for both our sons to help them start building their credit.” said Heidi. Unison also understands that change can be hard. However, with the ease and convenience of Unison’s online banking options paired with the great support from Unison staff, Kurt is making his loan payments online and hopes to be “fully online in the near future.”

The Fredericksons: Heidi, Jeremia, Zach, Cynthia and Kurt.

Kurt and Heidi Fredrickson have been loyal Unison members for over 20 years. From the time they were newlyweds, to starting their family; to now, as they send their children off to college, the Fredrickson’s always knew they could count on Unison to be there for them.

Unison is really a great place to bank. Through every stage of our life, Unison has had a solution for us!” said Kurt. Heidi is proud that Unison supports the non-profit organization that she founded, the Community Benefit Tree. “We at the Community Benefit Tree work hard to help families in medical crisis and Unison helps us with frequent donations.” says Heidi. Just another example of Unison helping others in our community and providing for its members.

We are excited to announce our 2015 Unison Credit Union John Aman Memorial Scholarship recipients! This year, Unison is proud to present four $1,000 scholarships. The awards are given in memory of John Aman, the first CEO of Unison Credit Union. His commitment to the credit union industry and community were evident through his passion for volunteerism and putting the needs of our members first. Winners were selected based on their ability to demonstrate the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” through volunteerism and giving back to their communities. The following students are recipients of Unison Credit Union’s 2015 John Aman Memorial Scholarships: Emma Knick, a Kaukauna High School graduate, has logged many hours of service through her work with the Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, St. Kathrine Drexel Parish and the YMCA. Emma will attend

UW-Stevens Point in fall to study Music Education. Taylor Falck, a Wrightstown High School graduate, has given back to her community through volunteering through 4-H, Toys for Tots, Wrightstown High School Tiger Camps, Dave Barta’s Benefit and the Public Library. In fall, Taylor is going to UW-La Crosse to study either Physical Therapy or Radiation Therapy. Leah Bowers, a Freedom High School graduate, has dedicated herself to giving back to her community by working with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity and Catholic Heart Work Camp Mission Trips. Leah will attend UW-Stevens Point this fall to study Human Biology.

Manage

their Money! How are your kids earning money this summer? Babysitting? Dog walking? Lawn mowing? If they are lucky enough to be making some cold cash this summer, they may or may not realize that no matter how much (or how little) they earn, they’ll need a plan to manage their money.

Taylor Falck

Believe it or not, managing money can be fun! With exciting tools like the Mint Cash Calculator at themint.org kids can plan a way to budget their cash based on four buckets: Save. Spend. Invest. Give. Take some time to experiment! Work together to decide how much money to put into each category. Your child’s plan will depend on what their goals are today and for the future. They’ll see how quickly a little bit each week can add up over time! From Plan to Action. Once they have a plan, it’s time to put it into action! They’ll need four containers – one for each category. These can be as fancy or simple as you want. We like mason jars or tin cans that you can decorate and personalize. Label each container with SAVE, SPEND, INVEST and GIVE. Each allowance pay day, put the amount of cash in each jar that matches their plan. It’s as easy as that!

In Old English pygg was a type of clay that was used to make jars and dishes that held money. The word eventually morphed into “piggy bank.”
