Long Beach observes National Day of Prayer with vibrant celebration
Puerto Rico: Ranked 17th in the world, the team played very well in two World League matches held in Long Beach last year and finished tied for 13th at the 2010 world championships. When it qualified for the 2006 worlds, it was Puerto Rico's first trip in two decades, and in 2007 it finished sixth at the FIVB World Cup and won its first-ever medal at the NORCECA event. Hector Soto and Jose Rivera are the top players on a team not to be overlooked. Canada: The Canadians tied for 19th at the 2010 World Championships and have a veteran team built around Gavin Schmidt and Steve Brinkman that believes it's on the verge. The Canadians last played in the Olympics in 1992. Dominican Republic: A great country for baseball players, the Dominicans have the lowest world ranking (46) of the eight teams.

Costa Rica: Ranked 43rd in the world, its program is considered one that is slowly emerging as a future contender regionally. After pool play, which runs Monday to Wednesday, the top team in each pool will be given a bye into Friday's semifinals.
