Allyson, July 8, 1995 Daughters................................................................................................Emma and Anna Sandy Sandago is in his fourth year at the helm of the Sports Medicine Department at USC Upstate. He was promoted from Assistant Athletic Director to Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine in 2007. He is the fifth full-time head athletic trainer at the University and the first to assume the duties as Associate AD for Sports Medicine. Sandago came to USC Upstate after working on the athletic training staff at Oregon State for 22 years. He joined the staff in 1984 and was promoted to head athletic trainer in 1992. He oversaw the athletic training services for all sports and directly handled the athletic training responsibilities for men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf. While in Oregon, Sandago began a close relationship with Nike research and development, a relationship that has continued in his current position at Upstate. He coordinates testing of new Nike footwear technology, utilizing various teams to gather input and analysis during practices through-

out the year. He reports back to Nike R&D on the durability, wear and comfort of the products the company plans to release into the marketplace in the future. Prior to his 22-year stint at Oregon State, he was a teacher and athletic trainer at Maumee High School in Ohio. He also served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Seattle Seahawks during summer workouts from 1980-86. Sandago graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Washington State University in 1979 and received his master’s degree in health education from the Miami University in 1983. The Seattle, Wash., native graduated from Lynwood High School, where he lettered in three sports while serving as a student athletic trainer. Sandago and his wife, Allyson, have two daughters, Emma and Anna. Allyson is also a certified athletic trainer and works with the Orthopaedic Research Foundation of the Carolinas.

Basketball Team Managers Darrell Bynoe Darrell Bynoe, a freshman from Columbia, S.C., is in his first season as team manager for the Upstate men’s basketball team. He is a business administration major. Bynoe lettered four times in basketball at Dreher High School. He was an all-state and all-conference selection as a combination guard for the Blue Devils. He helped lead Dreher to an appearance in the 3A state tournament as a junior. He was named the team’s Rookie of the Year as a freshman. He was born on July 1, 1990 in Columbia and is the son of Raymond and Terri Bynoe.

Justin Houser Justin Houser, a senior from Shawnee Mission, Kan., returns to the Upstate men’s basketball program after wrapping up his collegiate playing career at Baker University in 2008-09. He is in his first season as a team manager for the Spartans while finishing the requirements for his bachelor’s degree. Houser was a member of the first Division I men’s basketball team at Upstate in 2007-08. A key role player on the team, he saw action in 15 games and averaged two points and two rebounds per game. He ranked second on the team in scoring while averaging 12.1 points per game to go along with 6.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per outing for Baker University during his senior season. He began his college playing career at Cowley County CC before transferring to Cloud County CC as a sophomore. He helped lead the team to a semifinal appearance in the Region 6 Tournament and a 23-10 overall record. He was a four-year letterman in basketball, soccer and track at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. He averaged 9.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a senior and was named Most Improved Player on the team. He was born on May 24, 1987 in Shawnee, Kan., and is the son of Chris and Jeanette Houser.
