Adventure Therapy Bachelor of Science__________________________________________ Program Sheet Outdoor Adventure Education is increasingly used by programs that promote interpersonal, social and psychological wellness and change. The Bachelor of Science degree in Adventure Therapy is designed to provide students wishing to obtain employment which such programs, the expertise, dispositions and experience to do so. The program has the dual focus of developing adventure education skills and leadership on the one hand and psychology and counseling theory and practice on the other. I. The Unity Environmental Stewardship Curriculum. II. Adventure Therapy Requirements: Students enrolled in the AT major will be required to complete an immersive experience component as part of their degree requirements in addition to a list of required courses for the major. There are two options in which this immersive component can be satisfied. Option 1: Students can complete the immersive experience entirely through Unity College by completing the following courses: AE 2885 Expeditionary Skills (offered only in May session) OS 1061 Map and Compass PY 2113 Group Process Complete a minimum of 3 credits from the following: AE 1012 Rockclimbing AE 1022 Intermediate Rockclimbing AE 1051 Sea Kayaking AE 1042 Beginning Cross Country Skiing AE 2062 Whitewater Canoeing AE 2132 Winter Mountaineering Option II: Students can participate in a pre-approved immersive experience through Outward Bound or the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS). This experience must be a minimum of 50 days and a minimum of 12 undergraduate credits. Pre-approval must be granted by the Experiential Programs Coordinator before the student participates in the program. The remaining courses will be required of all students regardless of the option chosen for the immersive experience: AE 2003 Outdoor Adventure Education AE 2184 Introduction to Challenge Courses AE 3204 Leadership AE 3233 Adventure Therapy Programs AE 4223 Counseling Theories for Wilderness Programming AE 4403 Theoretical Perspectives OS 2023 Wilderness First Responder PY 2013 Human Development PY 3133 Abnormal Psychology AE 3993 Internship: Adventure Therapy (3 credits minimum at or above the 3000 level) EITHER OR

AE 2043 Universal Programming ED 3333 Education for Exceptional Child and Youth

EITHER OR

PY 1003 Introduction to Psychology for Teaching PY 1013 Introduction to Psychology

III. The general degree requirements for graduation must be fulfilled.
