THE MUSIC HOTEL IN ROME! From the first step into the reception area, you know this place is different: The check–in desk is a big drum - and a real one at that! The next thing that strikes you are the thousands of CD’s waiting for you to select and take up to your room, from Jazz to Reggae, classical to pop. Your keychain is a little electric guitar, that you place into the slot to turn on the lights… and did we mention lights? The bathroom has a mirror disco ball that rotates which John Travolta would have appreciated. There is also the option of ordinary lights for those that need to apply makeup.

The staff are young and friendly , something often lacking in big tourist cities like Rome. They are always there to go the extra mile and seem to really love their jobs. The location is fine, on a leafy little street not far from the Vatican, just a 10 min walk from the metro station. Not surprisingly, the clientele are young too, and many musicians crash here where they can get their groove. “Franklin, keep marching to a different drummer….!”

The bangin’ stereo system is B&O (of course), as well as the high tech telephone. You even have a speaker in the bathroom so you can sing in the shower accompanied by your favourite tunes. The toiletries are different too: eco-friendly LUSH, offering an interesting selection of decidedly different creams and soaps. Another kooky touch is the emergency pull tab in the shower that has a couple of lollipops hanging from it. Your nightstands are snare drums that really work… try playing along to your tunes. Some of the rooms have their own terrace facing the garden, ooooh so peaceful! If you have good weather, run, do not walk -- to the garden to have a relaxing breakfast surrounded by plants and flowers. The inside breakfast room is a bit small but you can find everything from ham and cheese, to muesli and yogurts ( the good ones… from Alto Adige) and the staff will even cook you an egg to your specs. You can make your own freshly squeezed juices with the electric juicer; for the health conscious there is even a centrifuge for a DIY veggie drink.
