this exceptional group, please email the SC Center for Nursing Leadership for registration information: Nurslead@mailbox.sc.edu
