What are Chikungunya and Dengue Fever, and why do they matter? Chikungunya and Dengue Fever are viral diseases transmitted to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. Currently, there are no vaccines available for either disease. This fact, along with the aggresiveness of the mosquito has led to a large growth in the number of cases of each. Dengue Fever affects hundreds of thousands of people a year, and since Chikungunya first appeared around December of 2013, experts suspect that over half a million cases have occurred in the Caribbean. Symptoms of Dengue Fever and Chikungunya are very similar, including a sudden high fever, severe joint pains, muscle pain and headache. These symptoms result in hardships for individuals and families through medical costs and missed days of work. The U.S. Center for Disease Control is now offering warnings on travel to areas affected by the diseases, resulting in a growing fear among travelers and a decrease in online inquiries for Caribbean vacations. This potential drop-off in tourism could negatively impact local economies.
What to do about it? Prevention and control efforts focus on reducing the number of vectors (mosquitoes) and minimizing the natural or artificial habitats that support their breeding. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is urging countries that have the diseasetransmitting Aedes mosquitoes to step up their vector-control efforts. ULV Foggers
London Fog M. A. G. (Medium Area Generator), a ULV fogger, is the ideal fogger to control insects and mosquitoes in a mediumsized indoor or outdoor area. This compact, lightweight model is ideal for small communities with a limited budget. The M.A.G. all-metal nozzle creates 80% of particles that are less than 20 microns in diameter. A high-velocity turbulent air blast disperses the aerosol throughout the target area. The flow rate can be adjusted for various liquids or applications by installing discs with different orifice sizes (4 sizes included). Application can be made with either oil or water based products. The M.A.G. is constructed with a lightweight aluminum frame. It is welded for strength and powder coated for longevity. For outdoor applications, this lightweight model can easily be mounted on vehicles, trailers, golf carts or ATV’s. For indoor applications, an optional wheel kit is available.
