InUnison fall 2013
Unison Credit Union's quarterly newsletter
InUnison Published quarterly for the members of Unison Credit Union. Fall 2013 | No. 156 We start with you, we stay with you! People helping people, that’s what we’re all about. Ha ppy In 1994, Jeff came to Unison as a teen in search of a financial institution to help him purchase a used vehicle. He was pleased to find that we were happy to help him with a loan that would also build his credit score. Later, in 1998 he came back to Unison for a mortgage on his first home. Since then, his family has outgrown that first home, as well as a second home (also mortgaged by Unison). Recently, the Huettl family closed on the purchase of their dream home. Holi da y s! Thursday, November 28 Closed Tuesday, December 24 Closed at noon Wednesday, December 25 Closed Wednesday, January 1 Closed The closing on the mortgage was anything but typical. They worked with one of Unison’s Financial Services Representatives Kathy [Vander Wielen] at the Kaukauna South Branch. “Kathy helped our family immensely. ▲ Holiday Hours 2014 Calendars Complimentary 2014 calendars will be available to members beginning the day after Thanksgiving. Stop in at any of our locations to pick up your calendar. She painstakingly worked with us to ensure our dream of new home ownership.” Due to an obstacle presented from another financial, the closing needed to be rescheduled 4 times and the Huettl family nearly lost the home. Kathy and the Unison management team were able to make special accommodations to ensure the closing. When it was all said and done, the Huettl’s were able to meet the deadline to solidify the sale and prepare for their move. Jeff remembers the stressful situation. “I truly can’t even begin to explain the emotions that were going on that day with all parties involved. We witnessed two completely different spectrums of financial institutions. One seeming to not realize the importance of our situation, the other (Unison) going well beyond what they needed to do in order to allow our dream to take place. Not only does Unison Credit Union exemplify the way members should be treated, we feel like they treat us like family. We can’t thank them enough for all they have done.” Unison feels privileged to have the Huettl family as members of our Unison family. Thank you, Huettl’s, for choosing Unison! ▲ From his first car to the purchase of his third home, Unison Credit Union has been there for Jeff Huettl and his family. Over the years, Jeff recalls “Every encounter with the entire Unison Credit Union staff has been an extremely pleasurable experience and they have consistently exceeded our expectations.” Money Envelopes Money envelopes are available the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas. He won by signing up to receive InUnison electronically, Smart Holiday Shopping T Planning and Contro You say it every year after the holidays: “Next year I’m going to spend less money.” It’s easy to get carried away. It can be just as easy to stay financially fit, even during the busiest shopping season of the year. The Credit Union National Association, the trade association for credit unions, and the Consumer Federation of America, Washington, D.C., suggest these holiday spending tips: 1. Budget your spending and set goals: Start with a realistic idea of how much you can spend on holiday gifts, food, travel, and so on. Add it up and really give serious thought to what you can afford. Think about where you might cut back and stick to your budget. 2. Make a list: Shop from a list to avoid impulse purchases that could leave you snowed under in debt at the end of the season. 3. Comparison shop: Take the time to find the best deal. Fight the urge to get your shopping over with as quickly as possible, and, for the procrastinator: Don’t wait until the last minute! 4. Trim your interest payments: If you must pay with a credit card instead of using cash, use a card with a low-interest rate, like Unison’s Visa® Platinum or Visa® Platinum with Rewards card. 5. Save, Save, Save: Open a Christmas Savings account at Unison and save for the holidays throughout the year. Dividends are compounded and credited to your account monthly at the same rate as a Share Savings account, with no minimum required. Make deposits of any amount at any time or set up automatic transfers to the account each month for hasslefree contributions. The balance of your account, plus dividends, is available for withdrawal whenever you decide to do your holiday shopping. 6. Uh oh, I went over my budget: Just in case Rudolph runs away with your Christmas budget and your spending gets a little too jolly, we are here for you! Unison can help you consolidate your debt with a low interest unsecured loan. Sign up to make biweekly payments and pay your debt off even sooner! The bottom line is, treat your Christmas spending as you would any other expense you have by putting money aside for it on a monthly basis. Have a budget and stick to it.
