Athletics Administration Louise Ericson

Associate Athletic Director for Academic Support Services/SWA Louise Ericson is beginning her second year as Upstate’s Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Support Services and Senior Woman’s Administrator. Previously, Ericson spent three years as the athletic academic coordinator while also serving as the director for the Center of Student Success. Ericson also serves as sports supervisor for the cross country, women’s soccer, softball and track & field programs. Ericson has built a successful 13-year career in academic support and coaching at both the Division I and II levels. Prior to coming to USC Upstate, she served as an athletic academic counselor at Vanderbilt University from 2002-03. She was an athletic academic advisor and life skills coordinator at UNC Charlotte from 2000-02. Ericson is no stranger to Spartanburg, serving as the NCAA compliance coordinator and assistant volleyball and basketball coach at Converse College from 1997-2000. She got her start in academic support while attending graduate school at the University of Tennessee. She served as a grad assistant in the women’s athletic department-academic advising and student life from 1995-97. Ericson is active in many professional organizations, including the the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics. Ericson graduated with honors from Belmont University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1994. While at Belmont, she played basketball from 1991-92 and volleyball from 1993-94, serving as team captain. She received her master’s degree in sport administration from Tennessee in 1997 with a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Scott Larson

Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Scott Larson is in his fourth year as Upstate’s first full-time compliance director at USC Upstate, coming onboard as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. He was promoted to Associate AD for Compliance in

August 2007. Larson serves as the sports supervisor for the tennis, volleyball, baseball and men’s soccer programs. Larson has more than 10 years of compliance experience at the Division I level. Throughout his professional career, Larson has developed and implemented several programs to improve the compliance operations at the institutions where he has worked. Larson came to USC Upstate from the University of Texas at El Paso where he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Aid from 2005-06. He oversaw all aspects of the compliance program. In addition, he had oversight responsibilities for the women’s tennis and rifle programs. Prior to his stint at UTEP, he served as Assistant AD for Compliance at Northern Arizona University from 2004-05 and was the Assistant AD for Compliance at Gardner-Webb University from 2003-04. He served as the Compliance Monitoring Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin from 2001-03. Larson worked as a graduate assistant in compliance at Arizona State University from 1998-01. He began working towards his professional career as an undergraduate intern in the compliance office at the University of Tulsa from 1997-98. Larson graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tulsa with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in sports administration in 1998. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University in 2001. Larson is a native of Topeka, Kan. He and his wife, Marla, have been married since 2002 and have two boys, Cade, 4, and Reid, 1.

to head athletic trainer in 1992. He oversaw the athletic training services for all sports and directly handled the athletic training responsibilities for men’s basketball and men’s and women’s golf. Prior to his 22-year stint at Oregon State, he was a teacher and athletic trainer at Maumee High School in Ohio. He also served as an assistant athletic trainer for the Seattle Seahawks during summer workouts from 1980-86. Sandago graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Washington State University in 1979 and received his master’s degree in health education from the University of Miami (OH) in 1983. The Seattle, Wash., native graduated from Lynwood High School, where he lettered in three sports while serving as a student athletic trainer. Sandago and his wife, Allyson, have two daughters, Emma and Anna. Allyson is also a certified athletic trainer.

Jules Bryant

Assistant Athletic Director for Development Jules Bryant is in her third year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Development and Special Events at USC Upstate. Bryant is no stranger to the Spartanburg community. She spent the seven years as the Executive Director of the Spartanburg Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. She coordinated a myriad of projects and responsibilities, including the marketing efforts of the organization. She also helped recruit corporate partnerships to help assist in the cost of running various events sponsored by the Bureau. As part of her duties as Executive Director of the CVB, she also oversaw Team Spartanburg, the sports council of the CVB. Team Spartanburg was active in several sport-related community events, including working with the Carolina Panthers’ Training Camp, the Eye Opener Cross Country Meet, and the Goalball Championships. Prior to her stint with the Spartanburg CVB, Bryant spent two years as the membership manager with the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce (19982000). She was a branch manager at the Spartanburg office of Staffing Solutions from 1997-98, was the community director for the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation from 1996-97, and was an admissions counselor at Wofford College from 1993-96.

Michael Sandago

Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Michael Sandago is in his fourth year at the helm of the Sports Medicine Department at USC Upstate. He was promoted from Assistant Athletic Director to Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine in 2007. He is the fifth full-time head athletic trainer at the University and the first to assume the duties as Associate AD for Sports Medicine. Sandago came to USC Upstate after working on the athletic training staff at Oregon State for 22 years. He joined the staff in 1984 and was promoted
