After one season serving on the staff as the second assistant, Zach Haines enters the 2013 season as the top assistant on Coach Heaney’s staff.
Lee Williams joins the UNCW staff following a fouryear career at Appalachian State that saw him earn All-Southern Conference honors on three occasions, including first-team honors in 2012.

“Zach made an impact on our staff in his first season and we’re looking forward to him moving into the top assistant position on our staff,” said Heaney. “He is a young, energetic coach who will be a big help to the program, both on and off the field. I know our players will benefit from his experiences and he will learn a lot about the college game as he pursues his career in college coaching.” Haines came to the Seahawks from the Triangle Futbol Club, where he served as the Assistant Director of Youth Development. While with TFC, Haines coached the TFC U20 men’s team to consecutive USL South Atlantic Division titles in 2010 and 2011 and a national championship final four appearance.
Williams was also named to the Hermann Watch List in 2012 and helped lead the Mountaineers to an 8-7-4 overall record while allowing a SoCon-low 19 goals on the season, ranking 50th nationally with a 0.95 goals against average. A native of Liverpool, England, Williams played and started in all 64 games for ASU, playing every minute. During his time at Appalachian State, he worked with High Country Soccer as a volunteer coach before he joined Lees-McRae in the spring of 2013 as an assistant coach of the men’s soccer team.
Prior to working with TFC, Haines was the head coach at East Chapel Hill High School for two seasons. During that tenure, he guided the program to a 30-10-3 record at the 4A level and was ranked 13th in the state in 2010. Haines played at UNC before injuries shortened his career in 2006. But he returned in 2009 as a volunteer where he audited training sessions and worked with game day operations. Haines graduated from North Carolina with a degree in Management and Society. He also holds NSCAA National and Advanced National diplomas. “I am very excited and motivated to continue serving the UNCW soccer program. It is an honor to work alongside Coach Heaney. I know that we will always do our best to represent this great university in a manner that everyone involved can be proud.”
