localizadas em cidades que têm como primordial actividade a função universitária, se designe por Coimbra Group, tal como o grupo das cerca de cinquenta das mais importantes universidades brasileiras se nomeie Grupo de Coimbra das Universidade Brasileiras, fazendo deste modo a ligação e sublinhando o carácter matricial da instituição coimbrã. Todavia, é no aspecto material que o Bem candidato sofre maiores pressões no que diz respeito aos efeitos negativos decorrentes do desenvolvimento e da falta de manutenção. Apesar da grande maioria dos edifícios das áreas candidatas se encontrarem, globalmente, em bom estado de conservação e sem dissonâncias significativas, importa colocar em marcha, ainda que a diferentes velocidades em função das oportunidades físicas e financeiras, as estratégias definidas nos respectivos Planos Directores, de forma a manter a integridade do conjunto, considerando desta forma controlado o processo de deterioração. Neste sentido, a classificação de Património Mundial da UNESCO funcionará, simultaneamente, como impulsionadora de conservação, correcção e de clarificação do Bem e da adesão afectiva das várias comunidades, levando ao envolvimento dos órgãos de gestão (locais e estatais), dos agentes responsáveis, dos utilizadores e dos visitantes.

University of Coimbra — Alta and Sofia continues to perform its role as promoter of ideas and shapes, remaining as one of the most important national institutions in the education of foreign students, particularly in the lusophone world. In this sense, it is not by disregard or even by chance that the group of European universities, located in cities that have as primordial activity the university, has the name Coimbra Group, as happens with the group of over fifty of the most important Brazilian universities, that is named Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities, establishing, as such, the connection and underlining the foundational role of the University of Coimbra. Nevertheless, it is in the material field that the applicant Property suffers more pression, as far as the negative aspects that result from development and lack of maintenance are concerned. Notwithstanding the fact that the majority of the buildings of the applicant areas are, globally, in good conservation conditions, and with no significant dissonances, it is important to set course, although at different velocities, according to the physical and financial opportunities, of the strategies defined in the Master Plans, so to keep the integrity of the set, and to control its deterioration. In this sense, the classification of World Heritage of UNESCO will simultaneously work as stimulating the conservation, the correction and the clarification of the Property and the affective connection
