Dear Seahawk Fans, Thank you for being a part of another exciting volleyball season at UNCW! The University of North Carolina Wilmington is very proud of the student-athletes on this team, who compete athletically the same way they do academically: with tremendous heart, drive and courage. I hope their commitment to excellence will be rewarded with your ongoing support for their team and athletics at UNCW. The Seahawks’ dedication to their sports and their studies is matched only by their determination to succeed as citizens of the world. Led by UNCW’s coaches and athletics staff, our student-athletes contribute to Southeastern North Carolina as volunteers for numerous organizations, mentors for younger students at area schools, and role models of active, healthy lifestyles. Just as our student-athletes do everything they can to support this community they love so much, they require your support to continue on their journey of learning and within their athletic endeavors. I encourage you to show the Seahawks that you’re behind them by attending home games, supporting scholarships for student-athletes, joining the Seahawk Club and sharing your UNCW pride on social media. Best wishes to the volleyball team and Coach Amy Bambenek for a terri¿c year. Go Seahawks!

Jimmy Bass Athletic Director The UNCW athletic department continues to make tremendous strides under the leadership of Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass. Since taking over the helm of the program in October of 2010, the Seahawks have won more Colonial Athletic Association championships than any other conference member over the last three years. Overall, UNCW has captured 11 CAA titles, including three crowns in 2012-13. Bass introduced a comprehensive strategic plan upon his arrival and the Seahawks embraced it with great success, excelling in the athletic arena and also in the classroom. With a recognized expertise in marketing and fund raising, the North Carolina native restructured the department’s fund raising arm and orchestrated a $2 million renovation to venerable Trask Coliseum. The Seahawks also reached a sponsorship consulting partnership with IMG Worldwide. Before accepting the UNCW post, Bass spent three years in external operations at East Carolina after holding similar positions at Mississippi State, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, UNCW and Davidson. He served as UINCW’s ¿rst full-time fundraiser in 1986, bolstering athletic scholarship efforts and increasing membership in the Seahawk Club three-fold during his ¿rst stay. A member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the National Association of Athletic Development Directors, Bass is beginning his second year as president of the Colonial Athletic Association. He is married to the former Sarah Ruark and the couple has a son, Corey.
